Paul Wolfowitz: Strausscon Banker
Kurt Nimmo
...Indeed, "over time" Wolfowitz will be an ideal president of the World
Bank because predatory capitalism is now entering a no-nonsense phase of
military belligerence as finite natural resources reach their depletion
rates and rich people scramble to make as much money as possible on them.
Strausscon banker is not a stretch because the banks and international
financial corporations play an important role in piranha capitalism—and
increasingly that role is violent and ! bloodthirsty as it sets about
cashing in what is left of oil, lumber, minerals, water, and human labor...

Independent Media: Enemy Target
Ghali Hassan
Since the start of the 2003 War on Iraq, there have been 13 incidents
involving the killing of journalists by US soldiers. All the journalists
who have been killed were "unembedded" journalists. No journalist employed
by mainstream media such as the BBC or CNN have been killed or abducted in
Iraq. Independent media worldwide are finding it difficult to exist in a
world controlled by few large corporations and government's controlled
public broadcasters. Information pro! vided by independent media and honest
journalists, is the most powerful weapon in the War on Iraq since 1990...

Poison DUst
International Action Center
During the current Iraq War the U.S. use of radioactive DU weapons
increased from 375 tons used in 1991 to 2200 tons. Geiger counter readings
at sites in downtown Baghdad record radiation levels 1,000 and 2,000 times
higher than background radiation. The Pentagon has bombed, occupied,
tortured and contaminated Iraq. Millions of Iraqis are affected. Over one
million U.S. soldiers have rotated into Iraq. Today, half of the 697,000
U.S. Gulf War troops from the 1991 war have r! eported serious medical
problems and a significant increase in birth defects among their newborn
children...

Torture and terror American-style
SHARON SMITH, Socialist Worker
ON MARCH 1, Dr. Khalid ash-Shaykhli of Iraq's Ministry of Health made a
startling revelation at a Baghdad press conference: U.S. forces used
mustard gas, nerve gas and other burning chemical weapons against Iraqi
civilians in their November assault on the city of Falluja. Ash-Shaykhli
added, "[A]ll forms of nature were wiped out in that city. I can even say
that we found dozens, not to say hundreds, of stray dogs, cats and birds
that had perished as! a result of those gasses." Yet only Arab journalists
were present to report this news, which has yet to appear in the mainstream
U.S. media...

Chris Harrison of Iraq Veterans Against the War:
"Their wars are for conquest"
Socialist Worker
CHRIS HARRISON is a member of Iraq Veterans Against the War (IVAW), and he
co-founded Peace-Out, an organization that helps military personnel learn
their options in gaining conscientious objector status. He is also on the
steering committee of the national antiwar coalition United for Peace and
Justice. A former first lieutenant in the Army, he filed for conscientious
objector status at the end of 2002. His appl! ication was still pending
when he was discharged last September. Chris talked to Socialist Worker's
HADAS THIER about his experiences in the military and the future of the
antiwar movement...

How Sgrena forced Italy's withdrawal from Iraq
Mike Whitney
The day after the Italian journalist Giuliana Sgrena was nearly killed at
an Iraqi checkpoint; PBS's anchor Margaret Warner revealed a clue on
national TV that has received little or no notice. Warner acknowledged that
the checkpoint where Sgrena was shot was set up just 45 minutes prior to
the arrival of the vehicle. 45 minutes earlier? Why?...

Wolfowitz at the World Bank
Jude Wanniski
If you really don't know what the "World Bank" is all about, you would
think that President Bush was joking in nominating Paul Wolfowitz to be the
new president of the Bank, replacing Jim Wolfensohn. One of the chief
architects of the Iraq war, Wolfowitz is a political theorist, a
61-year-old man who spent most of his adult life at blackboards and
lecterns teaching students about international politics. He may know how to
operate an Automatic Teller Machine when in need o! f ready cash, but he
knows absolutely nothing about banking...

Iraq, Macquarie Fields and Australia's "History Wars"
Nick Beams, WSWS
...The Iraq war marked a decisive turning point in post-war politics
because it overturned the doctrine that had been at the centre of
international relations since World War II. That is, the doctrine
established in the Nuremberg Trials of the Nazi war criminals, which
insisted that the crime of the Nazis, from which all their other crimes
flowed, was to launch a war of aggression. That was true not just in a
juridical, but in the political se! nse, and the same truth holds today.
The war in Iraq is the source, the origin, of all the other crimes that
have followed. And they have followed thick and fast...

