l'attacco americano era inevitabile e avrebbe potuto opporvi soltanto carri

Ramzy Baroud, Arabcomint
...Le fotografie circolate sui media mostravano i 12 uomini allineati con
simmetria perfetta in un fossato. Uno spettacolo raccapricciante. Guardando
le immagini, la mia prima risposta è stata un brivido incontrollabile ed il
ricordo fugace delle immagini - ancora vivide nella mia memoria - delle
vittime palestinesi di Sabra e Shatila, massacrate nello stesso modo nel

The Legacy of Bush V, VI
Timothy Bancroft-Hinchey, Pravda
The legacy of George W. Bush, who launched an illegal war against Iraq
without a just cause (where are the weapons?) is that he has created
Armageddon, sowing the seeds of chaos in a region which neither he, nor his
legions, understood. He thought he could breeze in and waltz out, saying
"Freedom and Democracy" type phrases and everyone would welcome him with
open arms. What he sees now is that his invasion force is hated, his
invasion force commits massac! res of civilians (while his security forces
have been caught committing acts of sexual depravity and torture), his
invasion force is being attacked all over Iraq, not in isolated incidents
but all day, every day, every single day, in the north, centre and south of
Iraq...

UK troops kill 100 militia in uprising
IAN BRUCE, Defence Correspondent , The Herald
BRITISH troops in and around Basra and Amara killed more than 100 of
Moqtada al Sadr's militiamen during the August uprising, The Herald can
reveal. Three British soldiers died - including one from the Black Watch -
and an unknown number were injured in a campaign that went largely
unreported because the Ministry of Defence issued orders to pursue a
"softly-softly" approach on coverage to avoid inflaming the situation...

The Illegal Iraq Invasion. According to the UN Charter, the U.S. Constitution,
Edward Jayne and Ronald Kramer, www.dissidentvoice.org
...In sum, the U.S., U.K., and their allies have been aggressor nations in
the invasion of Iraq, since they have conducted this invasion in clear
violation of both international and domestic law. By now as many as 37,000
Iraqi and almost 1,000 Americans are estimated to have been killed, and the
number who were injured surpasses anybody's guess. No matter how vicious or
bloodthir! sty the behavior of combatants on either side, the
responsibility for their acts of violence primarily reverts to the
government leaders who possessed the authority to impose upon them an
illegal war rejected by the world at large...

Seymour Hersh's alternative history of Bush's war
Mary Jacoby, Salon.com
Since the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, Seymour Hersh has written more than two
dozen stories for the New Yorker magazine on the secret machinations of the
Bush administration in what the White House calls the "war on terrorism."
His revelations, including an investigation of a group of neoconservatives
at the Pentagon who set up their own special intelligence unit to press the
case for invading Iraq, have consistently broken news...

After Abu Ghraib
The Guardian
It began with a phone call. In November last year 39-year-old Huda Alazawi,
a wealthy Baghdad businesswoman, received a demand from an Iraqi informant.
He was working for the Americans in Adhamiya, a Sunni district of Baghdad
well known for its hostility towards the US occupation. His demand was
simple: Madame Huda, as her friends and family know her, had to give him
$10,000. If she failed to pay up, he would write a report claiming that she
and her family were working for the Iraqi ! resistance...

Yes I've Killed Innocents - Interview With A Disappeared Soldier
Jay Shaft, World Crisis Web
A soldier with a heavy heart and a real tragic choice confronting him
contacted Jay Shaft, and told him of his horror in Iraq, and how he would
not go back again. This moving interview contains his true words, and it
gives his reasons for not wanting to go back for a second time to serve in
the USA's war in Iraq. He is a reservist who has been extended at least
three times under "stop-loss" measures to maintain troop depl! oyment
levels. He was not ever given a choice or a contract renewal option, and
has no legal recourse or way out. He was one week from getting out of the
Standing Ready Reserves when he was reactivated and sent to Iraq in 2003...

Bush failing to admit Iraq's worsening situation: Washington Post
AFP
President George W. Bush's description of recent events in Iraq is "bland
to the point of dishonesty," the Washington Post charged, in a blistering
editorial accusing the president of failing to admit the worsening
situation in Iraq. "His description of Iraq is bland to the point of
dishonesty," the leading daily wrote, noting that Bush said Friday that,
"despite ongoing acts of violence," Iraq has a strong prime minister, a

Optimism in London, carnage in Iraq
Colin Brown Deputy Political Editor, The Independent
The second Iraq war, between coalition forces and insurgents, is now under
way in what has become the "crucible" of the global war on terrorism, Tony
Blair declared yesterday after talks with Iraq's interim Prime Minister,
Iyad Allawi, at 10 Downing Street. The two leaders presented a determinedly
upbeat picture of everyday life in Iraq. They insisted that despite the
recent upsurge in violence elections scheduled for January! would go ahead

Effort to Train New Iraqi Army Is Facing Delays
ERIC SCHMITT, NYTimes
Three months into its new mission, the military command in charge of
training and equipping Iraqi security forces has fewer than half of its
permanent headquarters personnel in place, despite having one of the
highest-priority roles in Iraq. Only about 230 of the nearly 600 military
personnel required by the headquarters, from lawyers to procurement
experts, have been assigned jobs with the group, the Multinational Security
Transition Command, ! military officials in Washington and Iraq said...

Abu Ghraib: The Hidden Story
Mark Danner
...Out of the interlocking scandals and controversies symbolized by Hooded
Man and Leashed Man, the pyramids of naked bodies, the snarling dogs, and
all the rest, and known to the world by the collective name of Abu Ghraib,
one can extract two "master narratives," both dependent on the power and
mutability of the images themselves. The first is that of President Bush,
who presented the photographs as depicting "disgraceful conduct by a few
American troops, who dishonored o! ur country and disregarded our
values"—behavior that, the President insisted, "does not represent
America." And the aberrant, outlandish character of what the photographs
show—the nudity, the sadism, the pornographic imagery—seemed to support
this "few bad apples" argument, long the classic defense of states accused
of torture. The facts, however, almost from day one, did not..

Incident on Haifa Street
Tom Engelhardt, Tom Dispatch
Are there any statistics from Iraq in recent weeks which don't indicate
trouble? Oil production, which Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz
once swore would fund the reconstruction of a democratic Iraq, is now
crippled and well below prewar levels, while attacks on oil pipelines and
facilities have risen sharply; American deaths are on the rise (53 for just
over half of September) as are the numbers of our wounded, as are attacks
on American troops, whic! h are now averaging more than 80 a day, "four
times the number of one year ago and 25 percent higher than last spring"...

Classic guerrilla war forming in Iraq
Brad Knickerbocker | Staff writer of The Christian Science Monitor
...To many experts, the conflict in Iraq has entered a new phase that
resembles a classic guerrilla war with US forces now involved in
counterinsurgency (...) "Guerrilla warfare is the most underrated and the
most successful form of warfare in human history," says Ivan Eland, a
specialist on national security at the Independent Institute in Oakland,
Calif. "It is a defensive type of war against a foreign invad! er. If the
guerrillas don't lose, they win. The objective is to wait out your opponent
until he goes home"...
