giorno seguente, mentre tutti i mezzi annunciavano l'alta partecipazione,
nessuna parte dell'Iraq (…). In questo momento non abbiamo a disposizione
alcuna percentuale, perché non c'è precisione. Stiamo aspettando i
risultati di tutto il paese"...

Risposta di A.N.S.W.E.R. Act Now to Stop War & End Racism al Messaggio di
Bush sullo Stato dell'Unione
A.N.S.W.E.R.
Traduzione di Curzio Bettio di Soccorso Popolare di Padova
...L'amministrazione Bush aveva sperato di invadere rapidamente l'Iraq e di
insediarvi un regime fantoccio. L'obiettivo era di distruggere il
precedente governo, inoltre assicurare i suoi interessi geo-strategici

The International Action Center
Abu Ghraib. Più di 100.000 Iracheni sono stati ammazzati. Fallujah, una
città storica, è stata distrutta. Queste elezioni avranno come unico

armata all'occupazione americana.
agli esultanti Bush, Blair, Berlusconi possiamo aggiungere l'esultante
Piero Fassino...

Ti ricordi Fallujah?
Michel Bôle-Richard, Le Monde _ Osservatiorio Iraq
"Come dopo

Arsenal of Hypocrisy
Randy Atkins
...It's now very clear that US aggression over the last 50 years is
economic and strategic conquest pure and simple, as Michel Chossudousky so
well put it. Sadly, the United States has, to my estimate, dropped over
100,000,000 tons of bombs on foreign lands over the last 50 years. What
will it take for these weapons systems to be completely dismantled and for
the world to come to its senses, a nuclear war, a serious accident? Who is
responsible for this ever increasing mess, th! e Military Industrial
Complex? Are the leaders of these countries or the world elitist who
control them responsible? I don't have the answers maybe all of the above,
but one thing is certain; at this rate man will pay the ultimate price
sooner than latter...

Iraqi Resistance Report for events of Monday, 7 February 2005
Translated and/or compiled by Muhammad Abu Nasr, member, editorial board,
the Free Arab Voice
In a dispatch posted at 5:20pm local time Monday evening, the correspondent
of Mafkarat al-Islam in ar-Ramadi reported that fierce fighting was raging
as he wrote his report between US forces backed by their puppet so-called
"Iraqi national guard" stooges on one side and the Iraqi Resistance on the
other. The battle was raging in the neighborhoods of at-Ta'! mim,
al-Mal`ab, al-Iskan, Jisr al-Warrar - areas to the east and west and in the
center of the city...

Proper Elections for a Proper Civil War?
Tom Friedman: Scribe for New Age Imperialism
MIKE WHITNEY
...Friedman's talent ensures that he will remain the unrivaled champion of
imperial doctrine for years to come. He's simply the best around. His
unctuous prose provides the rationale for warfare and a justification for
the criminal violence against the Iraqi people. What else would you expect
from the empire's foremost apologist? His columns form the ideological
headwaters of new-age imperialism; celebra! ting the ritual of armed
savagery to anyone who will lend an ear....

Bush Pays Halliburton For Services Never Rendered
Evelyn Pringle, Scoop Media
As of June 2004, the Government Accounting Office estimated that more than
$1 billion in taxpayer money had been wasted due to illegal overcharges by
contractors in Iraq, since the onset of the war. Furthermore, experts say
that once the total is calculated correctly, the losses could very well add
up to billions more. According to GAO Comptroller General, David Walker,
the $1 billion represents about 2% of the $60 billion spent in Ira! q
between March 2003 and June 2004. To no one's surprise I'm sure, Walker
listed Halliburton's overbilling for meals as the kind of typical
overcharging that is occurring...

Stan Goff: "We can win, and we will win"
Kiraz Janicke, Green Left
...A deep analysis of the current conjuncture, some of us have been
arguing, shows a decaying US imperium that is increasingly fragile and
increasingly dependent on the two remaining pillars of its power — monetary
hegemony and its immense and immensely expensive military. Part of that
military supremacy is real — the lethal high technology and capacity to
project it worldwide. But part of that is mystique, the belief shared even
by many on the le! ft that this military is invincible. Iraq is proving
that it is not. The United States is objectively losing the war in Iraq,
and it is caught in a terrible dilemma. It can not win militarily, but it
can not quit politically. So it is paying a price, economically and
politically...

