Abu Musab al-Zarqawi in Syria: More Black Propaganda from the Bush Lie Factory
Kurt Nimmo, Another Day in the Empire
As a primary example of how the corporate media unquestioningly snaps up
Pentagon disinformation, deliberately created as a form of psychological
warfare against the American people, consider the following by Paul Garwood
of the Associated Press: The leaders of Iraq's most notorious terrorist
group recently held a secret meeting in neighboring Syria, where they
plotted the recent wave of insurge! nt violence that has killed hundreds of
people and was intended to break the postelection lull in violence… How do
Mr. Garwood and the Associated Press know this? Well, a "top U.S. military
official" told him, in other words Bush's Pentagon, the very epicenter of
so many lies about Iraq and Saddam Hussein, passed the above bit of
nonsense off as news to a mostly gullible American news consumer...

Is The USA Is Addicted To War?
First Consider The Evidence, Then Draw Your Own Conclusions
Evan Augustine Peterson III, J.D. , Orb Standard
Let us consider the possibility that the USA has become addicted, in an
economic sense, to war. While the evidence offered below is by no means
exhaustive, it is directly relevant and highly probative. Therefore, the
reader should consider ALL of the evidence in Exhibits A through D before
judging whether or not a prima facie case has been made that America is
economical! ly addicted to war...

London Times Calls Fallujans Psychiatric Patients
Fintan Dunne, Editor, BreakForNews.com
There are soome pretty strange views in a new feature article by Richard
Beeston on the plight of blitzed former residents of Fallujah. Writing for
the Times of London, he equates the U.S. slaughter and destruction of the
city with a clinical lobotomy, and describes the former residents as
'violent psychiatric' patients. Beeston also implies that the 'lobotomy has
been a success. He writes how the once "arrogant citizens" of ! Fallujah
now "stop meekly" to let the US military pass...

Patriarch denounces U.S. evangelicals in Iraq
Tom Heneghan, Religion Editor, Reuters
The head of Iraq's largest Christian community denounced American
evangelical missionaries in his country on Thursday for what he said were
attempts to convert poor Muslims by flashing money and smart cars.
Patriarch Emmanuel Delly, head of the Chaldean Catholic Church, told
journalists that many Protestant activists had come to Iraq after the
overthrow of Saddam Hussein in 2003 and set up what he called "boutiques"
to attract c! onverts...

Cowardice in Journalism Award for Newsweek
Goebbels Award for Condi
Greg Palast
"It's appalling that this story got out there," Secretary of State
Condoleezza Rice said on her way back from Iraq. What's not appalling to
Condi is that the US is holding prisoners at Guantanamo under conditions
termed "torture" by the Red Cross. What's not appalling to Condi is that
prisoners of the Afghan war are held in violation of international law
after that conflict has supposedly ended. What is not a! ppalling to Condi
is that prisoner witnesses have reported several instances of the Koran's
desecration. What is appalling to her is that these things were reported.
So to Condi goes to the Joseph Goebbels Ministry of Propaganda Iron Cross...

The ideology of ignorance
P.M. Carpenter
...Just as familiar is this chestnut: "The US army [is] also too thin on
the ground." Again, the difference between the Iraq situation and Vietnam
is one without a distinction. True, in Iraq, Washington never planned
enough troops. So we're losing. In Vietnam the brass was forever citing a
precise number of troops to achieve victory, which Washington gave them. We
still lost. The old right -- the neocons' predecessors -- concocted the
myth that Washington starved the milit! ary in Vietnam and that was the
reason we lost. But the fact is, there are never enough troops to occupy a
nation that doesn't want to be occupied...

Torture, Illegal Detention and Murder
NJ Civil Rights Defense Committee
The New Jersey Civil Rights Defense Committee announced that it had
indicted President George W. Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney, former
President William J. Clinton and other high government officials for
violations of Federal and State laws ranging from Deprivation of Civil
Rights to War Crimes, Torture and Murder. "We are making this indictment
and we are demanding that! these individuals be officially indicted by a
Grand Jury for these crimes, and stand trial for them." said Eric Lerner, a
member of NJCRDC. "We have demonstrated that there is more than enough
evidence to show the 'probable cause' needed for these indictments. The
justice system must begin to bring these powerful criminals to justice"...

Australian defence adviser 'sacked for refusing to sex up WMD reports'
David Fickling, The Guardian
A former senior Australian defence adviser claimed yesterday she was edged
out of her job because she refused to lie about the case for war in Iraq.
Jane Errey, a former adviser to Australia's chief defence scientist working
in the department's science and technology organisation, said she had been
sacked after taking leave because of her refusal to mislead the public. "I
felt like I was part of the propaganda mach! ine," she said...

George Galloway's Lesson in Speaking Truth to Power
Michael Keefer, www.globalresearch.ca
George Galloway, the British parliamentarian who was drummed out of Tony
Blair's Labour Party in 2003 for his principled opposition to the American
and British aggression against Iraq, and for his unrelenting willingness to
publicly call prime-ministerial and presidential lies and war crimes by
their proper names, has had copious experience of being libeled and
slandered in return. In the immediate aftermath of the 1991 Gulf! War,
Galloway spoke out against the deliberate and intentional targeting of
Iraq's civilian infrastructure—of power stations and of water and sewage
treatment facilities especially—by the cruise missiles and bomber aircraft
of the U.S.-led coalition...

