Dear friend of UFPJ:

We've marched, rallied, upstaged the Republican Convention, held vigils,
run ads, and reached millions of people via the web.

Now we're going back to basics, to get our message of peace and justice out
to millions of people during the remaining weeks before November 2.

United for Peace and Justice is calling on our more than 800 member
organizations and tens of thousands of individual supporters to join in a
coordinated, face-to-face voter education campaign this fall. Using a
single, bilingual English/Spanish handbill, we can project a united message
outside the narrow constraints of the dominant political debate - at a cost
that grassroots groups can easily afford.

The handbill calls upon voters to focus on what the candidates have done
(or not done) on our core issues: peace, not war and occupation; security
through human rights; and funding schools, jobs, and health care. It's an
issue-based, non-partisan leaflet. While taking square aim at the Bush
agenda, it does not directly advocate for or against a particular party or
candidate, so non-profit groups can distribute it without violating
election-year guidelines.

It's intended for mass distribution -- at fall festivals, political
rallies, outside sports stadiums, or any place where lots of people pass
through or congregate. Experience shows that if you pick an entry or exit
point outside an event with thousands of people, a single activist can
easily hand out 200 or more handbills in an hour. Over three hours,
therefore, 8 to 10
people can distribute 5,000 leaflets, and really make an impact.

Groups can integrate this handbill campaign into your existing work, and
use it as a tool to build your base. As you distribute the leaflet, keep
clipboards with sign-up sheets on hand so interested individuals can plug
into your email list or attend your next event. Or, distribute it together
with a notice about your next organizing meeting.

You can view the 5 1/2" X 8 1/2" leaflet at
http://www.unitedforpeace.org/downloads/voter_handbill.pdf
The handbill has white space at the top where local groups can add your
contact information.

We need to know by September 22 if you want to order one or more boxes of
10,000 at $130 each (shipping included). They will be shipped by the
beginning of October. To order your box, please contact Jeremy at
212-868-5545 or jeremy-glick at unitedforpeace.org

To proceed with this campaign, we need your orders by September 22! We
think it's crucial to get antiwar activists out on the streets during this
election year home-stretch, sending an independent message that we will
continue to push for major policy changes regardless of who is elected.
