Bush and New Orleans; criminal negligence or premeditated murder?
Mike Whitney
President Bush's greatly celebrated "apology" for Hurricane Katrina tells
us that we are now in the second phase of the White House diversionary
strategy; nothing more. The administration's first plan, which was to deny
everything by opining, "I don't think anybody anticipated the breach of the
levees," has been dismissed as nonsense by a profoundly engaged public.
Now, we're on to "Phase Two", a more thoughtful approach that replicate! s
the strategy that was used following 9-11. But, before we get to that,
let's take a moment to articulate the charges as we see them against Mr.
Bush. There is abundant evidence suggesting that the federal government
"intentionally" withheld vital aid to the victims of Hurricane Katrina...

THE BUILDUP TO THE IRAN-IRAQ WAR
Malcom Lagauche
Today, 25 years after the beginning of the Iran-Iraq War, we hear almost
unanimous opinions that Iraq started the conflict. The late Jude Wanniski,
former assistant editor of the Wall Street Journal, calls this thought
process the "rewriting of history." A few months ago, he eloquently put
forth an article taking us back to 1979 and 1980 and describing incidents
of the day. He was outspoken about this subject and criticized those who
have fallen into the "Iraq star! ted the Iran-Iraq War" sphere. Prior to
Iraq firing its first shot, Iran had sabotaged Iraqi interests and had
shelled Iraqi border towns. This was all documented and presented by Iraq
during that period...

Mongols, Romans and American soldiers
Imad Khadduri , Free Iraq
...How have our military boys and girls been taught to be beasts? How have
they been transformed from caring, Christian kids into brutes who kill and
are happy they killed men, women and children? Who taught them that Iraqis
were animals to be hunted and killed? Who taught them that it was o.k. to
go in and terrorize a city like Fallujah, bombing mosques and killing men
and boys because they protested the American brutality? Who taught them to
go in ! and terrorize a city like Tel Afar and laugh about it and say it
was because of "terrorists"--when it was ordinary citizens they were
attacking and killing--often people who were huddled in their homes with
fright? The only answers I have are GW Bush, the devil Dick Cheney, the
brute Donald Rumsfeld and the evil pusher, Wolfowitz...

The Gulf of Disbelief
William Bowles, I'n'I
... it’s not simply the state bureaucracy that has abandoned the people of
Mississippi but the state itself. What used to be called the social
contract between the governed and those who govern has been cast aside,
surplus to requirement in this age of rapacious and crisis-ridden
capitalism. Aside from everything else Hurricane Katrina has blown away
it’s also ripped off the mask that covers the real face of corporate
capitalism and reveals the stark reality that the US! government has as
little regard for its own ‘citizens’ as it does for those of Iraq or
Afghanistan...

No Photos of Dead “Cockroaches” Allowed in New Orleans
Kurt Nimmo, Another Day in the Empire
Let CNN sue the Bush administration all it wants. It will make no
difference in the new New Orleans, where the Pentagon is in control (along
with Blackwater mercenaries and militarized cops) and the First, Second,
and Fourth Amendments of the Constitution no longer exist. “On Saturday,
after being challenged in court by CNN, the Bush administration agreed not
to prevent the news media from following the effort to recover ! the bodies
of Hurricane Katrina victims,” reports the San Francisco Chronicle. “But on
Monday, in the Bywater district, that assurance wasn’t being followed. The
82nd Airborne soldier told reporters the Army had a policy that requires
media to be 300 meters—more than three football fields in length—away from
the scene of body recoveries in New Orleans. If reporters wrote stories or
took pictures of body recoveries, they would be reported and face
consequences, he said, including a loss of access for up-close coverage of
certain military operations.” No doubt journalists are relieved—in Iraq,
when the media ventures too close to “certain military operations,” they
are often shot dead...

