International Call for United Nations Investigation of Killing of Defense
Lawyer in Trial of Saddam Hussein
EMERGENCY COMMITTEE FOR IRAQ
Based on news reports suggesting that the men who murdered lawyer Sadoon
al-Janabi may have been officials of the United States-supported Interim
Iraqi government, calls have been made for a United Nations-led independent
investigation of the killing. On 21 October 2005, eyewitnesses told Al
Arabiya TV that "Mr. Janabi’s abductors, dressed in suits and ties,
identified themselv! es as officials of the Interior Ministry." This
Ministry of the Iraqi government is reported by the New York Times, to have
faced repeated accusations in recent months that it has harbored Shiite
death squads that hunt down members of the Sunni Arab community with links
to Mr. Hussein’s years in power. On 24 October 2005, the Iraqi Lawyers
Union made a call for an independent UN investigation in public statements
which also called for a boycott of the proceedings until an investigation
determines responsibility for the killing.

torture-style tactics being used against their clients and say they are
being involuntarily and violently force-fed by prison guards and medical
staff. They allege that military officials have violently pushed large
feeding tubes up prisoners' noses, forcing the tubes all the way down their
throats and into their stomachs. Moreover, this was done without any
anesthesia or sedatives, causing ! "unbearable" pain. "Guards took the
nasal-gastric tubes from one detainee, and with no sanitisation whatsoever,
reinserted it into the nose of a different detainee," said attorney Julia
Tarver, who represents 10 Saudi detainees. "When these tubes were
reinserted, the detainees could see the blood and stomach bile from other
detainees remaining on the tubes"...

I wonder how many people really believe that the milestone figure of 2000
US soldiers killed is the real truth - I certain do not, and it has nothing
to do with my views on the war, but everything to do with the various
independent reports and analysis emanating from numerous sources around the
world. Recently a friend of mine came back from Baghdad, what he reported
was consistent with many others who have come back from the region, about
the level of violence, s! ecurity and the level of attacks on the US
forces. Even the most die hard pro-war supporters have trouble believing
the reports from the embedded sources, or from those reporting from their
Hotels in the 'comfort zone’ or the so-called Green Zone, named in the
fantasy Hollywood style!...

Peace. Juan Torres was with us and his son, Juan, was murdered in
Afghanistan. First of all, I was followed all morning by the Park Police. I
guess because I am a very dangerous subversive. I! would never hurt a flea,
