DA NICK BERG A GIULIANA SGRENA:
DATI, IPOTESI E…AVVOLTOI
Fulvio Grimaldi, Mondocane fuorilinea

avessero avuto luogo in Zimbabwe, l'occidente ne avrebbe denunciato
l'irregolarità»
Davide Pestieau e Mohammed Hassan, www.resistenze.org
partiti pro-occupazione.! I networks sono stati autorizzati a filmare 5
seggi elettorali in tutto l'Irak. Quattro dei cinque si trovava nelle
regioni a maggioranza sciita del Sud, dove la partecipazione era maggiore...

The BBC: 'Ace'? propagandist for the Imperium
William Bowles
...So whilst all 299 BBC stories (over 300,000 words in total) that mention
Zarqawi hold not a single piece of evidence as to his real as opposed to
alleged role in Iraq (or anywhere else for that matter), the overall
impression created by the BBC's coverage forms an integral part of an
intensive state-led propaganda offensive that obscures the real reasons for
resistance to the occupation of Iraq and of the larger propaganda campaign
that legitimates t! he phony 'war on terror'...

American Defeat in Iraq
Tanaka Sakai, ZNet
...The centre of anti-U.S. guerrillas in Fallujah is not Zarqawi but
associates and supporters of the military and secret police from the
Hussein regime. They are Sunni Islamists but not Islamist militants.
Hussein's Baath Party is a modernizing organisation that opposed the
Islamic militants. In March-April 2003, when U.S. troops attacked,
Hussein's forces did not engage them. Instead they abandoned their tanks
and pre-existing organisations, and went underground, becom! ing
guerrillas. Many years prior to the invasion, the government had chosen an
underground operations site in case of such an attack, and had taught key
members of the secret police etc. guerrilla warfare tactics including the
skills of improvising bombs, using explosives that can be acquired easily...

Bush Is Leading America Into War and Disaster
Sam Hamod
...This is the same strategy they used to bypass Dr. Hans Blix when he
worked for the UN as a weapons and WMD inspector. Blix said they had worked
very hard but found no WMDs in Iraq. Bush wanted a definitive answer
immediately, When Blix said they would need another month to wrap up their
search, Bush went to war, in order to obviate the truth that he didn't want
the world to know (...) Now, with Iran, though Dr. Al Baradi and the EU
feel progress is being ! made in showing that there is no bomb making
nuclear work in Iran, Bush wants to rid the UN of Al Baradi in order to put
one of his stooges into that seat, then to have a stooge who will justify
one his "pre-emptive attacks" on Iran...

Out of their Mouths, Out of their Hearts
Anne Montgomery, Electronic Iraq
...The people remaining in Fallujah have even rejected or burned "charity"
associated with the interim government or others seen as collaborators with
the U.S. Those attempting to return to their city sometimes wait in line
all day, only to have the checkpoints closed at 3 P. M. The soldiers also
warn them that the munitions and gas used in the attack poisoned the water
and all their belongings...

Bush Wars -- Crooks Get Contracts
Evelyn Pringle
The main companies that were awarded billions of dollars worth of contracts
in Iraq have paid more than $300 million in fines since 2000, to resolve
allegations of fraud, bid rigging, delivery of faulty military equipment,
and environmental damage. For example, according to a review of documents
conducted by the Associated Press, American tax payers are paying more than
$780 million to one British firm that was convicted of fraud on 3 separate
federal construction ! projects and was banned from US government work as
recent as 2002...

Iraq elections more violent than reported
UPI
There were between 200 and 300 attacks across Iraq on Election Day, a top
U.S. Central Command general said Wednesday. The number is higher than the
U.S. military previously reported. Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz
talked at length about the elections, and said the attacks were limited to
just eight suicide bombers wearing explosive vests - seven in Baghdad, and
one south of the capital. Fewer than 50 people were killed in election-day
violence, according to ! Wolfowitz. But the deputy chief of U.S. Central
Command, Air Force Lt. Gen. Lance Smith, told reporters at the Pentagon:
"It depends on how you count and what period you count, but there was a
significant amount of activity on Election Day"...

Meaningless Imperial Policy
Ghali Hassan
...The anti-war movement cannot remain silent pretending it is not
supporting "violent" Resistance. The violence is brought by the Occupation,
not by the people fighting to end it. It should be borne in mind that,
there are other criminal elements at work to discredit the name and the
image of the Iraqi Resistance. The Occupation bogymen of al-Qaeda are not
the face of the Iraqi Resistance. The Iraqi Resistance is a legitimate
nationalist movement (Washington Post, 06 Febr! uary 2005) fighting against
imperial foreign occupation...