Ramsey Clark says Saddam trial unfair
UPI
Former U.S. Attorney General Ramsey Clark says ousted Iraqi President
Saddam Hussein and his top aides are not getting a fair trial. Clark, a
member of the committee for defending Saddam, was quoted Thursday in the
Saudi daily al-Watan as calling the special court set up to handle Saddam's
case "illegitimate and non-human." He noted Saddam was prevented from
defending himself, a privilege usually allotted under international law
(...) Clark also lashed out at the Bush ad! ministration, accusing it of
committing "the ugliest crimes against humanity in Iraq"...

Guild Chief Under Fire for Comments About Attacks on Journalists in Iraq
Joe Strupp
Linda Foley, national president of The Newspaper Guild, drew strong
criticism today from some conservative groups for comments she made last
Friday about the killing of journalists in Iraq. Foley said, among other
things, that she was angry that there was "not more outrage about the
number and the brutality, and the cavalier nature of the U.S. military
toward the killing of journalists in Iraq. I think it's just a scandal"...

The lies that led to war
Juan Cole, Salon.com
... And we now know, thanks to a leaked British memo concerning the head of
British intelligence, that the Bush administration -- contrary to its
explicit denials -- had already made up its mind to attack Iraq and "fixed"
those bogus allegations to support its decision. In short, Bush and his top
officials lied about Iraq (...) The media circus around the Newsweek story
arrived in time to further divert attention from the explosive British
memorandum. Although the lea! ked Downing Street memo, published by the
London Times on May 1, revealed the deeply dishonest and manipulative way
that the Bush administration took the United States (and the United
Kingdom) to war against Iraq, the American press corps studiously ignored
it for two weeks...

An Open Letter to Democrats
Listen to Galloway and Learn Something
STAN GOFF, CounterPunch
Dear Democratic Elected Officials of the United States (with damn few
exceptions), I am writing this open letter to call your attention to the
remarks made day before yesterday, May 17, 2005, to the United States
Senate, by British MP George Galloway of the independent Respect Party. I
do this because he serves as an example of why your party should be
abandoned by the U.S. working class, by U.S. women, by oppres! sed
nationalities in the United States, and by anyone who professes to be a
progressive or a leftist...

Hundreds of journalists, members of the Arab community and supporters call
for the release of three Romanian journalists and their translator

U.S. Claims Over Siege Challenged
Dahr Jamail, Inter Press Service
As with the siege of Fallujah six months back, U.S. claims over the siege
of the Iraqi town Al Qa'im are being challenged now by independent sources.
The U.S. military claims a "successful" end to the weeklong operation
earlier this month around Al-Qa'im, a town about 320km west of Baghdad
close to the Syrian border. The operation was launched against what the
U.S. military saw as the presence of Al-Qaeda fighters in the town. Iraqi
civilians and ! doctors in the area say no foreign fighters were present in
the town. Al Qa'im and surrounding areas have suffered great destruction,
and many in the town population of 110,000 were killed, they say...

"Democracy" in Iraq
Dahr Jamail
I neither read nor listen to corporate media drivel concerning Iraq...but
today I wonder what they could possibly be saying to justify the failed
occupation of Iraq on this horrible day. I also wonder how people in
America have yet to take the appropriate action necessary in order to force
their government to impeach Bush and bring him and his regime to justice
for the countless war crimes they have committed in Iraq...

Path of faith: Andijan massacre a clarion call to Uzbek Muslims
Simon Jones
The dust may be settling in Andijan after the recent uprising against
Uzbekistan's brutal, corrupt dictatorship, but the implications of this
heroic and tragic episode will haunt the regime until it falls. The
blocking of all foreign TV news and internet news sites for more than a
week already will not stop the word of the hundreds of innocent deaths, the
firing on peaceful demonstrators from a helicopter, the truck full of
trigger-happy ! soldiers which ploughed into the crowd not once but three
times, murdering people who could no longer tolerate the vileness of their
government and who had no other option...

Iraqi Resistance Report for events of Wednesday, 18 May 2005
Translated and/or compiled by Muhammad Abu Nasr, member, editorial board,
the Free Arab Voice. http://www.freearabvoice.org
...An Iraqi Resistance bomb exploded by a column of US foot soldiers in the
middle of the town of al-Iskandariyah, south of Baghdad at 1pm local time
Wednesday (...) Afterwards, US forces encircled the whole area and imposed
a curfew, sealing the streets. The then launched a ferocious wave of
arrests of local people in which 11 Su! nni residents were hauled out of
their homes. The homes of Shi'ah residents were not subjected to search by
the American invaders, who are intent on stirring up sectarian divisions
among Iraqis in a desperate bid to "divide and rule" the country...

U.S. Offensive Causes Humanitarian Crisis, Nets Few Rebels
Chris Shumway, The NewStandard.
US military commanders were quick to declare victory after a massive,
weeklong offensive that involved air and ground attacks against villages in
Western Iraq, saying that marines had "neutralized" an important haven for
insurgents in the region. But local residents, doctors and relief agencies
described something more akin to a humanitarian disaster, saying the
campaign killed dozens of people, displaced thousands more -- ! leaving
many without adequate food, shelter or water -- and flattened scores of
buildings...
