International Commission Delivers Verdicts on Bush Administration
Guilty! Guilty! Guilty! Guilty!
Revolution Online
It was a historic moment at the National Press Club in Washington, only
blocks from the White House. On February 2, the preliminary findings of the
International Commission on Crimes Against Humanity were read out by Ajamu
Sankofa, executive director of the Physicians for Social Responsibility-NY
and former national secretary of Blacks for Reparations in America.
Listening to the verdicts,! Ray McGovern, a former CIA analyst and founder
of Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity, exclaimed: "This is what
our German forbearers in the 1930s did NOT do. They sat around, blamed
their rulers, said 'maybe everything's going to be alright.'... That is
something we cannot do. Because I don't want my grandchildren asking me
years from now, 'why didn't you do something to stop all this?'"...

Craven
LENIN'S TOMB
Not to go on about the cartoons again, but I think it's just worth
mentioning that - of course - the reaction of leaders of Arab states to
this event is totally cynical and hypocritical. They, and the more pliable
elements of the ulama that they employ (particularly at Al-Azhar) didn't
make half as much noise about the invasion of Iraq as it was happening. And
it is ironic that this much pressure has been applied, that the Saudi
government went so far as to threaten a boycott on Danish dairy p! roduce
and yield a threatening reaction from Peter Mandelson, just as the leading
Gulf states are totally capitulating to the US/European agenda on Iran...

Paying The Iraq Bill
Joseph E. Stiglitz
...Shortly before the current Iraq war, when Bush administration economist
Larry Lindsey suggested that the costs might range between $100 and $200
billion, other officials quickly demurred. For example, Office of
Management and Budget Director Mitch Daniels put the number at $60 billion.
It now appears that Lindsey’s numbers were a gross underestimate. Concerned
that the Bush administration might be misleading everyone about the Iraq
war’s costs, just as it had about Iraq’! s weapons of mass destruction and
connection with Al Qaeda, I teamed up with Linda Bilmes, a budget expert at
Harvard, to examine the issue. Even we—opponents of the war—were staggered
by what we found, with conservative to moderate estimates ranging from
slightly less than a trillion dollars to more than $2 trillion...

If You Oppose the War:Influence Congress, Support Anti-War Candidates and
Influence the Media
An Interview with Activist David Swanson
Kevin Zeese
...Well, what powers Congress retains amounts to what powers they use and
fight for. The Bush Administration is stripping Congress of powers at a
tremendous pace. And Congress has abandoned claim to the power to declare
war. Re funding, Bush illegally shifted money from Afghanistan to Iraq
without asking for permission from Congress - and paid no penalty for! it.
Nonetheless, it would force Bush to a new level of dictatorial power grab
were Congress to cut off all war funding, and were he to attempt to
continue what seems to be his mission in life: killing Iraqis. There is a
bill in Congress to end funding for the war: H.R. 4232, the "End the War in
Iraq Act of 2005." It has 15 cosponsors. That means there are 420 members
of Congress happy to continue funding this massive crime...

Why Russia betrayed Iran
Mike Whitney
Many people are probably wondering why Russia caved in at the IAEA board
meeting and agreed to have Iran sent before the UN Security Council.
Russia, of course, is very familiar with Iran’s nuclear program (having
worked with Iran on its nuclear power plants) and fully realizes that the
Mullahs are not developing nuclear weapons. So, why would they go along
with the coercive maneuvering of the United States that is so clearly
designed to pave the way for war? Obviously, the R! ussian foreign
minister’s comment that the referral to the UNSC is "only a warning"
doesn’t adequately explain why Russia would have placed its ally in such
grave danger of a preemptive attack. So why did Russia capitulate?...

Religious leaders call for end to detention without trial in Iraq
Ekklesia
Christian and Muslim leaders have issued a joint statement calling for
justice for Iraqis who are being detained in Iraq without trial, and the
release of four Christian peacemakers in Iraq. The open letter has been
signed by 45 Christian and Muslim religious leaders. It expresses concern
for the four Christian Peacemaker Team hostages - Norman Kember, Tom Fox,
Harmeet Singh Sooden and James Loney - who have been held in Iraq since 26
Nove! mber 2005 but also for the thousands of Iraqis also held without
charge or trial since the war with Iraq began almost three years ago...

