fa chiamare Abu Mu'tassim...

Some Terrorists...
Baghdad Burning. Girl Blog from Iraq...
... People are greeting refugees from Falloojeh like heroes. They are
emptying rooms in houses to accommodate them and donating food, money and
first-aid supplies. Everyone here knows Abu Mussab Al-Zarqawi isn't in
Falloojeh. He isn't anywhere, as far as anyone can tell. He's like the WMD:
surrender your weapons or else we'll attack. Now that the damage is done,
it is discovered that there were no weapons. It will be the same with
Zarqawi. We laugh here ! when we hear one of our new politicians discuss
him. He's even better than the WMD- he has legs. As soon as the debacle in
Falloojeh is over, Zarqawi will just move conveniently to Iran, Syria or
even North Korea. As for the 'peace talks' with Falloojeh- they never
existed...

KUNA
The Iraqi cabinet issued an order to the ministries banning all Iraqi
officials from holding interviews or giving statements to the Qatar-based
Al-Jazeerah satellite television channel. A source, who declined to be
named, told KUNA Monday that a memo has been circulated to all the
ministries on Sunday banning the officials and employees from having
interviews with the channel or giving it any statements

Prizewinner backs Iraqi 'resistance'
Aljazeera.net
Award-winning Indian novelist Arundhati Roy, who will be presented this
week with an Australian peace prize, has defended her views that people
should join what she calls the Iraqi resistance (...) She said activists
and resistance movements "need to understand that Iraq is engaging in the
frontlines of empire and we have to throw our weight behind the Iraqi
resistance". "We can't assume that resistance means terrorism because that
would be playing right into th! e hands of the occupation"...

Missing Weapons Go Far Beyond al-Qaqaa
Lisa Ashkenaz Croke, TheNewStandard
New details have emerged in the week after nearly 380 tons of powerful
explosives were reported missing from the al-Qaqaa munitions facility south
of Baghdad, supporting Iraqi interim government assertions that someone
looted the site following the U.S. capture of the capital city on April 9,
2003. Additional reports by eyewitnesses and the military suggest the
problem extends well beyond that single installation...

Allawi: 'Prepare for civilian losses'
Charles Recknagel
Interim Iraqi Prime Minister Iyad Allawi has confirmed that US and Iraqi
troops will take Fallujah by force if its civic leaders do not let the
government assume control of the restive Sunni city. He told reporters in
Baghdad's heavily fortified Green Zone that he is prepared for civilian
losses in Fallujah if a military offensive becomes necessary. "If we cannot
[reach a peaceful solution], I have no choice but to secure a military
solution. I will do so w! ith a heavy heart, for even with the most careful
plan, there will be some loss of innocent lives," Allawi said...

Imperial Amnesia
Gore Vidal on America's current imbroglio
Emily Udell
... We've lost the Iraq war, no matter how long we stay in there. And
secondly, we have no money. They were proposing about a year ago, merrily,
that they, Rumsfeld etc., needed another 1-million-man army. Well there is
not enough money in the entire country to pay for that. On the other hand,
they do have a plus. There are 2 million jobs forever lost in the last four
years, and that gives you at least 1 million men that you could put unde! r
arms by restoring the draft...

Marines in Iraq want better gear, exit strategy
The Associated Press
... But Marine officers caution that even if U.S. forces overrun the cities
of Fallujah and Ramadi, they don't expect the insurgency to evaporate. And
troops on the ground say they've heard nothing from either Bush or Kerry
indicating Marines will soon leave Iraq. "It doesn't matter who the
president is. Our role should be less and less here - the Iraqis want to do
it themselves. But we'll be here for at least the next four years," said

Iraqis support neither Kerry nor Bush
Turks.US
Iraqis do not care about who the next US president will be, nor do they
support either candidate. They simply want the USA to withdraw its forces
from the ruined country. Many Iraqis believe that the US elections will not
affect Iraq, which is bogged down in turmoil as a result of the clashes
between coalition forces and insurgents, whoever wins Tuesday's US
presidential elections. Rather than a Democrat or Republican victory, they
just want the withdrawal of US forc! es from Iraq...

The Legal Elites and the Iraq War
The Nazis Had Their Law Professors, Too
FRANCIS BOYLE, Counterpunch
The Faculties at such "elite" law schools like Harvard, Yale, Chicago and
Berkeley have made it perfectly clear to the legal community that they are
fully prepared to hire war criminals, warmongers and torturers to their
Faculties, and that they will then train their students to become war
criminals, warmongers, and torturers.. This is an appalling situation.
These so-called elite Law School Faculties are not! fit to educate
students. These so-called elite Law School Faculties believe that they are
above the Law...

