THE FORGOTTEN YEARS
Malcom Lagauche
...Almost one year before the official start of the war, U.S. and British
planes were already bombing all kinds of targets in Iraq; not just those
regular marks in the "no-fly zone" that had been attacked for years.
Telecommunication facilities and many more venues in the Iraqi
infrastructure were under attack beginning in May 2002, in what Britain and
the U.S. called "spikes of activity." (...) A few days ago, it appeared
that the memo and the information about the early start! of the air war
would damage Bush. But, as with everything else concerning lies about Iraq,
the agenda for justice has been buried in officialdom. The mainstream
lapdog media are calling the memo "old news." That brings us to the time
between March 1991 and March 2003 in which the public was led to believe
there was no war going on. There definitely was a war: a one-side one in
which only the U.S. was allowed to go on the offensive...

Entire nation of Iraq on list of endangered sites
KAREN MATTHEWS, Associated Press Writer
A Roman aqueduct in Spain, New York City's hotly debated "lollipop
building" at 2 Columbus Circle and the entire country of Iraq are among the
World Monuments Fund's list of 100 most endangered sites announced Tuesday.
"This is the first time we have listed a country as endangered, and I think
that we can all understand that every site in Iraq that is significant in
terms of cultural heritage is at risk today," said Bonnie ! Burnham,
president of the World Monuments Fund. She said thousands of important
sites in Iraq, known as the cradle of civilization, are at risk from war,
looting and neglect...

Remember When Bush's Lies Weren't "Old News"?
David Swanson, AfterDowningStreet.org - OrbStandard.com
The most repeated excuse by U.S. media outlets for not covering the Downing
Street Minutes and related documents is that they tell us nothing new, that
they're old news. This conflicts, of course, with the second most common
excuse, which is that they are false. If they're false, they can't be news
at all, much less old news. So, the question arises, when was this new
news? At what point did it become old news ! to report that Bush had
decided by the summer of 2002 to go to war and to use false justifications
related to weapons of mass destruction and ties to terrorism?...

Secret admirers: The Bushes and the Washington Post
Bev Conover, Online Journal Editor & Publisher
With the Downing Street Minutes that unmask his lies, with his wars in
Afghanistan and Iraq lost, with his poll numbers tumbling, with Republicans
jumping ship, with the economy tanking and with parents shielding their
children from his military recruiters, why is George W. Bush still smiling,
swaggering and acting like the dictator he hopes to become? The friction
from the grinding wheels of unintended consequences! have lit a fire, the
flames of which need to be fanned until they consume Bush, his whole
administration, and the worthless whores and pimps in Congress...

New report by Dahr Jamail: “Iraqi hospitals ailing under occupation
Bert De Belder, BRussells Tribunal
From April, 2004 through January, 2005, Dahr Jamail surveyed 13 hospitals
in Iraq in order to research how the healthcare system was faring under the
US-led occupation. While the horrendous security situation in Iraq caused
him to confine the survey to hospitals primarily in Baghdad, hospitals
west, north, and south of the capital are included in the report. The
report documents the desperate supply shortages! facing hospitals, the
disastrous effect that the lack of basic services like water and
electricity have on hospitals and the disruption of medical services at
Iraqi hospitals by US military forces.

Their solution for Iraq won’t satisfy
Alex Callinicos, Socialist Worker
...The Pentagon is condemned to the labour of Sisyphus, who was damned for
eternity to push a rock up a hill only to see it roll down again. The US
can retake Ramadi—and other Iraqi towns—but it can’t hold them. The present
offensive in Iraq near the Syrian border is unlikely to change this
pattern. Hence the search for a political solution, reflected in contacts
between US officials and political forces associated with the insurgents,
includ! ing some organisations that have been involved in armed struggle.
But what can the US offer these forces that will bring the war to an end?...

