"Falluja was wiped out"
International Action Center
...We have innumerable pictures and also films, on which you can see who
was killed in Falluja. I invite everyone to come into our city and to make
their own picture of the situation. I will bring you together with children
who had to watch their parents being shot by Americans. And I will bring
you together with men who saw how their children and their wives were
killed. There was and there still is resistance in Iraq and also in
Falluja. The resistance against! the occupation is legitimate and
corresponds to international conventions. It is not however by any means
legal to bombard civilians. That is permitted neither to the Americans nor
to opponents of the occupation. Many Iraqis are the opinion that the
attacks on civilians are not the responsibility of the resistance, but that
in the long run the Americans and the secret services of the neighboring
countries are behind them...

Pulitzer winner Hersh gives skeptical outlook on Iraq
Mary-Catherine Lader
...Hersh's current outlook for Iraq was particularly negative. "We're at a
point where we're almost dealing with willful malfeasance," Hersh said. "If
there's salvation it won't be anything that any of us do, it'll be the
boots on the ground." He suggested the situation might deteriorate into
civil war and said the description of those opposing U.S. forces as
"rebels" or "insurgents" is misleading. "We use the word rebels,
insinuating we w! on the war," Hersh said. "But we're fighting a war
against people we went to war against (in the first place) - it just turned
out they didn't fight the war in the same time scale we did"...

Giustizia per Nicola Calipari
Domenico Gallo, Megachip
...In particolare l'art.
procedimento...

Made--4--T.V. Revolutions
Raed Jarrar, Raed in the Middle
...The re-appointment of Karami is hilarious and shameful defeat for the US
illegal foreign policy. Yet, it doesn't mean that the bush administration
cannot change this again, we shouldn't forget that the one with bigger
tanks, stronger fighters, and WMDs will win the war at the end. The real
question is what happens AFTER winning the illegal wars? What is happening
in Iraq after more than a month and a half of the sham early elections?
What is happening a! fter two years of the illegal occupation? What will
happen when the US-made clerics start clashing with the occupiers?...

CONTINUANO LE TORTURE AI PRIGIONIERI DA PARTE DEGLI STATI UNITI
Granma Internacional, www.resistenze.org
Il quotidiano The Washington Post denuncia oggi che, a dispetto dello
scandalo delle torture ai prigionieri iracheni nella prigione di Abu
Ghraib, gli Stati Uniti continuano coi maltrattamenti ai detenuti
d'oltremare (...)

Invisible militias in Iraq
William S. Lind, Outside View Commentator
...The proliferation of militias points to another fact about the war in
Iraq: It is increasingly taking on the nature of a civil war. In the Fourth
Generation stew of militias, gangs, groups of insurgents and so on, some
fault lines seem to be emerging. The new militias are largely Shiite (the
Kurds have an old and very capable militia, the Peshmerga), they are
aligned loosely in support of Iraq's new Shiite-dominated government, but
they are n! ot controlled by that government. And their main purpose is to
fight the insurgents, who are Sunnis. It is fairly clear where this script
is heading...

The invisible wounded.
Injured soldiers evacuated to the U.S. never arrive in the light of day --
and the Pentagon has yet to offer a satisfactory explanation why
Mark Benjamin, Salon.com
...It's widely known that on the eve of the Iraq invasion in 2003, the Bush
administration moved to defy the math and enforced a ban on photographs of
the caskets arriving at Dover, or at any other military bases. But few
realize that it seems to be pursuing the same strategy with the wounded,
who are far mor! e numerous. Since 9/11, the Pentagon's Transportation
Command has medevaced 24,772 patients from battlefields, mostly from Iraq.
But two years after the invasion of Iraq, images of wounded troops arriving
in the United States are almost as hard to find as pictures of caskets from
Dover. That's because all the transport is done literally in the dark, and
in most cases, photos are banned (...)
A Salon investigation has found that flights carrying the wounded arrive in
the United States only at night...

After the War Comes Cancer
Jürgen Hanefeld
Information collected for a German project investigating the use of
uranium-charged ammunition in Iraq shows that when Iraqi women fear for
their children's health, it is with good reason. After two wars where oil
wells were torched, chemical factories bombed and radioactive ammunition
fired, the first thing Iraqi women ask when giving birth is not if it is a
boy or a girl, but if it is normal or deformed. The number of cancer cases
and children born with deformities has! skyrocketed after the two Gulf
Wars...

Embedded Dutch Journo Disses Giuliana Sgrena
Kurt Nimmo
I found the following post linked on the Little Green Footballs (LGF) blog.
It is sincerely instructive to visit the LFG blog because it demonstrates
precisely how wrong and pig-headed the far right is in this country. LFG
characterizes Giuliana Sgrena "and her companions as the very epitome of
the modern clueless far left, simultaneously naive and filled with hatred,
childish and treacherous." LFG writes this because Sgrena was kidnapped and
assumes this ki! dnapping was done by the resistance, when in fact this
makes absolutely no sense...

Chalabi for the Nobel Peace Prize...
Baghdad Burning, Girl Blog from Iraq...
...I got an interesting email today telling me about an internet petition
to nominate Sistani, of all people, for the Nobel Peace Prize. That had me
laughing and a little bit incredulous. Why should Sistani get the Nobel
Peace Prize? Because he urged his followers to vote for a list that wants
to implement an Iranian-styled government in Iraq? Is that what the Nobel
Peace Prize has come to? (...) If ANYONE should get the Nobel Peace Priz!
e, it should be my favorite Puppet- Ahmed Chalabi. No, really- stop
laughing...