A.N.S.W.E.R.'s response to Bush's State of the Union address
A.N.S.W.E.R.
...The Bush administration hoped to quickly invade Iraq and set up a puppet
regime. The goal was to destroy the previous government, further secure its
geo-strategic interests in the region, and weaken Iraq to a point that any
new government would be on its knees before Wall Street and the IMF. This
was the overarching goal of thirteen years of economic sanctions from
1990-2003 (...) The goal of the Bush administration was not to occupy Ira!
q with hundreds of thousands of troops forever. But the vast armed
resistance in Iraq has made the withdrawal of the occupation forces
impossible. The resistance, as a widespread urban guerrilla force, can only
exist with widespread popular support...

Confirming Our Worst Fears About Torture
James Rowe
I haven't been able to get out of my mind the description of U.S. Army
specialist Charles Graner as "primary torturer" that was used at Graner's
January court-martial by a former detainee and victim of brutality at the
Abu Ghraib prison (...) What I can't shake is that Graner was described as
the "primary" torturer, meaning there were others. We have to accept that
there were (are?) moderate torturers, minor torturers, plus enablers and
disguisers of torture - a! cting in our name, being paid out of the
billions being spent on the Iraq and Afghan wars and the ill-defined and
limitless War on Terror...

Oil companies impatient for 'new Iraq'
GNN - UPI
...The biggest prize? A possible $3 billion contract to build a new "super
refinery" producing gasoline and other oil products from up to 1 million
barrels per day of Iraq crude, said a senior U.S. Embassy official in
Baghdad, declining to be named. An announcement could come by the end of
the month; building a new refinery could take more than two years.
Companies such as Shell, Exxon and Chevron are offering all sorts of pot
sweeteners to get on a refinery short ! list, the official said...

Officers Fault US Command For 'Failure To Surprise' In Iraq
World Tribune.com

U.S. military sources said combat units have failed to develop effective
tactics required to defeat the insurgency in Iraq. The Abu Dhabi-based Gulf
News reported that senior officers from the 82nd Airborne Division have
criticized leading military planners for their force protection tactics.
"The result has been a lack of mobility and failure to surprise," a
military source said. "By the time, we arrive at an insurgency stronghold,
half the city knows about it"...

The Voice of the White House February 1, 2005
TBR News
...And as far as the death toll is concerned, I have seen the figures from
the DoD and your estimate of 7,000 dead is a little high but not much.
These slick shits rule that a soldier who dies either while en route to a
foreign hospital or at such a hospital is NOT COUNTED on the daily lists.
Also, a number of GIs have been captured and this is not listed and what
especially is not listed and is strictly classified and forbidden to even
hint at is that the ra! g heads have aced quite a few and cut not only
their heads off but other body parts as well. The French AFP has pictures
of some of the chopped up corpses, still in uniform, but believe me, we
will never see any of these in the States...

UK: A Gov. Organized Press Trip to Iraqi Elections Descends Into Chaos
Jonathan Steele, The Guardian
...In Baghdad the big US networks were lent villas in the green zone but
the print media struggled. Towards the end of the campaign the Americans
laid on helicopter rides of varying use. In Tikrit the group never left the
US base. On polling day in Baghdad the Iraqi police shot at a press car
thinking the driver was a suicide bomber. This persuaded most reporters to
walk, reducing the working perimeter to a few hu! ndred yards from their
hotels...

The Senate Has Confirmed Alberto Gonzales As Our Next US Attorney General:
Did Anyone Have Enough Conscience And Courage To Oppose Him?
Evan Augustine Peterson lll, J.D., thepeoplesvoice.org
...Overarching Conclusions: The whole world was watching our Senate debate
the Gonzales appointment to determine whether American politicians would
hold torture's advocate accountable, or choose instead to reward torture's
advocate with a higher office. Now they have their answer: (1) 98% -- or 54
out of 55 -- of the Republic! an Senators cried crocodile tears when the
Abu Ghraib torture scandal became public knowledge, but then showed us
their disgustingly-hypocritical nature by voting "Yes -- let's reward
torture's advocate with the US Attorney General's office!"; (2) but 80%
--or 35 out of 44 -- of the Democratic Senators had enough principled
respect for universal human rights to vote "No -- we cannot in good
conscience reward torture's advocate with this important higher office!" ...

I Do Not Understand
Monica Benderman
...My husband, Sgt. Kevin Benderman, goes to his preliminary hearing in the
morning, to determine how the military will proceed on the two charges
filed against him, Article 85, Desertion with intent to Avoid Hazardous
Duty, and Article 87, Missing Movement, of the UCMJ. These charges were
filed after he submitted his application for Conscientious Objector status

have no other choice but to refuse rede! ployment back to Iraq. He has
since been reassigned to a Rear Detachment unit at Ft. Stewart, and the
command of that unit has followed the Army Regulations and accepted my
husband's Conscientious Objector application...
