INCORE - International Conflict Research - is an international centre for excellence for peace and conflict research, based at the University of Ulster and affiliated to the United Nations University. INCORE addresses the causes and consequences of conflict in Northern Ireland and internationally and promotes conflict resolution management strategies. It aims to influence policymakers and practitioners involved in peace, conflict and reconciliation issues while enhancing the nature of international conflict research. New Publications Mind the Gap: Policy Development and Research on Conflict Issues looks at the role of academic research in peace and conflict in influencing policy makers involved in preventing or resolving conflict. The report outlines conceptual issues and practical requirements surrounding use of research by western policymakers, and gives an analysis of how and why the researcher-policymaker relationship has been generally unproductive in terms of policy influence. The report concludes with a breakdown of suggested methodologies for bettering the policy relevance of peace and conflict research, as well as means of getting research to policymakers in a relevant format. See http://www.incore.ulster.ac.uk/policy/rip/ New Associated Institute - Centre for Young Men's Studies The recently-established Centre for Young Men's Studies is the latest research/practice institute to form an association with INCORE as part of our role as co-ordinating body for peace and conflict work across the University of Ulster. Co-directed by Dr. Ken Harland and Sam McCready, the Centre will promote a culture of learning, development and excellence in regard to young men living in Northern Ireland through innovative practice, training and action research, based on the reality that Northern Ireland is a society in transition emerging from a period of prolonged violence. In many communities young men are caught up in this transition but have not been equipped to manage or cope with change.