IRAQ: Focus on treatment of foreign Arabs
IRIN News
Ahmed Bodini, a Sudanese national, was driving his family home from a
supermarket in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, when he was stopped at a
checkpoint by government troops and interrogated. "The national guards made
me get out of the car and started swearing at me and humiliated me in front
of my family because they discovered that I was Sudanese. I was immediately
handcuffed and blindfolded and taken for three days of interrogation at a
prison and beaten," Bodin! i said. "They released me, giving me one week to
leave the country telling me that we Arabs are terrorists who carry out
suicide attacks that threaten world peace and security. But I don't have
anywhere to go," he said. Bodini has lived in Iraq for nearly 20 years...

If the Downing Street Documents are fake
DJPAULEDGE.com
...This is a pathetic attempt by the mainstream media, which is the
propoganda tool for the Republican party, to cover their corruptness and
their support of a lying war criminal. The stories that the DSM are fake
(actually its only one in question) have already been refuted by Tony Blair
and George Bush.. .

Be afraid, be very afraid — something evil this way is coming!
Jack Dalton, SmirkingChimp.com
...Virtually everything BushCo has done since 9/11 especially the "Patriot
Act" has been to silence dissent and opposition to the plans of BushCo,
which simply stated is permanent one party "rule" (their word not mine) and
the pushing of their "world view" and moralistic self-righteousness down
our throats; and all while BushCo violates every international law,
agreement and our own constitution. But, no matter as BushCo! is rewriting
that document on a daily basis. Now we have something else that BushCo
wants to rewrite, or just do away with all together and the BushCo mouth
pieces in the U.S. House of Representatives are right there to help -- can
anyone say, Tom DeLay & Co? They are out to repeal the 22nd Amendment to
the Constitution -- the two term limit on the presidency!...

Sibel Edmonds – An Appeal to the Internet Community
W. David Jenkins III, PNAC
...As important as the Downing Street Minutes and continued pressure on the
mainstream media are to revealing the truth to the nation, there is another
critically important story that requires our attention and our action — and
the clock is ticking away on this one. We have only until the end of July
to make a difference and perhaps turn the course of history. Of course, I’m
referring to Sibel Edmonds and, after my conversations with ! her, I felt I
should make an effort before time runs out and her witness to significant
governmental chicanery is suppressed by the government forever...

Rush Limbaugh Plumbs New Depth Of Perversion; Releases Gitmo T-shirt Line
Prison Planet
OxyContin quaffing, Bush worshipping, torture apologist Rush Limbaugh has
plumbed a new low in both sickness and inacurracy. Limbaugh has been
hawking a new line of caps, T-shirts and mugs that depict the Guantanamo
Bay detention camp in Cuba as a holiday home. The T-shirt above reads,
"Your Tropical Retreat from the Stress of Jihad." Another reads, "I Got My
Free Koran and Prayer Rug at G'itmo" and another, "My Mullah went to! Club
G'itmo and All I Got Was This Lousy T-Shirt" (...) Recall, this is the same
Rush Limbaugh who last year said the Abu Ghraib prison guards were "just
having a good time" and "blowing off some steam"...

IRIN News
Aid agencies and doctors have called on Coalition forces in Iraq to allow
them safe access to the village of Karabila in the west of the country, as
battles between troops and insurgents continue. "The situation is critical
in the village of Karabila. Hundreds of injured people are inside the town
requiring urgent medical treatment but have been prohibited to leave the
village by US forces and we are not authorised to enter there," Dr Hamed

Suicide Bombing Shatters Bush's Faith-Based Bubble
Kurt Nimmo, www.dissidentvoice.org
...Of course, Bush's "faith-based perspective" and refusal to face the
music in Iraq will lead to more suicide bombings and more unnecessary
death. "From Hezbollah in Lebanon to Hamas on the West Bank to the
Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam in Sri Lanka," writes Pape in his book,
Dying to Win: The Strategic Logic of Suicide Terrorism, "every group
mounting a suicide campaign over the past two decades has had as a major
ob! jective -- or as its central objective -- coercing a foreign state that
has military forces in what the terrorists see as their homeland to take
those forces out." Pape's well-reasoned and methodical conclusion, based on
research spanning more than two decades, will naturally be dismissed out of
hand by the neocons, who have a vested interest in portraying suicide
bombers as crazed Islamic fundies with no regard for human life, including
their own...

