Iraq: Neocon Strategy Is One of Civil War
John Walsh
...The fact is that the neocons who control US strategy have no interest in
preventing a civil war but only in inciting one. Sectarian tensions were
virtually unknown in Iraq before the US invasion. And in fact the Iraqi
Shi'is fought loyally as Iraqis against Iranian Shi'is in the disastrous
Iran-Iraq war. So to avoid an Iraqi civil war, the most important step is
to get all the US troops home and thus to terminate US provocations. For it
is now crystal clear ! that the neocon strategy is one of civil war to
divide and destroy Iraq; and such a strategy amounts to a crime against
humanity...

Iraq unbreakable
Hana Al-Bayaty
...The methods used by different Iraqi forces to oppose this occupation
depend on their specific situation. They form a second power and live in
pain and solidarity with one another. The civil and armed resistance
recognise the necessity, legality and legitimacy of each other. They have a
common struggle to defeat the occupation, its stooges and its criminal
plans. Like the civil resistance, the Iraqi armed resistance defends the
independence, sovereignty over national resources, t! erritory and future
of Iraq. Unlike Germany and Japan, Iraq has a sovereign army that did not
surrender, sign a treaty or capitulate to the aggressor. In rising up
against occupation, in its struggle to warrant Iraqis their sovereignty,
the Iraqi resistance is the legal continuity of the Iraqi state...

WAR MAKING 101 - A USER'S MANUAL
Stephen Lendman
...Here's one definition of a dictator or at least one practicing to become
one. It's a head of state able to decide alone with unchallengeable
authority whether or not to take a nation to war for any reason. Here's an
add-on to that definition. If a leader does it for any reason other than to
respond to an attack by another nation or clear evidence an attack is
coming, that leader is also a war criminal. Noam Chomsky believes every US
president since WW II was and! is a war criminal. Ditto, so do I. This
essay will concentrate on the current "war criminal in charge." With some
background for the historically uneducated, I'll then fast forward to the
present and take you into the heart of the beast we better get to know well
and quickly before it eats us alive. I'll lay out what I call a war maker's
manual, step by step or rule by rule, from when we were new at this ugly
business and still learning to the present. Ready? Here we go...

DAILY WAR NEWS FOR THURSDAY, March 23, 2006
Today in Iraq
Insurgents on Wednesday laid siege to the headquarters of a police
paramilitary unit near Baghdad, lobbing a volley of mortars that killed at
least one senior officer and wounded at least five, Interior Ministry
officials said. In the pre-dawn attack, 14 mortars hit a government center
in the town of Salman Pak, 12 miles southeast of Baghdad, housing the 3rd
Public Order Brigade, which has a reputation for torture and abuse. The
members of the paramilitary! unit fought back Wednesday, killing at least
five insurgents, a commander in Baghdad said. By nightfall, the police were
holding at least 76 people for questioning. U.S. "contractor" killed in
Iraq. Suicide car bomber detonates at entrance to Interior Ministry Major
Crimes unit in Baghdad, killing 10 civilians and 15 policemen employed

Death Squads in Iraq: A Timeline
Daisy Cutter, Daily Kos
Recently Think Progress made a timeline of major events in the Iraq war. It
is very informative, but I noticed that one of the most disturbing aspects
of the Iraq war was missing. There is absolutely no mention of the
existence of Shiite death squads that work within the Iraqi government that
the U.S. is currently arming and training. Ever since the `Salvador Option'
story broke I've been keeping track of numerous news stories about these
allegations. I've ! put together all my findings in timeline form. If you
have any informative articles about death squads in Iraq please submit them
in your comments...

Where Are the Sticks?
Monica Benderman ,Orbstandard,com
Maybe it's not such a bad thing that protests, signs; banners and the like
are now being contained. Maybe it's not such a bad thing that "freedom of
speech" is being withheld. Think about it. All these years of chanting
"freedom of speech," all these years of yelling out "we all have rights"
through bullhorns and microphones, and what have we gotten from it? Look
where we are. Maybe it's time to stop the speech. Maybe it's time to put
our actions where our m! ouths have been...

National Impeachment Movement Ignored by Corporate Media
Peter Phillips, GlobalResearch.ca
If a national movement calling for the impeachment of the President is
rapidly emerging and the corporate media are not covering it, is there
really a national movement for the impeachment of the President?
Impeachment advocates are widely mobilizing in the U.S. Over 1,000 letters
to the editors of major newspapers have been printed in the past six months
asking for impeachment...

GI Special 4C20 - Think About This - March 23, 2006
Thomas F. Barton
...Eleven members of an Iraqi family were killed in a U.S. raid on
Wednesday, police and witnesses said (...) The US soldiers started shooting
in to the corner of the room where Eman and her eight-year-old brother,
Abdul Rahman, were cowering. The other adults in the room tried to protect
the two children with their bodies and were all shot dead. Eman and her
brother were both wounded. "We were lying there, bleeding and it hurt so
much. Afterwa! rds some Iraqi soldiers came. They carried us in their arms.
I was crying, shouting, 'why did you do this to our family?’ And one Iraqi
soldier tells me, 'we didn’t do it. The Americans did it’."(...) "Soon the
Iraqi people will see the great compassion of not only the United States,
but other nations around the world who care deeply about the human
condition inside that country." G.W. Bush at Pentagon Briefing, March 25,
2003..