This President Is Right Indeed
Anwaar Hussain
...America, without a doubt, has been very busy in the pursuit of this
ideal in the period the President mentions. She is estimated to have gone
to war in no less than 23, some say 67, places on the globe since WW II. In
the great liberating tradition, the United States has, by some estimates,
dropped over a hundred million tons of bombs on foreign lands over the last
50 years, bringing freedom to millions of innocent human beings from the
clutches of their wretched e! xistences. For some reason, not necessarily
oily ones, the Iraqis have been favorite candidates of this great
liberating tradition. The benevolent sequence of bombs-sanctions-bombs has,
thus, brought an enduring freedom to just about 1.5 million Iraqis, around
50% of whom were Iraqi children less than 5 years old...

Giuliana Sgrena Shooting: 'Trigger-Happy' Troops or Attempted Assassination?
Ritt Goldstein, www.globalresearch.ca
"They knew an Italian car was coming", said senior Il Manifesto editor
Roberto Zanini, speaking to me from the Rome headquarters of recently
released hostage Giuliana Sgrena's paper. But nevertheless, a fateful
barrage fired by US forces at Baghdad airport hit the vehicle carrying the
Italian journalist to her flight home. And much of the globe is asking,
'why?'...

More Than 100 Die in U.S. Custody in Iraq
JOHN J. LUMPKIN, Associated Press Writer
At least 108 people have died in U.S. custody in the Iraq and Afghanistan
wars, and roughly a quarter of the cases have been investigated as possible
U.S. abuse, according to government data provided to The Associated Press.
The figure, far higher than any previously disclosed, includes cases
investigated by the Army, Navy, Central Intelligence Agency and Justice
Department. Some 65,000 prisoners have been taken during the U.S.-led!
wars, most later freed...

Although January 7 U.S.-led offensive in Fallujah, where more than 2,000
people were killed and thousands were made homeless, is still in people's

breaking point. No confession under a regime of torture, terror, or
coercion is legitimate...

Limbaugh mischaracterized NY Times report on looting at Iraq weapons facilities
Media Matters for America
In an attempt to vindicate President Bush's claim that Iraq possessed
weapons of mass destruction prior to the U.S.-led invasion, nationally
syndicated radio host Rush Limbaugh mischaracterized a March 13 New York
Times article documenting the systematic looting of Iraqi weapons
facilities that occurred shortly after the invasion. On the March 14
edition of The Rush Limbaugh Show, Limbaugh declared that "The ! New York
Times reports that there were horrible weapons in Iraq and they got
secreted out of there after we invaded"...

Army documents raise fresh concerns of abuse by Navy SEALs
SETH HETTENA, Associated Press Writer
Newly released Army documents suggest that soldiers at a makeshift Iraqi
detention camp suspected that detainees were being mistreated by a Navy
SEAL team whose members were photographed posing with bloodied prisoners.
Two Army interrogators said they were concerned about the way members of
SEAL Team Five were treating prisoners, according to documents obtained by
the American Civil Liberties Union. Some of the prison! ers brought in by
the SEALs ``appeared to be very severely beaten,'' an unnamed Army staff
sergeant told investigators last year...

Whistleblower Stoffel assassinated?

States?
That was alleged in a story published by The Los Angeles Times and printed
in today's edition of the Greensburg Tribune-Review (...) Stoffel was shot
shortly after he raised concerns of possible kickbacks being funneled from
a middleman to Iraqi Defense Ministry officials, The California newspaper

The implications of the looting of Iraq's weapons plants
Walter C. Uhler
...It's in this context that America's failure to protect Iraq's weapons
installations from looters takes on special significance. For if the Bush
administration was genuinely concerned about Iraq's WMD or potential to
manufacture WMD, one of its highest priorities would have been to secure
the weapons plants before any equipment fell into the hands of terrorists.
Such negligence is an important piece of behavioral evidence demonstrating
tha! t WMD was simply a pretext for "taking out" Saddam...

GEORGE W. BUSH'S BLURRED VISION FOR AMERICA
A TvNewsLIES Diagnosis
...George W. Bush, with the support of his handlers and sycophants in the
corporate media, creates his own truths. Facts and supportive evidence are
irrelevant. He sees through the blur of a Divine inspiration that
supersedes historical precedent and Constitutional law. He sees through a
psychedelic prism of corporate profits and religious fervor, and he
ultimately believes his own myths. It is time to confront the farce....
