“Violent Insurgency”:
How "Progressives" portray the Iraqi Resistance
Ghali Hassan, GlobalResearch.ca
...The Iraqi Resistance is not an "insurgency". Insurgency is an organized
rebellion aimed at overthrowing a legitimate and constituted government by
force, such as the Contras, a U.S. proxy terrorist gang used against the
legitimate government of Nicaragua in the late 1980s. There is nothing
legitimate about the U.S. Occupation and its puppet government in Iraq. The
Iraqi Resistance has the support of! most Iraqi (...) Yet, many Western
"progressives" and U.S.-controlled media persist on describing the Iraqi
Resistance as "insurgency". Naom Chomsky, an analyst of U.S. foreign
policy, wrote recently: "Last January’s elections came about because of
mass non-violent resistance, for which the Grand Ayatollah Ali Sistani
became a symbol. (The violent insurgency is another creature altogether
from this popular movement.)" (...) In March 2005 on the same pages of the
Khaleej Times Chomsky described the Iraqi Resistance as "bomb throwers".
The Occupation is innocent of any wrong-doing, and the Iraqis are to blame
for the violence.

The state of the Empire: 2006
James Petras, Rebelión
...The US will continue to substitute an air war for a ground war in Iraq:
For every 10,000 troops withdrawn, there will be hundreds of added air
attacks. The US policy toward Iraq is a classic case of "rule or ruin" of
Biblical proportions. Since the US or its puppet regimes cannot rule,
Washington’s policy is to regress the country into an "Afghanistan" of
warring clerical and ethnic warlords and tribal chieftains based on
min-fiefdoms. The debate over a new ! war against Iran is still not
resolved because of the deep divisions in Washington, Israeli military
threats and the Federal spy trial of 2 leaders of the major pro-Israel
lobby (AIPAC – American Israel Public Affairs Committee)...

GI Special 4A4: Prisoners Against The War 4 - January 11, 2006
www.militaryproject.org
...The United States of America. Home of The Free. Home of The Brave. A
country that is suppose to serve and protect it's citizens from harm and
danger. President George W. Bush instituted a war against Saddam and his
regime, claiming that he had weapons of mass destruction, and that Iraq
posed a threat to the United States' national security. So in their fight
to combat terrorism, all the young men and women was hauled off to ! fight
a war that in the end turned out to be a lie. Upon investigation, there
were no weapons of mass destruction found in Iraq. The only thing found in
Iraq was the bodies of innocent men and women who had been victims of a
U.S. invasion to seize control of the Natural Resource of Iraq (oil)...

NSA, FISA and the DNA of Tyranny
Chris Floyd, Empire Burlesque
With each passing day, it becomes more evident that the main purpose behind
Bush's illegal, warrantless domestic spying program is not collecting
intelligence on terrorists and would-be terrorists – a task for which the
government's existing draconian powers of surveillance were more than
sufficient. As many people have noted, Bush already possessed the legal
right to order the immediate surveillance of any person in the country,
subject to the sole r! estraint of having to seek approval from the secret
FISA court within 72 hours...

Baath Party Statement
When the occupation forces are broken down in Resisting Iraq, enemy and
puppet Media lies and fabrications grow bigger
The Arab Baath Socialist Party
...When the Baath Party rightly predicted that the parliamentary elections
were the US occupation last failed political episode in Iraq and became an
added political impasse for the occupation, the puppet authority and the
racist and sectarian parties, which participated in the elections. It was
more than predictable and obvious to se! e the fabricated news grow and
multiply, specially in the Media and press funded and employed by Arab
regimes, being affected by the regional crises imposed by the Iraqi Armed
Resistance Strategy and by passing all the Arab petrified regimes failed
wishful hopes and attempts, in particular "the Saudi clique of Abdel Aziz
dynasty" which are working hard to publicize the US occupation political
process...

ON THE NECESSITY OF IMPEACHMENT: ALL WE ARE SAYING IS GIVE THE CONSTITUTION
A CHANCE
Evan Augustine Peterson III, J.D., OrbStandard

2006 began with Mr. Bush brazenly insisting that he can unilaterally order
wiretaps on American citizens without judicial oversight, even if
warrantless domestic wiretaps are explicitly prohibited by federal law.
Under what rationale? Mr. Bush claims the virtually unlimited presidential
power to override any laws, and even to cancel our
constitutionally-guaranteed civil liberties, because the US is at war.
According to his legal advisors, this imperial presidential power
supposedly comes from: (a) an expansive interpretation of the
Constitution's commander-in-chief clause; and (b) a post-9/11 Congressional
resolution authorizing the use of armed force against terrorists. This
raises a question: may the president abuse an ostensible state of war to
curtail the people's civil liberties? And that raises a sub-question: is
the nation, in actual point of law, at war right now, Congress having made
no formal declaration of war?...

ABC's SCOOP: "MILLIONS" OF AMERICANS' PHONE CALLS TAPPED BY N.S.A. (with video)
Doug Ireland
ABC's "Nightline" last night aired a terrifying scoop: a former senior
insider at the National Security Agency said that the agency has illegally
spied on "millions" of Americans who make telephone calls overseas. As
ABC's excellent Brian Ross reported: Russell Tice (right), a 20-year
veteran with the NSA turned whistleblower, told ABC: "IRussell_tice_1
specialized in what's called special access programs," Tice said o! f his
job. "We called them 'black world' programs and operations."...