Baath Party Statement
The US continuous crime in Tallafar
"Repeating the same style before any failed political agenda"
The Arab Baath Socialist Party - Al-Moharer
The occupation and the puppet authority repeat their cowardly action
through their criminal aggression against the city of Tallafar as a racist
and sectarian attack, in an attempt to implement their failed political
agenda imposed by the occupation and according to its thwarted and foiled
program in resistant Iraq, where the "constitutio! n" draft was slipped
through a legislative farce to set for the "referendum farce" to be
organized on the next 25th October...

MOD figures reveal one thousand British casualties in Iraq to date
Craig Murray Friend
With the sad news of two more deaths of British soldiers earlier this week
and another today, it may be time to ask again about the true cost of the
Iraq war - this time to the British people. A simple answer is available
you might think, but actually it is next to impossible to find the true
number of British casualties. The reason is that the government and
Ministry of Defense , unlike their American counterparts, do not will!
ingly issue any information on the large number of wounded UK personel.
These hidden casualties include people who have lost limbs and had their
lives permanently shattered but, because they survived, their loss receives
no public recognition...

GI Special 3C52: Iraq Vets Shit On At Bragg - September 14, 2005
www.militaryproject.org
...When the armies of the tyrants pulverize humans and houses, with their
missiles and bombs, it is called hunting terrorists' with an undeclared
level of collateral damage, another word for dead women and children. When
the oppressed retaliate with martyrdom operations, it is called terrorism.
Exactly who is terrorising whom? Who lives in fear and terror - the
inhabitants in Iraq, Palestine and Afghanistan or those in the U! S, UK,
Italy and Australia? Who is delivering more terror, those dropping daisy
cutters, cluster bombs and Napalm, or those shooting with outdated RPGs?...

No War But Class War!
Beth Moore
Look upon the city of New Orleans and the Mississippi Gulf Coast now, and
you see the true face of capitalism. Look upon the tens of thousands of
people who were abandoned, displaced, and then even disparaged by our
government and its media minions for being trapped there by poverty, age,
youth, or disability. They lived for days on end with no food, water, or
shelter. They lived amidst corpses and raw sewage, seeing the ill and
elderly die with nothing but the odd blanket or shee! t with which to cover
their bodies, watching babies being born with only contaminated water in
which to wash their tiny bodies, and being promised that help would come
tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow, until tomorrow never came for
thousands...

Iraqi Resistance Report for events of Monday, 12 September 2005
Translated and/or compiled by Muhammad Abu Nasr, member, editorial board,
the Free Arab Voice.
...In a dispatch posted at 3:30pm Mecca time Monday afternoon, Mafkarat
al-Islam reported that a spokesman for the Ninwa Province branch of the
Iraqi Journalists’ Union, Mr. Ahmad Khalil al-Mawsili gave an exclusive
statement to the Mosul correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam in which he said
that US and Iraqi puppet troops had been maltreating Iraqi journali! sts,
preventing them from entering the city of Tall ‘Afar to cover the battle
raging there. The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent quoted al-Mawsili as
saying on behalf of the Journalists’ Union that more than 17 journalists
have been imprisoned inside an American camp because they tried to enter
the city with their cameras and video equipment without the knowledge of
the American occupation forces...

Even before the dying is over
The corporate vultures move in
Milt Neidenberg, Workers World
...Cost estimates for restoring the Gulf Coast infrastructure have already
reached $200 billion—more than enough to attract the biggest corporate
vultures. “A Halliburton Co. subsidiary that has come under fire for its
reconstruction work in Iraq has begun tapping a $500-million Navy contract
to do emergency repairs at Gulf Coast naval and Marine facilities that were
battered by Hurricane Katrina.“ (AP, Sept. 4) ! Vice-President Dick Cheney
headed Halliburton from 1995 to 2000. The government is locked into
fulfilling the needs of the military-industrial complex. Halliburton/KBR is
a notoriously anti-union corporation. There are 22 “right to work” states
and Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama are among them. They also have some
of the highest poverty levels in the country. And now, estimates are that
at least 1 million jobs have been wiped out...

