BEHIND THE WALL
CONCEPT
It seems like there is a permanent conflict of humankind in the recent
years, a conflict that can be traced way back on history of humankind. It
is the conflict between people on communication and the raising of barrier
walls. Human efforts to jump over these walls often produced new walls,
sometimes even higher than the old ones. "After the wall" Europe testified
that the ideology wall is not the only existing ideology. Thereís also the
ideology of erasing it. The migration phenomena, very typical for Albanian
people, but for many other people as well, has proved that behind the
"Wall" there are lots of other walls.
I don't believe in the final battle against the Big Wall.
I believe in the everyday struggling to overcome the walls.
Adrian Paci
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
This project consists of reaching the Italian coast through the Otranto
Canal on a motor boat (the ones used for smuggling clandestine to Italy).
During the whole journey the artist collect see water in white transparent
plastic containers. With the pile of these containers he shall construct a
big Water-Wall. A video camera shall record the entire action/journey and
this shall be projected on the Water-Wall. The artist considers the
eventual argument with the Italian police and the effort to convince them
on the artistic nature of the action, an important integral part of this
project. This way, the geopolitical wall shall closely relate to the wall
that forbids the artistic communication.
The motor boat, is the defiant symbol that followed Albanians like the
surrogate of their identity in front of the neighbor beyond the sea. This
symbol shall be released from its negative load, showing up thus as the
carrier of a good will of a subtle gesture, where the adventure and
planning, trust and danger, art and non-art stand close and intermingle
with each other.