Amnesty Releases New Gitmo Torture Testimony
Amnesty International, Press Release
Marking the fourth anniversary of the first transfers of detainees to
Guantánamo Bay in Cuba, January 11, 2006, Amnesty International released
new testimonies alleging the use of torture and ill treatment against
prisoners in the U.S. detention center and additional details on several
detainee cases. The testimonies include that of one of the first detainees
to be transferred to Guantánamo, Jumah al-Dossari, a 32-year-old Bahraini
n! ational who was taken to the U.S. Naval Base in January 2002 after being
held by U.S. forces in the Kandahar airbase in Afghanistan. Al-Dossari's
testimony, corroborated by people who have now been released from
Guantánamo, includes several allegations of physical and psychological
torture and ill treatment inflicted by U.S. personnel both on him and on
other inmates in Afghanistan and Guantánamo...

NSA: Free Speech is a Weapon of Mass Destruction
Kurt Nimmo, Another Day in the Empire
As further evidence the Bushcons are not interested in snooping "al-Qaeda,"
and in fact there is no "al-Qaeda" threat in America, consider revelations
that the NSA snooped the Pledge of Resistance-Baltimore, a Quaker peace
group. "The National Security Agency has been spying on a Baltimore
anti-war group, according to documents released during litigation, going so
far as to document the inflating of protesters’ balloons, and in! tended to
deploy units trained to detect weapons of mass destruction," reports the
Raw Story. "According to the documents, the Pledge of Resistance-Baltimore,
a Quaker-linked peace group, has been monitored by the NSA working with the
Baltimore Intelligence Unit of the Baltimore City Police Department"...

Turmoil in Iraq Is Part of Progress, Bush Says
Michael A. Fletcher, Washington Post
Speaking to members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Bush said that in the
coming weeks Iraq is likely to be the scene of "a good deal of political
turmoil" as factions jockey for position and vie for power. Rather than
being alarmed by those developments, he said, "we should welcome this for
what it is: freedom in action." "Out of the turmoil in Iraq, a free
government will emerge that represents the will of the Iraqi people, ins!
tead of the will of one cruel dictator," Bush said.

Pity Baghdad's police: Insurgents want to blow them up and restaurants
don't want to seat them
Huda Ahmed & Dogen Hannah, Knight Ridder Newspapers
"We ask the police not to come," said Yasser Emad, 39, the manager of his
family's popular restaurant in the capital's middle-class Karrada district.
"We hate to do this, but we want peace for the public and the restaurant."
It's an awkward conversation that can end unpleasantly, yet restaurant
owners and workers said they had no choice but to protect lives and
livelih! oods. The bombings, while sporadic, are too frequent and
devastating for restaurants and their civilian customers to ignore.

The Panopticon: A Mass Surveillance Prison For Humanity
Alex Jones & Paul Joseph Watson
The Panopticon is defined as a prison so constructed that the inspector can
see each of the prisoners at all times, without being seen. This is an
accurate description of the accelerating movement by western governments to
erect giant, powerful, all-pervading mass surveillance, tracking and
control grids that will keep all populations firmly under the baleful and
watchful gaze of Big Brother. We are still debating the NSA list! ening to
foreign calls from the US when the NSA admitted twenty years ago that they
were listening to domestic US calls under the Echelon program. This is
de-classified and public but the media acts like they don't know about it.

Stuff and Nonsense
James Gordon Prather
If the publisher and editors of the New York Times thought the soon-to-be
released book – entitled State of War: The Secret History of the CIA and
the Bush Administration – by their reporter James Risen will undo the
damage done to the reputation of the "newspaper of record" by disgraced
neo-crazy media sycophant Judith Miller, they may be in for a surprise.
True, President Bush was so desperate to prevent their publishing a story
based on a "revelation" in Risen's book tha! t he summoned publisher Arthur
Sulzberger and executive editor Bill Keller to the Oval Office in a futile
attempt to suppress it...

Most Popular Idea at Last Weekend's Out of Iraq Events? Impeachment.
David Swanson, AfterDowningStreet.org
A long list of peace organizations put together over 150 town hall forums
last Saturday on the topic of getting out of Iraq. Reports, and audio and
video, from dozens of these events have been posted at
<http://www.afterdowningstreet.org. >www.afterdowningstreet.org. What I
gather from reviewing the reports, and from the two events I attended, is
that the most popular topic was no! t the horrors of war or any legislation
to end it, but the demand to impeach President Bush and Vice President

"This is the face of American terrorism"
Imad Khadduri , Free Iraq
...My uncle Abdulrazaq (my father's younger brother who is 50 years old)
was in Iraq (in our local city of Samarra Iraq) on Thursday January 5th,
2006 and at 8pm went to go meet with his business partners to finish
financial exchanges and on his way back he was killed by American troops.
Upon stealing the $10,000 that were in his coat pocket the troops that the
Americans are so proud of and support, found that he did not have any
weapons or explos! ives and then they dumped his body at the local hospital
and walked away with his money (...) My uncle Abdulrazak is not the only
one, there are thousands that have died in this way. This is the face of
American terrorism...

The series is made by one-time BBC correspondent and former independent
member of Parliament Martin Bell, who has described the mil! itary attack
on Baghdad as an "ill-considered adventure" whose outcome was potentially