Bush Beckons the God of Pluto: Nuclear Reprocessing
Mina Hamilton, www.dissidentvoice.org
On Monday, February 6th the Bush administration is planning to unveil a new
energy policy initiative. After a 30-year ban, the US is about to gut a key
non-proliferation tool and resume nuclear reprocessing. To the uninformed,
reprocessing sounds as bland and harmless as, well, processed cheese. The
nuclear industry has contributed to this notion by sometimes referring to
reprocessing as "recycling". Quite the contrary, nuc! lear reprocessing is
a dangerous activity that, among other potentially catastrophic downsides,
makes plutonium accessible for theft and use in atomic bombs...

Saddam may be forced to attend trial - prosecutor
Mariam Karouny, Reuters
Saddam Hussein may be forced to appear in court when his trial resumes next
week, the chief prosecutor said on Monday, expressing frustration at the
former leader's persistent boycotting of proceedings. Ja'afar Moussawi also
confirmed that Saddam's defence team had been barred from visiting him and
seven co-accused in jail, saying the lawyers had lost that right when they
stormed out of court last week after clashing with the chief judge. S!
addam's chief counsel, Khalil Dulaimi, said on Sunday the team had been
prevented from seeing their client and accused the court of being
interested only in Saddam's speedy conviction...

Danish cartoon conspiracy
Xymphora
We’re starting to see the details of the conspiracy behind the Danish
cartoon scandal. The Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten, which started the
problem by actually commissioning cartoons that would make Muslims furious
as an experiment to see if political correctness would prevent the cartoons
from being published – you can’t make this stuff up! - supports the
anti-immigration Danish governing coalition, and has historic ties going
back to the 1920s and 1930s to European fascism! . The editor in question,
Flemming Rose, apparently has ties to Daniel Pipes (as if we couldn’t see
that coming!)...

An Open Letter to the Anti War movement – Iran’s Nuclear Industry and the
threat of sanctions
Etehadchap Kargari Iran- (Workers Left Unity) - I'n'I
As the anti war movement contemplates the possibility of sanctions against
Iran it is essential to remember a number of points: 1-The attempts by the
United States and the European Union to stop Iran’s obtaining nuclear
technology is unjust . The IAEA protocols to prevent nuclear proliferation
are unacceptable from the point of view of either principle or legality. C!
ountries which themselves possess sufficient nuclear weaponry to destroy
the world several times over – and are continuing to add to their arsenal –
are laying down the law to others – or some of them (...)3 - Iran’s current
strength in the region is a direct consequence of the US/UK invasion of
Iraq and the coming to power of a Shia pro Iran government in Baghdad. The
recent pronouncements by the governments of USA and UK regarding Iran’s
nuclear program are more to do with Iran’s close relations with all
factions of the occupation government in Iraq and the long term
consequences of such influence. 4- Any support by the anti war movement for
current Iran’s rulers will lead to indirect support for the occupation
government in Iraq..

Punishing Denmark: Taking on the Wrong Enemy
Ramzy Baroud, PalestineChronicle.com
Only an irresponsible and intellectually inept individual would sketch such
insulting images as those depicting Prophet Mohamed by a cartoonist in the
Danish Jyllands-Posten newspaper. And no self-respecting newspaper would
allow itself to run such filth. However, the backlash in the Muslim world
highlights a much more serious issue (...) This is neither an attempt to
defend Denmark (or Norway) or its apparently selective "freedom o! f the
press", but to highlight the misconstrued priorities inundating the Arab
world today. During a decade of US-led UN sanctions in Iraq, neighboring
Muslim and Arab countries were commended by the US, saying that their
cooperation was vital to the success of the sanctions imposed on the
stricken nation. According to the most modest and outdated UN reports, over
500,000 Iraqi children died as a result of the lack of medicine. Where was
the popular uproar then, the diplomatic fury and the boycott campaign?...

