Protest when Bush is coronated
Thursday, September 2 in NYC
At the moment George Bush is receiving his well-scripted coronation on Thursday
evening, September 2, the streets around Madison Square Garden will be filled
by people who stand together against the Iraq war, the colonial occupations of
Haiti and Palestine, and the U.S. strategy of endless war and intervention.
The A.N.S.W.E.R. Coalition received the permit for this demonstration that will
begin on Thursday, September 2 at 7 pm at 31st St. and 8th Avenue.
The demonstration is also sponsored by a growing number of progressive and
community organizations including the Free Palestine Alliance, Haiti Support
Network, Al-Awda: The Palestine Right to Return Coalition, The Palestine Right
of Return Congress, NYCLAW (New York City Labor Against the War), Muslim
Students Association - National, Muslim American Society Freedom Foundation,
Global Women's Strike, James Earl Chaney Foundation, Alliance for a Just and
Lasting Peace in the Philippines, Nicaragua Network, Mexico Solidarity Network
and others. It is also endorsed by the National Council of Arab Americans
(NCA). This list is in formation and is certain to grow in the next 24 hours.
Join in any way you can! Tell your friends and co-workers that it is important
for people to be in the streets around Madison Square Garden when Bush is
actually present.
This is a critical moment and the people of the United States must use every
opportunity to build an antiwar movement based on solidarity with and support
for those seeking self-determination as they resist the Empire.
Today, thousands of Palestinian and Arab prisoners are well into the third week
of their open-ended hunger strike against the systematic brutality imposed on
those incarcerated in Israeli prisons. Israeli officials say let the hunger
strikers die. The Palestinian and Arab people are acting throughout the Middle
East and everywhere to politically mobilize support for the hunger strikers
before a tragic situation gets even worse. The September 2 protest will send a
message of solidarity with these enduring unionists, teachers, academics,
political activists and community leaders. In their hunger strike, these men,
women and children are also joining all those opposing the racist Apartheid
Wall.
On September 2, we will also be demonstrating against the war being waged
against working people in the United States. In New York City infant mortality
increased by a staggering 8% in just the last year. More than 1.5 million New
Yorkers rely on donations from food pantries to feed their families - and most
of the recipients are from working families. Meanwhile, the U.S. government
spends $10 million every hour of every to day to occupy Iraq. As we stand in
opposition to the Bush administration, we will insist on our civil liberties
and rights that are being chipped away. We will demand Money for Jobs,
Education, Healthcare and Housing - Not for War.
