BLOOD OF THE INNOCENTS
Grace Reid
...Yesterday a suicide bomber targeted an American soldier who was busy
distributing candy to Iraqi children during a bomb alert. The soldier, the
bomber and thirty-two were killed. And the death toll continues to rise.
This is the US armed forces, this is not the Red Cross/Red Crescent. Why
would a US soldier be handing out sweets in the middle of a bomb alert? Why
is this going on? Last year, in a similar incident, 37 children lost their
lives at a ceremony for a new water trea! tment facility...

Bringing the Insurgency Home to America?
Bill Henderson
...How is it possible that the fifth estate of the world's greatest
democracy can't comprehend that Iraq is the crime of the century? That Bush
contempt of truth, democracy and the rule of law is THE huge story, so much
bigger than Watergate, than Iran-Contragate? That we are living in the
equivalent of Germany in the '30s; and that dimly most Americans even
realize that government has been captured and that America is the aggressor
in Iraq and pushing in As! ia towards possible nuclear war ? That a very
provocative America is sending a clear signal that it will use it's
overwhelming military power to secure what America needs - period? If you
lived in Germany in the 30's and could see what was coming, would you have
an obligation to try to stop Hitler's government?...

IRAQ's Marshes Beyond Politics
Wafaa' Al-Natheema
...The amount of lies and disinformation written about the drainage and the
drying of Iraq’s southern marshes is truly appalling; so much so that the
leaders of post-occupation Iraq are treating the drying project as a crime
against humanity and intend to press charges to that effect against the
leaders of the past regime accordingly. One of the examples to illustrate
these lies; Dr. Hussain Shehrastany, the present deputy speaker of the
national assembly publicly! claimed in 1993/1994 that he possesses solid
evidence that Saddam used chemical weapons to destroy all forms of life in
the marshes. The claim received very wide coverage in the western media. A
UN investigation committee was sent to the area via Iran using Shehrestany
nominated guides; they found no evidence to support the claims, however the
resulting report was quietly shelved and forgotten...

London 7/7 Attack: Creating the Enemy
Ghali Hassan, GlobalResearch.ca
Instead of saying; it is too early to say who is responsible for the 7/7
London bombing, Tony Blair immediately accused Muslims and Islam of the
crimes. No evidence, no names and no documentation were provided to support
his accusations. This happened despite the fact that all Muslim nations
have strongly condemned the attacks on innocent people. They do so, Blair
said, because they "hate our way of life" and "our values". Why these
‘Muslim ter! rorists’ chose Britain of Blair not Switzerland or Sweden? The
word why has simply disappeared from the language of both politicians and
the media...

Dahr Jamail on Iraqi Hospitals Under Occupation, War Profiteering and the
"Brain Drain" Out of Iraq
Democracy Now!
...Well, in this report, I surveyed 13 different hospitals in Iraq, mostly
in Baghdad, but some to the north and some to the south. And I presented
this as evidence that at the World Tribunal. And it was the brunt of my
testimony where, in summation, the report really showed that hospitals now,
a little over two years into the occupation, are suffering far worse than
they were even under the sanction! s against Iraq. The most common quote
that I heard from doctors when I was working on this report is that ‘Our
situation now is worse than it was even during the sanctions.’ In sum,
disastrous levels of medicine shortages, equipment shortages, supply
shortages, and almost no reconstruction happening, and also another one of
the major findings was what appears to be now a standard operating
procedure in the military of a deliberate targeting of hospitals,
ambulances, and medical workers...

Iraqi Resistance Report for events of Thursday, 14 July 2005
Translated and/or compiled by Muhammad Abu Nasr, member, editorial board,
the Free Arab Voice.
...US occupation forces together with their Iraqi stooges continue their
extensive offensive against the Sunni population of the city. On Wednesday
evening the US and Iraqi puppet forces carried out a large-scale raid on
the Sunnis, rounding up 92 young men charging them with “financing” the
Resistance – which the Americans call “terrorism,” and with participa! ting
in the Resistance. The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported
witnesses as saying that doctors, professors, teachers, university
students, and religious scholars are among those arrested in the American
offensive...