What's With the MSM?
Patricia Goldsmith, www.dissidentvoice.org
I think it’s safe to say the mainstream media (MSM) are having a very hard
time with the Downing Street Memos (DSM). I know the corporate media are
not our friends, but I’m still stunned by the hostility the DSM seem to
arouse in (for want of a better word) journalists. It ranges from Frank
Rich, one of the good guys, who nevertheless needed to be told by Al
Franken that “conventional wisdom” aside, it still matters whether or not
Bush lied about ta! king the country to war. By the time Rich wrote his
latest New York Times column last Sunday, he had clearly returned to
consciousness, but his attitude is indicative of the air reporters have to
breathe, their unreal, hot-house reality. No one is immune to the
mind-altering effects of our experiment in neural media saturation, least
of all the practitioners of the art of mass thought control...

Even Bush's GOP Allies Are Breaking Ranks
Key party members are raising questions about the Iraq war
Robert Scheer, Los Angeles Times
..."Too often we've been told, and the American people have been told, that
we're at a turning point," said Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) on NBC's "Meet
the Press," as he disagreed with Cheney's absurd claim last week that the
Iraq insurgency is in its "last throes." "What the American people should
have been told and should be told [is that] it's long, it's hard, it's
toug! h." Sen. Chuck Hagel (R-Neb.), a member of the Foreign Relations
Committee, was even more blunt: "Things aren't getting better; they're
getting worse," he told U.S. News and World Report, as the latest suicide
bombings claimed the lives of dozens of Iraqis...

Will the U.S. Anti-War Movement Impeach Bush?
Virginia Rodino, CommonDreams.org
"Today is probably the happiest day of my life, since Casey's death." Cindy
Sheehan, founder of Gold Star Families for Peace, an advocacy group for
families of soldiers killed in Iraq, voiced her satisfaction at a June 16
"Presidential Accountability" rally which focused on the Downing Street
Memo and the crisis of the Bush Administration regarding its continued
occupation of Iraq. The rally followed a hearing led by Representative !
John Conyers, Jr., the ranking Democratic member of the House Judiciary
Committee and the Dean of the Congressional Black Caucus. The hearing
explored details of the "Downing Street Memo," the leaked British document
which shows that the Bush Administration planned the pre-emptive invasion
of Iraq as early as July 2002...

President Disconnect
The Bush Radio Address
Mike Whitney , CounterPunch
...The Iraqi people have a keen understanding of terrorists; at least
140,000 of them are occupying their country right now, plus a few
stragglers from Syria and Saudi Arabia. They've seen through the sham of
Bush's promises for liberation and democratization, and the American people
are not far behind. Despite Dick Cheney's delusional palavering that the
insurgency is in its "last throes"; the American mission is teetering in
Iraq a! nd no amount of presidential blather will set it straight. As
Nebraska Senator Chuck Hagel said, "Things aren't getting better; they're
getting worse. The White House is completely disconnected from reality.
It's like they're just making it up as they go along. The reality is we're
losing in Iraq"...

A War Waged by Liars and Morons
What is Bush's Agenda in Iraq?
PAUL CRAIG ROBERTS, CounterPunch
For what purpose has President Bush sent 1,741 US soldiers to be killed in
action in Iraq (as of June 19, 2005)? For what purpose have 15,000 - 38,000
US troops been wounded, many so seriously that they are maimed for life?
Why has the US government thrown away $300 billion in an illegal and
pointless war that cannot be won? These questions are beginning to
penetrate the consciousness of Americans, a majority! of whom no longer
support Bush's war...
