Militant groups control 60 percent of Fallujah: witnesses
Xinhuanet
Militant groups in battle-torn Fallujah have controlled 60 percent of the
central Iraqi city and surrounded dozens of US Marines in Jolan
district, witnesses said Sunday. "Defenders of the city are controlling 60
percent of the city and they are encircling dozens of US soldiers in Jolan
neighborhood," eyewitnesses who managed to sneak out of the city told
Xinhua. Residents of Fallujah said the southern part of Fallujah, whichis
still under contr! ol of the militant groups, constitutes the larger part

Falluja troops told to shoot on sight
Aljazeera.net
On the eve of the assault on Falluja, the US military ordered troops to
shoot any male on the street between the ages of 15 and 50 if they were
seen as a security threat, regardless of whether they had a weapon. "You
are killers, not murderers. You are warriors not war criminals. Don't cross
that line." Those were the words of a US officer to his men before they
took part in the recent assault on the Iraqi city of Falluja...

Higinio Polo, www.resistenze.org - popoli resistenti
all’opinione pubblico mondiale e davanti agli organismi internazionali la

Falluja women, children in mass grave
Aljazeera.net
Residents of neighbouring Saqlawiya village have told Aljazeera that they
helped bury the bodies of 73 women and children who were burned beyond
recognition. "We buried them here, but we could not identify them because
they were charred by the use of napalm bombs used by the Americans," said
one Saqlawiya resident in footage aired on Sunday (...) The resident, who
helped in the burial, told Aljazeera all of the bodies were buried in one
mass grave...

Why pre-emptive invasions encourage soldiers to commit war crimes
Trevor Royle, Sunday Herald
...However, if US and British soldiers are engaged in a war – Blair claims
that it is now in its second phase – then rules must apply. So far, the US
has shown little inclination to pay heed to the Geneva Conventions, witness
the treatment of prisoners at Guantanamo Bay and Abu Ghraib and the
impending appointment of Albert Gonzales as attorney-general. This is the
lawyer who advised the Bush administration that the Gene! va Conventions
were irrelevant because the war against terrorism “renders quaint some of
its provisions”. Small wonder that US defence secretary Donald Rumsfeld
nodded in agreement because it gave his soldiers carte blanche to act as
they saw fit and not as they should...

Silence surrounds fates of contractors in Iraq. Some companies won't say
exactly how, or how many, workers have died
DAVID IVANOVICH, Houston Chronicle
Halliburton Co. truck drivers Tim Bell and Bill Bradley disappeared April 9
when their convoy was attacked west of Baghdad. Did they die at the scene?
Were they captured? Is there reason for hope? No one will say. Like those
of many contractors caught in the violence of Iraq, their fates are
shrouded in mystery. The Army has conducted an investigation into the amb!
ush, but the report is classified. Pentagon officials refused to discuss
its contents, directing questions to Halliburton. The company referred
questions back to the Pentagon...

Iraq = Vietnam. Misinterpreting the Metaphor
William Bowles
...It is less important that the US actually 'win' a military victory in
Iraq than it is in preventing a unified Arab opposition to the US/Israeli
alliance from emerging. As with Yugoslavia, the objective is the
Balkanisation of the Arab world. This explains why the US deliberately
encouraged and participated in the destruction of Iraqi civil society, for
the objective (in line with Israeli policy) is a fragmented and powerless
collection of Arab 'state! lets' (with the exception of Egypt and Jordan
who, it is planned, will be the West's 'policemen' for the region) unable
to resist US/ Israeli designs. It follows therefore that the next target
will be Syria/Lebanon followed by Iran once the Arab world has been
dismembered and emasculated. Well that's the plan...

Iraqi Resistance Report for events of Saturday, 20 September 2004
Translated and/or compiled by Muhammad Abu Nasr, member editorial board The
Free Arab Voice.
...The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent in al-Fallujah reported Saturday
that the operation to collect and bury the bodies of victims killed by the
US assault on al-Fallujah is still under way. The number of bodies buried
as of yesterday, Friday, was 103, among them were a number of women and
children. The correspondent wrote in a dispatch posted Satu! rday at 8:25pm
Mecca time, that the last batch of victims’ bodies consisted of 20 corpses,
none of which showed signs of being struck by any sort of weapon or
ammunition. Their clothing was also not torn or burned. The bodies,
however, were blackened due to the Americans’ use of some internationally
banned chemical weapons with which they bombarded the city.

For One Family in Falluja, a Simple Drive Turns Deadly
EDWARD WONG, New York Times
The drive was supposed to take no more than 15 minutes, a quick dash across
a few rubble-strewn blocks of Falluja to spirit Sahar Muhammad Abdullah,
23, and her family to safety in a house near a mosque. But hundreds of feet
short of their destination, the family stumbled into a company of marines
who had transformed the mosque into a temporary fortress, with snipers and
machine gunners perched on the roof. They spotted the gray ca! r carrying
the family, inching along. A barrage of bullets followed. Minutes later,
Ms. Abdullah's mother lay bloodied and dying in the rear seat, glass shards
strewn about her...

US troops seal Iraq's Ramadi, seek insurgents
Reuters
US troops blocked roads into Ramadi today and urged residents through
loudspeakers in the south of the Iraqi city to stay in their homes and hand
over ''terrorists'', local witnesses said. They said US forces were not
allowing anyone to enter or leave Ramadi, 110 km west of Baghdad, and were
searching buildings in southern neighbourhoods while helicopters circled

Children Pay Cost of Iraq's Chaos
Malnutrition Nearly Double What It Was Before Invasion
Karl Vick, Washington Post Foreign Service
Acute malnutrition among young children in Iraq has nearly doubled since
the United States led an invasion of the country 20 months ago, according
to surveys by the United Nations, aid agencies and the interim Iraqi
government (...) "Things have been worse for me since the war," said Kasim
Said, a day laborer who was at Baghdad's main children's hospital to visit
his ailing year-o! ld son, Abdullah. The child, lying on a pillow with a
Winnie the Pooh washcloth to keep the flies off his head, weighs just 11
pounds. "During the previous regime, I used to work on the government
projects. Now there are no projects," his father said...

A Letter and an Appeal from Fallujah to Al-Moharer
Al-Moharer
...I am writing you this letter with immense suffering in my heart. I am
really sorry but I don't know what happened to the Arab humanity and
conscience. I have not come across a man like you with the honorable
positions you espouse alongside the few who didn't forget their Arab
nation. For those who use this as a way to make millions, we say, ‘we have
no God but the One God‘. History will be merciless with the deserters, and
I beg you to get in touch ! with all of those who used to meet with us in
conferences. Where are they?...

Ibrahim Ebeid, Al-Moharer

every Iraqi because the entire country became Fallujah. Fallujah led Iraq
in its war of liberation in the nineties and it will lead today. It is the
spearhead of liberation...

Patrick Cockburn, Nuovi Mondi Media