"You got the wrong Texan"
Sydney demonstration against the arrest and pending deportation of US
anti-war activist Scott Parkin

On a few hours notice about 120 demonstrators assembled outside the Sydney
Headquarters of the Federal Police at 5.30 pm. Scott Parkin is a US peace
activist who spoke at the Sydney Social Forum has been stripped of his visa
and detained in Melbourne as a 'threat to national security'. He is being
detained without any charge and is likely to be deported very! soon. The
actions of ASIO and AFP in this case show that the increasing powers they
have been granted by the government to supposedly deal with terrorism are
being used to target anti-war activists who are critical of the Australian
government...

Imprisonments anger Iraqis
75 PERCENT OF IRAQIS DETAINED LATER FREED FOR LACK OF EVIDENCE
Larry Kaplow, COX NEWS SERVICE
The U.S.-led dragnet for insurgents catches the harmless much more often
than the dangerous, according to military figures, helping breed resentment
among Iraqis who often languish in prison for months before the system sets
them free. Nearly 75 percent of all detainees arrested are being set free
because there is not enough evidence that they pose a threat, according to
the Army. Man! y -- about half -- are freed within days of their arrests by
the units or divisions that captured them. But thousands of others are sent
to major prisons, such as Abu Ghraib, where they are waiting an average of
six months before their release, according to 1st Lt. Kristy Miller,
spokeswoman for the military's detention system in Iraq...

George Galloway MP: Elements Within Government Using Terror Provocation Tactics
Steve Watson & Alex Jones
On Friday 9th September Alex Jones was joined on air by member of
Parliament and prominent antiwar activist George Galloway for a riveting
one on one interview. Mr Galloway discussed the rising tide of anti-Iraq
war protest, the snarling Neo-Cons' plan for world war and the possibility
of staged government terror attacks to justify the invasion of more
countries (...) Previously Mr Galloway has suggested that! there is a very
real danger of the government engineering a situation where terror attacks
can be manufactured and seized upon to forward the pre-planned agenda

Bombs, gunmen kill over 150 in Baghdad
Mohammed Ramahi and Faris Mehdawi, Reuters
A suicide bomber lured a crowd of Shi'ite day labourers to his minivan and
blew it up in Baghdad on Wednesday, killing 114 people and wounding more
than 156 in Iraq's second deadliest bombing since the war began. The bomber
drew the men to his vehicle with promises of work before detonating the
bomb, which contained up to 500 pounds (220 kg) of explosives, an Interior
Ministry source said...

Light and Darkness: America’s Reaction to 9/11
Remi Kanazi
On September 11th, 4:30 am, the commemoration of America’s loss was just
hours away in Manhattan as I stared at the lot where the twin towers had
once been. Dozens of camera vans waited roadside for the morning coverage.
Just to the right I saw the “tribute in light,” two blue shafts beaming
stories high into the sky—the representative of the strength and
magnificence of the twin towers. As I imagined the old skyline of my city,
I realized something. Ame! rica hasn’t learned a thing in the last fours
years (...) Today 138,000 US troops illegally occupy Iraq. 1896 Americans
have died in vain (...) Tens of thousands of Iraqi men, women, and children
have died due to the blindness and the brutality of our “war on terror”...

What went wrong
Gary Kamiya, Salon.com
The U.S. government, its military, its press and its people have operated
in ignorance of Iraq from the beginning. The United States invaded Iraq
blindly, occupied it blindly and is now blindly trying to find a way to
escape. In this darkness, the publication of Anthony Shadid's "Night Draws
Near: Iraq's People in the Shadow of America's War" is an important event,
a ray of light. This is the first book about the Iraq war to tell the Iraqi
side of the story. It is painful an! d necessary reading...

New traffic regulations hurt free movement, say residents
IRIN
The decision by the Iraqi authorities to regulate vehicle traffic in an
attempt to ease long queues at pumping stations and control jams in the
capital, Baghdad, has hindered free movement in the city, local residents
said. It also led to a huge increase in the black market price of petrol.
Drivers, who have had to put up with shortages for sometime, said petrol
now costs up to $1 a litre on the black market, up from $0.05 before the
new regulations w! ere effected in August...
