Miller's Confession; wading through the BS for a grain of truth
Mike Whitney
If you plan on reading Judy Miller's long and circuitous apology in the New
York Times Sunday edition, bring your hip-waiters. The obfuscating manure
is knee-deep and bound to stymie even the most curious reader. Miller's a
slippery customer, but a picture is slowly developing of someone who was
deeply involved in White House maneuverings to discredit Joseph Wilson.
It's clear now that Dick Cheney's right-hand man, Scooter Libby prov! ided
Miller with the name of ex-CIA agent Valerie Plame. Plame's name appears at
least twice in the notebook Miller used when she interviewed Libby although
she pretends that she cannot remember whether or not he furnished the name
(...) The larger question is, however, where did Libby get Valerie Plame's
name? The only person who would have had access to classified CIA
information like that would have been his boss, Dick Cheney...

Democracy and Human Rights Records in Iraq
Freedom Voice Society for Human Rights - Baghdad / Iraq, Member Advisory
Committee BRussells Tribunal
...As long as the occupation forces and the pro-occupation government keep
oppressing freedom of expression, press and religious beliefs and
congregations, let alone the arbitrary illegal detentions against those who
are just practicing their rights, as well as those working on defending
human rights, human rights will always be as tragic and disastrous as it is
a! t the moment. Today, under the US democracy, there are more than 196,000
detainees behind the democracy bars, only few of them were released, more
than two million immigrants in forced exile, more than three million
civilians who fled their homes leaving to other parts of the world, many of
which died in the course of coercive exile, the ongoing brutalities
practiced by the occupation forces and their collaborators of government
forces and the locally ill-reputed pro-government militias, who launch
military offensives with all sorts of weapons, conventional or
unconventional, covered by military aircrafts...

Iraq voting is illegal: the coming invasion of Venezuela too
Henk Ruyssenaars
Whatever the US/UK occupiers - because of their arms the main force in Iraq
- draft or call it: holding a referendum about rewriting a Constitution is
illegal, like the planned US invasion of Venezuela is too. Not only
international law, but the also by the US signed Geneva Conventions (iv) of
1949, prohibit the modification of the domestic laws or legal institutions
of the occupied power...

Pen-for-hire and the real conspirators
Xymphora
...I've noticed that the spin on this story is already to protect the New
York Times at the expense of Miller. She was a 'rogue' 'run amok' who
'lied' to her editors, etc., etc. This completely ignores the fact that the
editors for months and months had continued to send her out to produce
obvious lies about the WMD, inexplicably continued to support her even
after the deception was revealed (to the extent of making a laughingstock
of the whole paper), and are still! apparently unable to explain
themselves. From the publisher and the editors on down, there was a
concerted conspiracy in the New York Times to lie to the American people to
force an illegal attack on Iraq...

What Awaits Samira?
Uri Avnery
...The main result of the war will be the breakup of the country into three
mutually hostile components - Sunni Arabs, Shiites and Kurds. Whether this
breakup of the Iraqi state is disguised as a "loose federation" or in some
other way is immaterial. The important point is whether control over the
oil resources is vested in the central or the local authorities. It was
clear that the Kurds would settle for nothing less then de facto
independence, keeping their oil revenues for themse! lves...

Judges liken terror laws to Nazi Germany
Marie Woolf, Raymond Whitaker and Severin Carrell
A powerful coalition of judges, senior lawyers and politicians has warned
that the Government is undermining freedoms citizens have taken for granted
for centuries and that Britain risks drifting towards a police state. One
of the country's most eminent judges has said that undermining the
independence of the courts has frightening parallels with Nazi Germany...

Iraq voting (update)
Baghdad Dweller
It seems that Condoleezza Rice knows the results before it’s official
announcement: Iraq constitution ‘probably passed’: Rice “There is a belief
that is has probably passed. But again, we’ll see,” (...) First I just want
to say, stop saying words like “Doesn’t matter “yes” or “no”, what matters
is the democratic process” or “ even the Sunnis are voting” because these
words has no meanings, results does matter and the Sunnis participation is
well-known before mont! hs. It is not an issue of “vote” or “not vote” we
had this last January, it’s a matter of “yes” or “no”...