Why Are We In Iraq? Bush Family $$$ Signs
Evelyn J. Pringle, www.dissidentvoice.org
...Records from the FEC show that Cheney's PAC contributors included
executives of the companies that have since won the largest contracts in
Iraq. Among them were Thomas Cruikshank, Halliburton's CEO at the time;
Stephen Bechtel, whose family's firm now has a contract in Iraq worth as
much as $2.8 billion; and Duane Andrews, then senior VP of Science
Applications International Corporation, which has won seven contracts in
Iraq. ! However, while Cheney and his pals may well be the most blatant
profiteers in Iraq, they are by no means the only ones involved in this
grand war profiteering scheme commonly referred to as the "War on Terror."
The #1 spot on the list belongs to the First Family...

Interchangeable Figureheads
Selling the War on Terror
LANCE SELFA, CounterPunch
...The continuing disaster in Iraq should be proof enough to indict the
Bush gang for war crimes, let alone give John Kerry his best argument for
"regime change" at home. But until late in his sleepwalking campaign, Kerry
seemed determined not to highlight the war. He only revived his prospects
for the White House when he sharpened his rhetoric against Bush and sought
firmly to hang "the wrong war, at the wrong time" around Bush'! s neck. Yet
in bludgeoning Bush with the issue of the Iraq war, Kerry actually
rehabilitated the "war on terror," the Bush administration's central
ideological prop...

Bamboozling Morality
Kim Petersen, www.dissidentvoice.org
...While the slain Iraqi defenders and resistance fighters are almost
entirely ignored (5), counts are kept for US military fatalities. As of 22
October Paul de Rooij had tabulated 1018 US military fatalities since 1
May, but indicated that some hostile-death figures are "simply not
credible." The figures are approximations because "the Pentagon and their
media surrogates are attempting to hide the true extent of the carnage
among its soldiers." Given the! mendacity of US authorities, it is
necessary for people who wish to avoid being propagandized to seek more
diverse and credible media sources. It also behooves readers to balance
their information with Iraqi accounts untainted by the occupiers...

Purple Hearts Shows Aftermath of War

Michael Austin, Antiwar
...By the end of this book, you might be so frustrated and full of
questions that you want to throw it. What's wrong with American education,
that kids think they can't do anything else besides join the military, or
find order and "something to do" without someone telling them what to do?
(...) How can the media be so irresponsible as to portray war as "fun," and
how can parents, society, and the American government allow future soldiers
to ! believe what they see? How can these veterans not ask more questions
about what they were doing there and what it was worth?...

Taking Stock of Iraqi Deaths

Ann Arbor, Mich.; Bellevue, Wash.; Cape Coral, Fla.; Stamford, Conn.; Green
Bay, Wis.; Manchester, N.H.; Allentown, Pa.; Portsmouth, Va.; Cambridge,
Mass. These are just a few U.S. cities whose populations hover around
100,000 people. In late October, public health experts calculated that an
equal number of Iraqi civilians have died as a result of the U.S. invasion
and occupation of Iraq.

Navy Seal says Iraqi who died at Abu Ghraib was roughed up in CIA's
``romper room''
SETH HETTENA, Associated Press Writer
The Central Intelligence Agency interrogated and roughed up Iraqi prisoners
in a "romper room," where a handcuffed and hooded terror suspect was
kicked, slapped and punched shortly before he died last year at the Abu
Ghraib prison, a U.S. Navy SEAL testified Monday. Blood was visible on the
hood worn by the prisoner, Manadel al-Jamadi, as he was led into the
interrogation room at Baghdad Inte! rnational Airport in November 2003, the
Navy commando said at a military pretrial hearing for another SEAL accused
of abusing Iraqi prisoners...

Losing the Forest Amongst the Trees
Once Again, Most Iraq Coverage Fails to Focus on the Big Picture
Scott Lilly
...The Washington Post, which has actually thus far kept the focus on the
bigger story, reported today that "U.S. military commanders estimated last
fall that Iraqi military sites contained 650,000 to 1 million tons of
explosives, artillery shells, aviation bombs and other ammunition." The
Pentagon reiterated its estimate today that 400,000 tons were destroyed,
leaving between 250,000 and 6! 00,000 tons unaccounted for. The current
controversy focuses on at most 0.2 percent of the unaccounted for weapons
(...) Whichever explanation Secretary Rumsfeld and Undersecretary Wolfowitz
decide to settle on for explaining the disappearance of 377 tons of plastic
explosives from Al Qaqaa, they will not be able to prove that our
post-invasion planning was anything other than catastrophic...
