Al-Qaim Hospital: Tragedy beyond Description
Sabah Ali, BRussells Tribunal
..."The events began on May 2, 2005" Dr. Hamdi began his description of the
situation, "there was fierce fighting, the hospital became a battle field.
After 3 days of fighting and shelling on the hospital we decided to go to
an alternative one in the center of town. We gave first aid, blood
transfusions, nutritious solutions and medicines. We saved many lives in
very difficult circumstances. We were under huge pressure. The ambulances
move! ment was very limited, we could not do many operations, but we
managed to save many children. There were many casualties, the majority
civilians, tens of dead bodies, tens of the wounded"...

War preparations or how the media ‘disappeared’ the secret memo
William Bowles, I'n'I
...Yet with such incriminating evidence contained in the memo why hasn’t
the Brit media gone for the proverbial jugular? The reality is that aside
from the publication of the memo by the Sunday Times six weeks ago and
significantly only days before the General Election, there has been a
complete news blackout on the memo and its explosive contents. The BBC’s
Website contains just two stories on the memo (...) But as to th! e
critical substance of the memo, the BBC story simply ignores it. But this
is merely the beginning as the BBC has, since publishing this whitewash of
a story ignored this potentially explosive exposé of the lies told by
Blair, Straw, Hoon and co. So blatant is the lack of coverage that I
emailed the BBC’s head of News and asked why the story had not received the
attention it deserved and yesterday (9/6/05) received an (unsigned)
response (another, identical and also unsigned response was received today,
10/6/05, but from a different department)...

True to Form: Estimating the Trajectory of the US Body Proper
Adam Roufberg , Orbstandard.com
The Neo-conservative Administration which has taken over the White House
and the Pentagon, save Congress and the Judiciary - at least for the moment
- has made a slight miscalculation in their divisive plans for a Pax
Americana. Their major blunder - some might contend- was poor planning for
the Iraq war. Make no mistake, this was no mistake. Too few Troops from the
"Coalition of the Willing" were sent and a stabilized I! raq was never the
goal. The same could be said about an exit strategy. If you do not plan on
leaving the country you occupy you do not need an exit strategy. Rather,
you need enough cannon fodder and media oversight to perpetuate the
cultural, spiritual, and blood-lust rape of a nation- the peoples of which
understand occupation all to well...

Sure there’s Censorship of the News in America
Grace Reid
This morning Sheila, an Irishwoman, asked me why my eyes looked so tired
and my face so strained. I explained that I had been staying up all night
writing articles about a story that broke in the UK on the 20th of March,
but still hadn’t been reported in the US news by the first week in June.
“Sure, there’s censorship of the news in America, isn’t there?” she said.
“I mean, everybody knows that there are stories about the war in Iraq that
you can’t prin! t in America.” This came as the biggest news of the day to
me, that censorship of the news is a state policy...

Iraqi Resistance Report for events of Friday, 10 June 2005
Translated and/or compiled by Muhammad Abu Nasr, member, editorial board,
the Free Arab Voice. ( http://www.freearabvoice.org )
...Iraqi Resistance forces bombarded the US ‘Ayn al-Asad air base in the
city of Hit in western Iraq with seven rockets on Thursday. Witnesses in
the city told Mafkarat al-Islam that the barrage set fires blazing in the
northern part of the base and three explosions shook the eastern part of
the American-occupied facility. The ! correspondent was unable to get any
information on the extent of casualties and destruction in the base because
the US occupation forces had put the city of Hit under curfew during the
night making it impossible to venture out...

US War Crimes, An International Vow of Silence
Ghali Hassan, www.globalresearch.ca
...In addition to the mass killings of Iraqi civilians, U.S. forces
deliberately committed cultural genocide against Iraqi national heritage,
and Iraqi treasures. “Not even the Nazis would have allowed such crimes”,
wrote the Indian philosopher, Aijaz Ahmad. Ahmed added; “Every single
Article of the Geneva Convention and the U.N. Charter was violated, and a
whole range of war crimes committed, with impunity. Yet, not a single
membe! r of the so-called ‘international community’ has come forward to say
so: not Kofi Annan and his bureaucrats at the U.N., not the leaders of the
Franco-German alliance [for political opportunism] or any other member of
the Security Council, not the head of any Arab state” was able to whisper a
word of resistance. “The moral bankruptcy of the whole state system of the
world is there for all to see. This global complicity is what made the
invasion possible in the first place”, added Professor Ahmad...

State Sponsored Civil War
Dahr Jamail, Electronic Iraq
Yesterday at a conference in Baghdad, Abdul Aziz al-Hakim, a prominent Shia
leader who is also the head of the Supreme Council for the Islamic
Revolution in Iraq announced, "In gratitude to the efforts, sacrifices and
heroic positions of our brothers and brave sons from the Badr Organization"
(...) The Badr Organization (formerly known as the Badr Brigade) was formed
by al-Hakim's brother in the '80's to fight Saddam Hussein. It has long
since received fundin! g and other "support" from Iran. While civilians in
Fallujah, Mosul, Ramadi, Baquba, Baghdad, Haditha and other cities in Iraq
continue to complain of being beaten, looted and humiliated by the members
of the Iraqi Army who are members of both the Badr Organization and Kurdish
Peshmerga, these militias now have the overt backing of the interim Iraqi
"government"...