Iraqi Resistance Report for events of Sunday, 16 October 2005
Translated and/or compiled by Muhammad Abu Nasr, member, editorial board,
the Free Arab Voice. ( http://www.freearabvoice.org )
In a bulletin posted at 7pm Sunday evening Mecca time, Mafkarat al-Islam
reported that 25 Iraqis, most of them children, had been killed just a
short while earlier when US aircraft bombed a gathering of men and boys
around a US armored vehicle that had been blown up by a bomb in the al-Bu
Fahd area east of ar-Ramadi. The Maf! karat al-Islam correspondent reported
a medical source as saying that 25 people were killed in the American
attack, 21 of them children. Nine other people who had been among those
crowded around the wreckage of the American vehicle were wounded...

Deep Plame
Xymphora
Why did the White House - and it appears that almost everybody was involved
- spend so much time and effort, and take so many political risks, going
after Wilson and Plame? Didn't they have anything better to do? Their
bungling efforts at dirty tricks just made Wilson's article more famous
than it otherwise would have been. Why did the White House immediately turn
to Judy Wilson and the New York Times when it wanted to start this
particular dirty trick? How did the White House dirty tricksters! know to
start their planning for the attack on Wilson/Plame even before Wilson
wrote the article which caused the problem?...

Bush's Obscene Performance with Troops in Tikrit
Matthew Rothschild
It was obscene enough that Bush put on such a staged event. Turns out now
that one of the soldiers he called on was actually a Pentagon PR person
[1], whom he refused to identify as such. But even more obscene was Bush’s
immature and foolish boasting about how cool it was that the soldiers were
in Tikrit, Saddam’s hometown. First, he said, “By the way, you’re in
Tikrit, as I understand it, as well. It’s kind of an interesting place to
be. It’s Sa! ddam’s old stomping grounds.” He’s so out of it he thinks the
people of Tikrit are grateful to the U.S. troops for being there...

GI Special 3C84: "They Are All Liars To Me" .- October 16, 2005
www.militaryproject.org
I know how the soldier feels that feels betrayed. I can't believe this war.
Bush said it was over one year ago and they are still coming home wounded
and dead. I bet the American people will not vote Republican again next
time - and I am republican but I fell betrayed the way Bush and company
lied to the American people - and Clinton sold us out and I can't stand to
see Bush Daddy and Clinton together. They are all liars to m! e and I don't
trust anyone of them...

Al-Qaeda’s Barber of Baghdad
Kurt Nimmo, Another Day in the Empire
in America, we are served up news stories that really matter—for instance,
the capture of the “al-Qaeda” barber, Walid Muhammad Farhan Juwar
al-Zubaydi. “The Barber’s’ duties included altering senior al Qaeda in Iraq
members’ appearances by dying hair color, altering hairstyles and changing
facial hair in their efforts to evade capture,” a U.S. military statement
expects us to believe. I bet he dyed their hair platinum blonde, since this
is a popu! lar hair color in Iraq. Nobody in the corporate media challenges
these absurd stories and they soon become “factual” elements of the
official “al-Qaeda” mythology...

Aziz 'won't speak against Saddam'
BBCNews
A lawyer for Tariq Aziz has denied a British newspaper report that the
former Iraqi deputy prime minister will testify against Saddam Hussein. The
lawyer, Badie Izzat Aref, said Mr Aziz would not give evidence against the
former leader, whose trial is set to begin on Wednesday. The Sunday
Telegraph said Mr Aziz would testify in return for his freedom, quoting
both US officials and Mr Aref...

Suicide 100 percent
Xymphora
Nobody believes that Ghazi Kenaan committed suicide, or as Damascus
Attorney General Mohammad al-Louji called it "Suicide 100 percent". So who
murdered him, and why? The Zionists and their fellow travelers claim it was
because he knew too much about the assassination of Rafik Hariri, and how
much the Syrian government is implicated in it, but it seems very odd to
leave his removal for having that kind of information to so late a time.
The anti-Zionists claim that the Mossad did him in! because he knew too
much about American/Israeli participation in the assassination of Hariri,
but that is even less likely as he undoubtedly would have revealed such
involvement by now...