"Sacrifices," the Cost of War and "War-Resistance" in the Ranks
Jack Dalton, Project for the OLD American Century
This March 19th is the two year "anniversary" of the Bush and Company war
of choice in Iraq. To put it another way, it's the anniversary of the
unleashing of war in "perpetuity" or, as Gore Vidal aptly named it,
"Perpetual War for Perpetual Peace." For six months prior to the invasion
of Iraq, and subsequent occupation, if not longer, George W. Bush, Dick
Cheney, Condi Rice, Donald Rumsfeld, et al, co! nducted a "marketing
campaign" to sell their "product" with all the fervor of a corporation
introducing a "new" product or brand. The "product" (invading Iraq) was
then "bought" by a serious majority of the American people and the BushCo
juggernaught was unleashed upon Iraq--to the chagrin of most the other
nations of the world--as well as a large number of us in this country, who
still need to mobilize into a more cohesive whole...

Giuliana Sgrena and Eason Jordan.
US troops did target journalists!
Jason Kernahan, Online Journal Contributing Writer
...The accusation of US military attacks on journalists is not a new one.
And the forgetful corporate media would be well advised to reconsider the
pillorying of Eason Jordan just mere weeks earlier. Eason Jordan is a CNN
executive who recently accused US troops of deliberately attacking and
killing no less that 12 journalists in Iraq. The ensuing furor resisted his
dubious retractions, and ! within two weeks he had resigned his position at
the network...

Saddam Denied Basic Right to Fair Trial
Greg Szymanski, American Free Press
...Doebbler, an American citizen and respected human rights attorney, has
been hired by Saddam's family to represent the former dictator. He is one
of the lead attorneys in an international group numbering more than 20, who
are trying to piece together a defense even though the prosecution has
never officially presented charges (...)"Many of my colleagues around the
world as well as in the United States respect the fact that every individ!
ual has the right to legal representation and the right to a fair trial,"
he said. "Unfortunately, I have received both explicit and implicit threats
from members of the U.S. military and some other individuals who do not
understand this. I have also been several times harassed by the Israeli
immigration and IDF authorities who do not like my work either as the
representative of Mr. Saddam Hussein or as a professor of law at An-Najah
National University in Palestine"...

Gonzales Defends Transfer of Detainees
R. Jeffrey Smith, The Washington Post - t r u t h o u t
Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales yesterday defended the practice of
"extraordinary rendition," the process under which the United States
sometimes transfers detainees in the war on terrorism to other nations
where they may undergo harsh interrogation, trial or imprisonment. The
government has not said how many detainees have been transferred and has
not articulated the precise legal basis for the practice, but the !
persistence of such transfers has been demonstrated by frequent flights of
a plane the intelligence community uses to transport the prisoners...

Security forces find 41 corpses in Iraq
30 American contractors injured in suicide bombing near hotel
Associated Press
raqi officials said today that 41 bodies — some bullet-riddled, others
beheaded — have been found at two sites, and they believe some of the
corpses are Iraqi soldiers kidnapped and killed by insurgents. At least 30
American contractors, meanwhile, were wounded by a suicide bombing near a
hotel. In another attack, interim Planning Minister Mahdi al-Hafidh escaped
assassinatio! n after gunmen opened fire on his convoy in Baghdad. One of
his guards was killed and two others were wounded, police said...

American Hitler
DOUG THOMPSON
A cancer infects this country, spreading like wildfire, devouring the flesh
of our society and threatening to turn what was once the greatest nation on
Earth into a rotting corpse of political corruption, greed and abuse of
power. This cancer has a name: George W. Bush (...) They've lied to the
American people, cheated on the principles established by our forefathers
and brought disgrace to this nation on the world stage. International
respect for America is at all all-time low, tha! nks to an Iraq war based
on lies and arrogance without limits. Like Hitler, Bush may well go down in
history as a mass-murderer. Nobody knows for sure how many innocent Iraqis
have died at American hands because the Pentagon hides those figures but
the number grows every day. Hell, an Italian hostage negotiator can't even
try to bring back someone from their country without getting gunned down by
American troops in Iraq.

Public version of Saddam capture fiction
UPI
A former U.S. Marine who participated in capturing ousted Iraqi President
Saddam Hussein said the public version of his capture was fabricated.
Ex-Sgt.Nadim Abou Rabeh, of Lebanese descent, was quoted in the Saudi daily
al-Medina Wednesday as saying Saddam was actually captured Friday, Dec. 12,
2003, and not the day after, as announced by the U.S. Army. "I was among
the 20-man unit, including eight of Arab descent, who searched for Saddam
for three days in the area of ! Dour near Tikrit, and we found him in a
modest home in a small village and not in a hole as announced," Abou Rabeh
said. "We captured him after fierce resistance during which a Marine of
Sudanese origin was killed," he said...

Halliburton operates in Iran despite sanctions
Lisa Myers & the NBC investigative unit
It's just another Halliburton oil and gas operation. The company name is
emblazoned everywhere: On trucks, equipment, large storage silos and
workers' uniforms. But this isn't Texas. It's Iran. U.S. companies aren't
supposed to do business here. Yet, in January, Halliburton won a contract
to drill at a huge Iranian gas field called Pars, which an Iranian
government spokesman said "served the interests" of Iran...

Recruiting Iraq Vets Against the War
Lou Plummer, ZNet
Why pick a military town as the site for an antiwar rally? As a veteran and
a resident of Fayetteville, N.C. near Ft. Bragg, I can think of at least 50
reasons. Each of those reasons has a name and each were members of our
community prior to their deaths in Iraq. Some may argue that voicing
opposition to war in a military town is somehow disrespectful. Tell that to
the military families and veterans from many wars, including the current
one, who plan to gath! er here on March 19, the second anniversary of the
invasion of Iraq...
