Friedman would predict. As a result, after the brother told me the story of
Muhammad's death, I asked him what he thought about the idea that the
Sunnis are fighting against the U.S. and the current Iraqi government out
of some kind of r! acism or because they can't stand to see the Shiites in
power after decades of Sunni rule. To this Muhammad's brother simply
responded, "I am Shiite." So here was an example of violence that did not
occur along sectarian fault lines as expected. Instead, Shiites
collaborating with the occupiers killed a fellow Shiite resisting the
occupiers...

Forcing the facts to fit the theory

A story in the Daily Mirror, 16/7/05 titled ‘Exclusive: Was it suicide?’,
attempts to use essentially the same facts presented here but still make
them out to be bombers. There are a lot of problems with this approach,
especially in the light of the latest information to emerge. Firstly, they
all bought return tickets and bought an eight-hour ‘park and ride’ ticket
in Luton, so they most definately intended to return. The Mirror story
asserts they intended! to plant the rucksacks but were ‘fooled’ by their
‘handler’. All four men had rather large rucksacks which would be difficult
leave on a train without being immediately noticeable. Anybody who is
familar with London Underground trains will know that trying to hide
anything in a carriage is impossible, there are no spaces under seats, no
luggage racks, in fact nowhere a large rucksack can be tucked away. So how
did they intend to leave the rucksack without being noticed?...

Ex-general, son found dead after arrest in Iraq

A former general in Saddam Hussein's army and his son were found shot dead
in Baghdad after being detained by police commandos, an interior ministry
official said yesterday, raising new question marks over the discipline of
the elite force. Akram Ahmed Rasul al Bayati, a major general in the old
regime's disbanded military, was arrested at his east Baghdad home last
Sunday along with two of his sons — Ali, a policeman, and Omar, the
official said. Omar was later! released and one of his uncles offered to
pay $7,000 for the release of the other two. The money was handed over on
Friday afternoon, said the official, asking not to be identified...

58 dead in attack south of Baghdad

A fuel tanker detonated near a gas station south of Baghdad and killed 58
people, a bloody incident police are calling an attack. The strike -- which
occurred in Musayyab, in a volatile stretch in Babil province about 45
miles south of the capital -- also wounded 86 people, police said. Police
say the blast destroyed a neighboring apartment complex and damaged a
Shiite mosque and surrounding businesses...

Three British soldiers killed in action in southern Iraq

Three British soldiers were killed early on Saturday during hostile action
in southern Iraq, the British command said. The clash occurred in the
southern city of Amarah, located in Maysan province north of Basra, the
British command said. "We can cofirm that three soldiers from South Force
Maysan have died from injuries sustained in hostile action in the early
hours of Saturday morning," a British spokesman said on customary condition
