Re: Obama e la guerra globale - dall'America

Dear President Obama,

Do you really want to be the new "war president"? If you go to West Point tomorrow night (Tuesday, 8pm) and announce that you are increasing, rather than withdrawing, the troops in Afghanistan, you are the new war president. Pure and simple. And with that you will do the worst possible thing you could do -- destroy the hopes and dreams so many millions have placed in you. With just one speech tomorrow night you will turn a multitude of young people who were the backbone of your campaign into disillusioned cynics. You will teach them what they've always heard is true -- that all politicians are alike. I simply can't believe you're about to do what they say you are going to do. Please say it isn't so.

In pratica diceva che Obama sarebbe diventato come Bush, che si autodefinva il war president, se avesse aumentato i contingenti in Afghanistan, e Obama l'ha fatto, il giorno dopo. Moore esprime anche la sua delusione per le sue speranze tradite. Ma su questo non posso dargli ragione. Un anno e mezzo fa, Obama a Berlino, accolto come una rockstar, ha fatto un discorso che era una chiamata alle armi all'Europa, USA e Europa insieme nella guerra al terrorismo, niente più unilateralismo americano ma multilateralismo, che voleva dire che l'Europa doveva fare più sforzi nelle guerre americane. Quindi, le speranze di Moore secondo me erano infondate fin da prima dell'elezione di Obama.

Sempre sul suo blog trovo un pezzo del Los Angeles Times, questo:

Upon re-entering the Kailua neighborhood where the president is staying around 10:30 a.m., the motorcade passed a small crowd of supporters and protesters. Some included disaffected Democrats in Hawaii, who planned a small protest in Kailua this morning to protest some of the president's policies from his first year in office. They're upset about Obama's decision to send more troops to Afghanistan, as well as the lack of a public option in the health care bill.

Obama defended his decision to send more troops to Afghanistan in his weekly radio address this morning, saying that "our nation is at war against a far-reaching network of violence and hatred," continuing that "we will do whatever it takes to defeat them and defend our country, even as we uphold the values that have always distinguished America among nations."

In cui si nota che degli americani iniziano a protestare contro Obama, delusi: la riforma sanitaria con l'esclusione dell'opzione pubblica e la guerra.

Particolarmente preoccupante è però l'ultima frase di Obama, di cui mi sfugge la parte finale, chi sa tradurre meglio?

LA NOSTRA NAZIONE E' IN GUERRA CONTRO UNA VASTA RETE DI VIOLENZA E ODIO E NOI FAREMO QUALUNQUE COSA SIA NECESSARIA PER SCONFIGGERLA E PER DIFENDERE IL NOSTRO PAESE,