Naji Sabri and the Washington Post
Eli Stephens, Left I on the News
The allegation that Iraqi Foreign Minister Naji Sabri supplied information
to the CIA about Iraqi WMD programs (or the lack thereof) broke two days
ago. It was a strange story from the start, as I explained then; strange
because the implication was that Sabri was telling the truth to the CIA
while lying to the U.N., when actually we know very well he was telling the
truth to the U.N. The next day, Sabri denied this story, asserting that it
was a ! total fabrication, and describing what he saw, quite plausibly, as
the motive for the emergence of this story: "it seems that this new lie is
aimed at giving a new fake pretext to justify the crime of the century: the
invasion of Iraq...

Soldier who killed Iraqi girl in 2004 discharged; no criminal charges filed
William Cole
The Army has discharged without criminal charges a Schofield Barracks
soldier who was involved in the 2004 killing of a 13-year-old girl and
wounding of her sister and mother in Iraq. A criminal investigation was
opened and evidence was reviewed before the decision by Maj. Gen. Benjamin
R. Mixon, the commanding general of the 25th Infantry Division, to approve
the discharge of Sgt. Jeffrey D. Waruch, 28, officials said. "In t! his
case, a review of the investigation determined that no further evidence was
likely to be found that would result in the case going to trial," Schofield
Barracks said in a statement...

Requests to Build Big U.S. Bases in Iraq Raise Concern
Peter Spiegel, LA Times Staff Writer
Even as military planners look to withdraw significant numbers of American
troops from Iraq in the coming year, the Bush administration continues to
request hundreds of millions of dollars for large bases there, raising
concerns over whether they are intended as permanent homes for U.S. forces.
Questions on Capitol Hill about the future of the bases have been prompted
by the new emergency spending bill for military operati! ons in Iraq and
Afghanistan, which overwhelmingly passed the House of Representatives last
week with $67.6 billion in funding for the war effort, including the base
money...

Lynchings and Holy Wars
Zeyad, Healing Iraq
Black-clad Mahdi army militiamen drag the body of Sheikh Ghazi Al-Zoba’i,
the Imam and preacher of the Al-Sabbar mosque around a street in
Husseiniya, a mixed suburb north of Baghdad. I reported this lynching
incident during the sectarian attacks that followed the Samarra shrine
bombing. This is an extremely disturbing cell phone video clip of the whole
scene. Someone shouts: "drag the Wahhabi," while another describes him as a
"bastard." They pause a moment to search f! or a wire, then they dump him
on the side of the road. Another militiaman suggests they bury him. "What
do you mean bury him?" the gang leader snaps back with indignation. "Leave
him here to the dogs." Then they joke about his underwear and cover the
corpse with a cardboard.

Another Civilian Massacre? U.S. Launches Investigation After Iraqi Police
Accuse U.S. Troops of Murdering 11 Men, Women and Children Last Week
Democracy Now!
...The US military has launched an investigation into the killing of Iraqi
civilians by US forces in a raid last week. Iraqi police have accused
American troops of murdering 11 civilians in the assault. According to an
Iraqi police report first obtained by the Knight Ridder news agency, the
villagers were killed after US troops herded them into one room of a! house
near the city of Balad. The dead included five children and four women and
ranged in age from 6 months to 75 years old. The report said the troops
burned three vehicles, killed the villagers' animals and blew up the house.
Local medics said the bodies of those killed had bullet wounds to the head
(...) Several Iraq veterans recently told BBC's NewsNight program that the
Haditha attack was not an isolated. Specialist Michael Blake, who served in
Balad, said it was common practice to "shoot up the landscape or anything
that moved" after an explosion. Another veteran, Specialist Jody Casey said
he was always advised to carry a shovel, which he could plant on any
civilian victims to make it look as though they were digging roadside
bombs...

US-led forces round up whole Iraq village in security sweep
AFP
The entire adult male population of a village west of Baghdad was rounded
up in a major joint US-Iraqi operation against insurgents that netted two
"high value targets." Operation Northern Lights, which involves more than
1,100 US soldiers and marines as well as Iraqi army units, is targeting
bomb-making cells and weapon caches in the vast rural fields west of the
capital...

It's criminal
Scott Ritter
...It has long sense been common knowledge on the part of those waging it.
In Vietnam Americans were shocked by the revelations of Mai Lai and the
murder of innocent Vietnamese civilians by American fighting men. But Mai
Lai is repeated in bits and pieces every day in Iraq, with the American
military occupation slaughtering family after family of Iraqis in the name
of bringing peace and security. The realization that something has gone
horribly wrong in Iraq, however, has not translated! into any kind of
discernable action on the part of the American people...

Dubya's uncle nets $3 million from war profiteering
clammyc, Daily Kos
The LA Times is reporting today that "Uncle Bucky" William H.T. Bush,
younger brother of Bush 41, has just made close to a cool $3 million from
the sale of a company that profited from the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.
Just another coincidence like Bill Frist's "non-insider trading blind trust
profits" or Halliburton just happening to get record profits and no-bid
contracts or Carlyle Group profiting handsomely or Karzai's coincidental
connection! to Unocal before being installed as puppet leader in
Afghanistan.... And if that wasn't enough to make you want to throw
something out the window, the company is the target of not one but two SEC
investigations...