No more Sunnis in Iraq?
Truth About Iraqis
Iraqi Sunni leaders have been for weeks calling on the international
community to pay closer attention to news of Sunnis targeted and killed by
the Iranian Iraqi Interior Ministry. But after the discovery of some 14
bodies riddled with bullets and displaying obvious signs of torture were
found in Baghdad, the language has taken a turn to the more desperate.
Iraqi Sunnis are now saying they are being systematically and ethnically
cleansed by the Iranian-funded and support! ed Badr Brigades (armed wing of
the Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq - SCIRI) which have
infilitrated the Iraqi Interior Ministry, the police, secret police, and
the military forces...

Bush Propaganda Machine Twist Message of Toles Cartoon
Toles’ so-called offensive quadriplegic drawing is the ruse.
Dan Merica
A political cartoonist knows that when his work bristles neck hairs and
causes uproar, he has hit the nail square on the head because the truth
stings the worst. In contrast, Bush’s lies seem to slide through the court
of public opinion with nary a peep. Such is the case for Tom Toles,
Pulitzer Prize winning cartoonist of The Washington Post. His cartoon
causing the furor pict! ures a quadruple amputee soldier in a hospital,
being visited by a Dr. Rumsfeld, filling out a chart. Rumsfeld says, "I am
listing your condition as battle hardened." At the bottom a smaller figure
of the doctor adds, "I'm prescribing that you be stretched thin. We don't
define that as torture." According to Toles, the cartoon was in response to
Rumsfeld's remarks about "battle-hardened" troops after a
Pentagon-sponsored report said the Iraq War risks breaking the military...

Congress: Its High Crime
Have They Read their Job Manual...The Constitution?
Mark S. Tucker
Recently, the Boston Globe ran a pleasant little article regarding the faux
State of War currently being conducted by the Bush Crime Syndicate. It was
well-intended, to the point, and rather abrupt, as well it should have
been. Unfortunately, it was also entirely beside the point. The point,
which every niche of the political spectrum backs away from, is the very
plain fact that the near-entire Congress not only! committed a high crime
but probably also, if the two are even separable in certain duties,
treason...

Protest warmonger’s visit!
Amy McDonell
You might remember, some two-and-a-half years ago, US President George Bush
standing triumphantly on the deck of the USS Abraham Lincoln, announcing
the "end of major combat operations" in Iraq. According to Bush, Iraq was a
free nation, well on the way to becoming a Western-style "democracy". Fast
forward three years and we can see exactly how much freedom the Iraqis are
enjoying. The British medical journal the Lancet estimated in 2004 that
more than 100,000 Iraqis have d! ied due to the war and occupation. There
are thousands of Iraqis being held without charge in US custody, many being
subjected to torture. Whole cities have been heavily bombed, and the Iraqis
face daily terror from occupation forces...

Cartoons are a purposeful provocation
Christopher Bollyn, American Free Press
...The fact that the editors behind the anti-Islamic images claim to be
exercising free speech while refusing to address Europe's strict censorship
laws regarding discussion of the Holocaust and the ongoing imprisonment of
historical revisionists reveals the existence of a more sinister agenda
behind the provocative cartoons. "Agents of certain persuasion" are behind
the egregious affront to Islam in order to provoke Muslims, Professor !
Mikael Rothstein of the University of Copenhagen told the BBC. The key
"agent" is Flemming Rose, the cultural editor of JP, who commissioned
cartoonists to produce the blasphemous images and then published them in
Denmark's leading morning paper last September...

Iran and Venezuela Plan War on Israel

According to the minutes of a recent secret meeting, obtained by the
Associated Press, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of Iran told President Hugo
Chavez of Venezuela, "Iran is thinking of flying reconnaissance aircraft
with fighter cover over Israel, painted in UN colors. If Israel fires on
them, it would be grounds for war." Ahmadinejad also said Iran was
attempting to assassinate Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon (...) These
two presidents almost sound crimin! al and a bit insane until you discover
that this is not really from the Associated Press, that this is actually
from a White House memo, and that I've substituted Ahmadinejad and Chavez
