Interim Iraqi Prime Minister Iyad Allawi's speech before the US Congress
has been received with scorn and ridicule by regional analysts and
Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry. The first Iraqi to address
the US Congress, Allawi on Thursday said "we are succeeding in Iraq", and
thanked members of the congress for "your brave vote in 2002 to authorize
American men and women to go to war to liberate my country, because you
realized ! what was at stake"...

Rumsfeld Suggests Limited Iraq Election

some areas of Iraq might be excluded from elections scheduled for January
if security could not be guaranteed. "If there were to be an area where the
extremists focused during the election period, and an election was not

desert. In the recent Iraq War, the Pentagon used its radioactive arsenal
in suburban areas. According to Pentagon and UN statistics, the US used
between 1100 and 2200 tons of shells containing DU during March and April
2003. Parts of spent DU shells and DU-contaminated debris can be found
today strewn on the streets of Iraq’s urban areas. Contaminated sites have
been identified, but many of them have yet to be! cleaned up. This has
created a potential health hazard for many Iraqis...

pre-emptive war decision by President Bush that Saddam Hussein had no
weapons of mass destruction, that he had in fact destroyed what he had in
1991 and did not reconstitute them, and that he had not operational ties to
Al Qaeda. You were snookered by the Perle C! abal at the time and came to
believe that the war was justified, and now must admit you were wrong.
Don't make the same mistake a second time. Before you proceed, please ask a
lot more questions than you have so far. In fact, give Dr. Prather a call
if you are really serious about getting to the bottom of things...

Italian hostages probably alive

Contrary to reports on the Internet, two Italian aid workers taken hostage
in Iraq are probably still alive. A spokesman for the influential
Association of Muslim Scholars (AMS) said on Thursday that Simona Pari and
Simona Torretta were being held by a group that has no relation to the
resistance. Speaking to journalists at the committee's headquarters in
Baghdad's Umm al-Qura mosque, spokesman Muthana al-Dhari explained why he
did not think the two women were dead "b! ecause the material gain from
holding them is big"...

Iraqi scientists detained despite lack of WMD

The US has detained for far too long Iraqi scientists arrested last year in
the belief that they would provide information about Saddam Hussein's WMD,
according to an Iraqi government source. Even when US investigators
concluded that no such weapons existed the scientists were not freed
because the Americans feared their release would be seen as a tacit
admission that Iraq had no WMD. This may explain why the US embassy in Iraq
is de! termined to detain Dr Rihab Taha, who once worked on biological
weapons, while the Iraqi justice ministry says it sees no good reason for
her continued detention.

At last! Kofi Annan finally got up the gumption to say it: the invasion of
Iraq was illegal and contravened the UN Charter. The anti-war camp has been
saying as much all along. So now that its concerns have been declared
legitimate, and by none other than the UN's head honcho, what happens next?
Will the US, Britain and Australia along with the "Coalition of the Coerced
and the Cowering" be rapped over the knuckles, censured, fined, suspended
from the UN, ! or be subjected to sanctions?

...US occupation forces deployed more than 70 tanks and other military
vehicles on and around Baghdad’s Hayfa Street as violent fighting broke out
in the area Wednesday morning. The battles were still under way when the
localMafkarat al-Islam correspondent filed his report posted at 12:45pm
local time (11:45am Mecca tim! e). Some 50 US snipers were also deployed on
rooftops surrounding Hayfa Street, shooting at any moving target. Since the
American snipers were perched atop the residences of local people, the
Iraqi Resistance was unable to open fire on the Americans with mortars or
other heavy weaponry lest the explosions bring the buildings down on the
Iraqi residents beneath.