Corruption threatens to leave Iraq with a 'ghost army'
Patrick Cockburn
A tidal wave of corruption may ensure the Iraqi army and police will be too
few and too poorly armed to replace American and British forces fighting
anti-government insurgents. That could frustrate plans in Washington and
London to reduce their forces in Iraq. The Iraqi armed forces are full of
"ghost battalions" in which officers pocket the pay of soldiers who never
existed or have gone home...

Pentagon Misses Deadline for Required Iraq Report
Brendan Coyne, The NewStandard
This past weekend, the Pentagon failed to provide Congress a required
report on security and political conditions in Iraq and an assessment of
the military’s "strategies of success" in stabilizing the occupied country.
In a letter released Monday, United States Congressman Marty Meehan
(D-Massachusetts) called on Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld to come
before Congress and provide details on the training of Iraqi security
forces and! the continuing involvement of US troops in the war torn nation,
as required by a provision of the emergency spending bill signed into law
last May...

The Anti-Empire Report
More Things You Need to Know Before the World Ends
William Blum
...The United States will eventually have to leave Iraq, at least
partially. But when that happens, watch carefully. Observe who has retained
control of the oil and other economic entities; and who has retained
various privileges. In the early days of the occupation, the Coalition
Provisional Authority under American official Paul Bremer passed a number
of laws which guaranteed American corporations all kinds of benefits wi! th
minimal risk. Those laws are still on the books and, as written, will be
very difficult to change. And what Iraqi governing body will be able to
make the US close its bases, including the new ones currently being
built?...

A MUST READ. Ambassador Joe Wilson -- a Patriot for Truth Who is Being
Slandered Yet Again by Rove Foot Soldiers -- Shares His Letter to the
Senate Select Intelligence Committee with BuzzFlash.com.
A BUZZFLASH GUEST COMMENTARY
...It is essential that the errors and distortions in the additional
comments be corrected for the public record. Nothing could be more
important for the American people than to have an accurate picture of the
events that led to the decision to bring the United States into war in
Iraq. The ! Senate Intelligence Committee has an obligation to present to
the American people the factual basis of that process. I hope that this
letter is helpful in that effort. I look forward to your further
"additional comments...

The Rules Of War: Bush-Blair In Fantasy Land
Ward Reilly
...Let's pretend for a moment that "al Qaeda" IS responsible for the London
bombings. That is what George and Tony are claiming. So let's assume it's
true. Just for the sake of argument. What is more disgusting than seeing
Bush and Blair lament about the tragedy of "innocent civilian victims"
being killed? Nothing, that's what. Bush saidon July 8, "....And the
contrast couldn't be clearer between the intentions and the hearts of those
of us who care deeply ! about human rights and human liberty, and those who
kill---those who have got such evil in their heart that they take the lives
of innocent folks." "...take the lives of innocent folks." he said. It is
"evil" he said. Earth to un-Curious George....can you say "100,000 dead
Iraqis"? All dead because of you, since March 19, 2003? ALL INNOCENT...

More killings of civilians by US-led forces in Iraq
James Cogan, WSWS
Through the general fog of censorship, propaganda and one-sided reporting
that surrounds the occupation in Iraq, revelations of US-led forces killing
Iraqi civilians continue to surface. The most recent is the suffocation of
10 men in Baghdad on July 10 after they were left locked in an Iraqi police
commando van in the intense summer heat. The case was reported by Al
Jazeera, the BBC and other networks the following day. Further details were
pu! blished by US newspapers on July 12. The attention had forced the Iraqi
interior ministry to announce that an investigation will be held...

Bush’s Orgy of Carnage
Mike Whitney
America has never been involved a war more clearly immoral than Iraq. From
the phony pretext of weapons of mass destruction to the sadistic treatment
of prisoners at Abu Ghraib, the conflict has been a nauseating chronicle of
butchery and deception. Now, the victims of that massive crime are striking
back in London and Madrid while the Bush press-corps regurgitates the same
stale theories about radicals and Islam. What baloney. Baghdad has morphed
into an assembly-line for ext! remists churning out enough fanatics for
1,000 London-type bombings. This is Bush’s work; and Blair’s. The people
who were killed in the London subway died for the crimes of their
government, not because some young Muslim studied under a fiery cleric in
South Leeds. The carnage is as much Bush and Blair’s responsibility as if
they had carried the bombs on the subway and detonated them themselves...