Roadside Bomb Kills Five Marines in Iraq
PAUL GARWOOD, Associated Press Writer
A roadside bomb killed five U.S. Marines during combat operations in
western Iraq, and the bodies of 21 Iraqis were found scattered in separate
locations near a town close to the Syrian border considered an insurgent
hotbed, officials and witnesses said Friday. The Marines were killed
Thursday while conducting combat operations near the town of Haqlaniyah, 90
miles north of Baghdad, in volatile Anbar province, the military said in a

The occupiers will lose in Iraq
Luc Debieuvre, Special to Gulf News
America's military mission [in Iraq] has become impossible to succeed in,"
the London-based International Institute of Strategic Studies has just
written. The dramatic situation in Iraq is, indeed, well known. On the
military side, violence goes on unabated. More than a thousand people were
killed during the first three months of the year. Insurgents may split
between various factions but are able to team up in many cases...

U.S. Army slips further behind recruiting goals
Will Dunham, Reuters
The U.S. Army has slipped further behind its recruiting goals amid the Iraq
war, figures released on Friday showed, as officials developed proposals to
double cash bonuses and offer mortgage aid for enlisting. The Army hopes to
raise the maximum cash bonus for new recruits to $40,000 and begin a pilot
program to give up to $50,000 in home-mortgage assistance to people who
volunteer for eight years of active-duty service, said Lt. Col. Thomas Co!
llins, an Army spokesman...

The Killing of Nicola Calipari and U.S. Military Deception
Dr. Richard Marsden, The Business of Emotions
Late Friday evening, March 4th, 2005, news reports began circulating
concerning the death in Iraq of an Italian secret service agent and the
wounding of the hostage whose release he had just help secure. It
transpired that the vehicle, in which they were travelling, en route to
Baghdad Airport, came under fire from a platoon of U.S. soldiers (...)
Almost three months later, Major General Calipari’s death and t! he
wounding of Ms Sgrena and Major Carpani are the few concrete facts of the
attack. The U.S. military insists that this was an ‘unfortunate incident’,
the result, they argue, of the driver approaching a road-block with
reckless speed, causing the platoon’s machine-gunner to take defensive
action (...) These are grounds for subjecting the U.S. Report to a
comprehensive and systematic critique. This is my aim in this document...

The Downing Street Memo Reveals Blood on the Hands of Our Complicit
Corporate Media and the Hijacking of Our Collective Fear
Anthony Wade, www.OpEdNews.com
...How much will be enough America? How many more lies will you tolerate
from a media that is in the pocket of this President? This is not about
party or even politics. It is about human decency in an age lapsing
dangerously into moral corrosion. This is not about patriotism; it is about
our collective civilization as we see the decay of society based on greed!
and corporate dominance. It is about the legacy we leave to our children
and how history will view what we did as a people to respond to such
egregious violations of basic humanity...

Psychological Warfare Effort to be Outsourced
Army command hires three firms to sway Afghans and Iraqis
James W Crawley, Richmond Times-Dispatch (Virginia)
The U.S. Special Operations Command has hired three firms to produce
newspaper stories, television broadcasts and Web sites to spread American
propaganda overseas. The Tampa-based military headquarters, which oversees
commandos and psychological warfare, may spend up to $100 million for the
media campaign in the next five years. In this age ! of the Internet and
instant access, it's of great concern. If you plant false stories, how can
you control where that story goes? You can't...

Saddam lawyers 'may quit'
Abdul Jalil Mustafa
The chief lawyer for Saddam Hussein issued an impassioned appeal on Friday
to the world's law bodies for help to pressure the Iraqi tribunal to supply
the Amman-based legal panel with any documents needed to defend the former
Iraqi leader. Ziyad Khasawneh also warned that if the Iraqi tribunal
continued to keep his team in the dark, the panel could be obliged to
"quit" the assignment. Khasawneh said: "So far, the special Iraqi court has
insisted on keeping us in com! plete blackout by failing to provide us with
any document regarding the charges levelled against the president or the
outcome of investigations conducted with him"...

Phil Sands
A senior US military chief has admitted "good, honest" Iraqis are fighting
American forces. Major General Joseph Taluto said he could understand why
some ordinary people would take up arms against the US military because
"they're offended by our presence". In an interview with Gulf News, he
said: "If a good, honest person feels having all these Humvees driving on

In July 2002, Bush Illegally Shifted $700 Million to Begin War on Iraq
A BUZZFLASH NEWS ANALYSIS
Repeat after me... "no decision was made to go to war by July 2002...no
decision was made by 2002..." Woodward said he found that the
administration quietly shifted money around to pay for early preparations
for war in Iraq, without the approval of Congress. He said those
preparations included building landing strips and addressing other military
needs in Kuwait. The money, about $700 million, was taken in July 200! 2
from a budget item that had been approved for the war in Afghanistan,

"How does it feel to be a big, rich contractor now?"
Imad Khadduri , Free Iraq
...A group of American security guards in Iraq have alleged they were
beaten, stripped and threatened with a snarling dog by US marines when they
were detained after an alleged shooting incident outside Falluja last month.
"I never in my career have treated anybody so inhumane," one of the
contractors, Rick Blanchard, a former Florida state trooper, wrote in an
email quoted in the Los Angeles Times. "They treated us like insurgents,
roughed us up, took photos, hazed [bullied] us, called us names...

LEST WE FORGET
Malcom Lagauche
We have been reading a lot lately about the desecration of a Quran at
Guantanamo prison camp in Cuba. The U.S. administration feigns shock at
such an incident and says it will never happen again. Then, it says it
never happened. A hot debate is raging about the incident. How blind can
people be? This debate is nothing more than a smokescreen to divert
attention from the thousands of Iraqi and Afghan prisoners who are being
tortured daily. And, the thousands of Iraqi civilians whose ! houses are
being ransacked by both U.S. and Iraqi forces. When the Abu Ghraib torture
became public, many people were aghast. But, that subject quickly left the
headlines of U.S. newspapers. Let me refresh your memory of torture at Abu
Ghraib; torture that is so despicable that it sounds incredulous to even
those who are warmongers...