US accused of torturing terror suspects
AP
A US human rights group accused the United States of torturing terror
suspects at its detention facilities in Iraq, Afghanistan and Guantanamo
Bay, Cuba, alleging that at least 37 detainees have died during
interrogations. The World Organisation for Human Rights USA said an
upcoming report by the US government to the United Nations Committee
Against Torture on its compliance with a UN convention outlawing torture
was likely to sidestep abuses committed during its war on ! terror, blaming
them on a few "aberrant individuals. "Morton Sklar, the organisation's
executive director, said there were legal memoranda issued at the highest
level in the US Department of Justice and the US Department of Defence
"justifying and encouraging the use of torture as a military necessity in
time of war"...

MEDIA ALERT: PRIORITIES OF POWER - The Real Meaning Of Elections In Iraq
Media Lens
...The BBC's John Simpson made a related point on Panorama, describing
Iraqi insurgents as "opponents to what they see as the foreign occupation
of their country". (Panorama, BBC1, Simpson in Iraq, January 30, 2005)
Imagine Simpson referring in 1943 to "what the French resistance see as the
foreign occupation of their country". Would we even deem this a sane
comment?...

Mother Lode
Chris Floyd, The Moscow Times
...For just as they botched the most important story of our time -- the
Bush Administration's transparently deceptive campaign to launch a war of
aggression against Iraq -- the clubby mavens are now missing the crowning
achievement of this vast crime: the mother of all backroom deals, a cynical
pact sealed by murder, unfolding before our eyes. The Administration's true
objective in Iraq is brutally simple: U.S. domination of Middle East oil
(...) The objective was reveale! d -- yet again -- in a recent Washington
appearance by Iraqi Finance Minister Adil Abdel-Mahdi...

German Prosecutor Won't Pursue Rumsfeld Case
Daryl Lindsey, Spiegel Online
Germany's federal prosecutor says the allegations that United States
Defense Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld and other top Washington brass
were responsible for Abu Ghraib must be investigated in the US, not under
German war crimes laws. The decision deals a blow to the American group
that brought the case, but it could ease German-American tensions...

At What Cost?
Jorge & Vickie E. Castro
...We justify our actions by saying that we are doing it in the name of
freedom, or something. But do we even stop to ask ourselves how the
families feel of all those Iraqi's that that one bomb destroyed. Do they
have justification in calling us terrorists? Now, multiply that by three
years and thousands upon thousands of bombs. I saw a picture online the
other day of an Iraqi father crying as he kissed the forehead of his dead
son. I understand this man's pain; this man's l! oss, and again I say AT
WHAT COST? Our president took this country to war, a war that I feel too
many Americans still are not willing to weigh the consequences of. But then
again, for some of us, the consequences are more real...

point, Salman Pak's main police station was taken over by fighters before
the US military sent in helicopter gunships to attack the building. Police

US deserter's refugee claim
Canadian government blocks consideration of legality of Iraq war
Keith Jones, WSWS
Canada's federal government intervened in a refugee hearing for a US Army
deserter late last year to block discussion of the legality of the US
invasion and occupation of Iraq. A lawyer representing Solicitor-General
Irwin Cotler argued that the legality of the war is beyond the purview of
Canada's Immigration and Refugee Board (IRB). He claimed that the
International Court of Justice in The ! Hague is the only body with the
authority and competence to hear arguments concerning the war's legality...

Eyes Wide Open: "We're Sorry, Kids"
Beth Moore, Editor, Axis of Logic
The first thing we saw before we entered the Eyes Wide Open exhibit at Live
Oak Friends Meeting Grounds in Houston, Texas was a row of silver plaques,
each filled with names and ages of Iraqis killed since the U.S. invasion in
March, 2003. From one side of the building to the other, the small
lettering on these plaques included names entire families, elderly people,
and, most heartbreakingly, young children. I was in tears before I even
enter! ed the exhibit. So many lives, so many children...

Lawyer for US deserters speaks with WSWS
It cannot be irrelevant to a soldier that a war is legal or illegal
Lee Parsons, WSWS
Reports of a growing number of desertions from the US military have
surfaced in recent weeks, revealing a picture of the state of the morale
and support for the war among US forces that differs sharply from that
provided by the Bush administration, the Pentagon and the corporate media.
At least a half dozen deserters from the US are now seeking political
refugee status in Cana! da, but the number of deserters in Canada could be
far higher. According to the US military over 5,500 personnel have deserted
in the past year alone...

Free Arab Voice
The second-largest US base in ar-Ramadi - known as the Glass Factory
Headquarters - came under attack at 10 am Wednesday when Resistance
fighters fired sixteen 120mm mortar rounds into the facility. The
headquarters, formerly a glass factory, was occupied by US troops and
turned into one of their local headquarters after their invasion of Iraq in
spring 2003! . Witnesses told Mafkarat al-Islam that the Resistance
bombardment sparked a series of massive fires inside the camp, sending
clouds of smoke into the sky...

up in a T-shirt that read, "Like a cabinet member, I resign." Pablo held a