"I really do not have an answer to that one"
Imad Khadduri, Free Iraq
...After two and a half years of a 'blissful occupation' with showers of
flowers, they are still incapable of formulating a 'policy' or provide an
'answer' on why they allow large crowds and entice children with candy
around their tanks and humvees? The 'military chain of command' is not
reading its milblogs and noting the 'charity' of its scared to death
soldiers. Perhaps this ought to be another one of Rumsfeld's metrics.
Perhaps the policy s! hould state: "Offer candy only when dismounted and
walking among the natives, if you dare"...

Editorial: Karl Rove/Real issue is the case for war
Star Tribune
...In the scheme of things, whether Rove revealed Plame's identity,
deliberately or not, matters less than actions by Rove, Bolton, Cheney and
others to phony up a case for war that has gone badly, has cost thousands
of lives plus hundreds of billions of dollars, and has, a majority of
Americans now believe, left the United States less safe from terrorism
rather than more. That's the indictment which should matter most...

Sticky Fingers
The Making of Halliburton
JEFFREY ST. CLAIR, CounterPunch
There's no more pungent symbol of the corrupt nature of the Bush
administration's invasion and occupation of Iraq than Halliburton, the
Houston, Texas-based oil services conglomerate, which has made billions
from the war even in the face of charges of massive overbilling, shoddy
work, official bribery and political influence-peddling. The remarkable
thing is that Halliburton's looting of Iraq and the US treasury happened in
broad d! aylight, right under the nose of the press, the Democrats and
Michael Moore, who made Dick Cheney's former company the bete noir of his
film "9/11." Nothing deterred the company from capitalizing on the war it
helped orchestrate...

The Downing Street Memos: piecing together the political puzzle
NewsTarget.com
"It sounds like a grudge between Bush and Saddam," Peter Rickets, political
director of the British foreign office, told Foreign Secretary Jack Straw
in the March 22, 2002 Downing Street memo. Though many British and American
anti-war groups have questioned the war against Iraq and the search for
Osama bin Laden from the beginning, the now-famous Downing Street memos may
be the catalyst that sparks their grumbling into a decisive roar.! For the
British, the first Downing Street memo -- a minute-by-minute record of a
meeting between British Prime Minister Tony Blair, Straw and other top
officials -- reinforced the prevailing anti-war sentiment among the British
populace...

Abu Ghraib Tactics Were First Used at Guantanamo
Josh White, Washington Post Staff Writer
Interrogators at the U.S. detention facility at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba,
forced a stubborn detainee to wear women's underwear on his head,
confronted him with snarling military working dogs and attached a leash to
his chains, according to a newly released military investigation that shows
the tactics were employed there months before military police used them on
detainees at the Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq. The techniques, approv! ed by
Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld for use in interrogating Mohamed
Qahtani -- the alleged "20th hijacker" in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist
attacks -- were used at Guantanamo Bay in late 2002 as part of a special
interrogation plan aimed at breaking down the silent detainee...

The London Explosions, the Rogue Network, Bush and Iran
Webster G. Tarpley, Serendipity
...My thesis is that the London explosions represent a form of
communication on the part of the transatlantic Anglo-American financier
faction with Bush, Blair, and the heads of state and government assembled
at Gleneagles, Scotland for the G-8 meeting on the day of the blast. The
London deaths were designed to deliver an ultimatum in favor of early war
with Iran. Here a word of clarification may be necessary. The demonization
! of Bush by his many enemies, while understandable, risks blurring the
basic realities of power in the US and UK...

Iraqi Resistance Report for events of Wednesday 13 July 2005
Translated and/or compiled by Muhammad Abu Nasr, member, editorial board,

...In a press conference in the area of the Republican Palace in Baghdad –
the headquarters of the US occupation known to the invaders as the “green
zone” – a spokesman for the puppet so-called “Iraqi ministry of justice”
said on Wednesday that since the Americans’ “operation lightning” several
weeks ago, US forces and their stooges had arrested 7,598 persons ! on
charges of taking part in armed activities against the occupation – or what
the invaders call “terrorism.” The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent who
attended the press conference reported that judge ‘Abd al-Hasan al-Maliki a
spokesman for the puppet “justice ministry” said that most of those
prisoners were “under investigation” by Iraqi puppet “security officers”...
