The Indelible Evil of this War
Ernest Partridge, OpEdNews.com
...Above all else, I grieve for the devastation that we have brought upon
an unthreatening sovereign country, Iraq. I grieve for the innocent lives
lost, the innocent bodies mutilated, the devastating losses visited upon
the survivors (...) One Hundred Thousand innocent dead. Can one comprehend
that multitude? Think of the Rose Bowl, filled to its capacity of 90,000.
Then think of everyone therein, killed, one by one, for no justifiable
reason (...) U! nless we act, now. So write letters to Washington, your
state capitol, and your local newspapers. Boycott the mainstream media and
its sponsors, run for office, contribute to MoveOn and ACT. Meet with
friends, make your views known, organize, demonstrate, raise Hell. At first
it will all seem random, pointless, and unavailing. But be patient and be
alert. Today, dissent is scattered and inchoate. But soon a movement will
congeal and leaders will emerge with an agenda and a coordinated plan of
resistance. A generation ago, the American people put an end to an immoral
war, and forced the resignation of another unworthy president. We can do it
again.

Tale of Two Stories: The Fallujah Red Crescent Expulsion
Brian Dominick, The NewStandard.
Not only have I vowed to increase the frequency with which we post good
briefs covering Iraq, but I'm also going to start using them to illustrate
the difference between The NewStandard and mainstream media coverage of the
same events. Our news briefs are perfect for this, as they typically are
culled from 1-3 actual mainstream stories, but presented in a very
different way...

The Economic Situation in Iraq
Still Crushed Under the "Bremer Orders"
Dahr Jamail, IslamOnline
Abu Ahmed Al-Hadithi, 40, sells vegetables in Al-Adhamiyah market. "The
economic situation is so bad now," he said (...) His situation is common
amongst Iraqis who are struggling to survive under the occupation. Looking
expectantly for customers, Mr. Al-Hadithi added, "In Saddam's days we grew
all our own vegetables to sell … but now so many are coming from outside of
Iraq and it is causing us to sell them for less! . So I make less profit
now, and I have nine people to take care of, and it has made my life very
difficult.
Many of the vegetables in Iraq now have been poisoned by Depleted Uranium

Ask Not Who Bankrolled Fallujah Attacks: War Tax Resisters Opt Out
Greg Moses
For three weeks beginning October 14, say sources at Fairness and Accuracy
in Reporting, the assault on Falluja was pure PSYOPS, a mere announcement
of assault, designed to provoke "the opposition" into premature response.
The lie worked pretty well. "The opposition" abandoned their so-called safe
havens and "melted into the night." For this reason, many residents of the
city expected the PSYOPS theater to let out early, too. One haples! s
doctor, Hakim Mirzoev, says he expected the Americans to surround the city,
fire a few shots, and declare victory. He didn't realize that a greater
PSYOPS scheme was in the making...

War Crimes on Nightline?
Mike Whitney
...There are real accounts of America's ongoing war crimes in Falluja, but
you'll have to search the internet to find them. The establishment media
works with such cohesion that no one station will stay on a story after the
others have left. That's why you get that funny sensation when you flip
through the channels that the coverage is nearly identical on every
station. American media strives to deliver a unified picture of world
events; one that is compatible with broa! der political and economic goals
(...) This isn't the result of a conspiracy. Corporate media works exactly
as it is designed to work; functioning in the greater interests of its
investors...

Health Care Given A 'New Look'
Dahr Jamail
The Baghdad Medical City has begun to look nice in its new coat of paint.
It does not look that nice to Dr Hammad Hussein, ophthalmology resident at
the centre. "I have not seen anything which indicates any rebuilding aside
from our new pink and blue colours here where our building and the escape
ladders were painted," he told IPS. What this largest medical complex in
Iraq lacks is medicines, he said. "I'll prescribe medication and the
pharmacy simply does not have it ! to give to the patient"...

Shiite List to be Announced
Juna Cole
Hussein Shahristani, the Shiite scientist charged by Grand Ayatollah Ali
Sistani with cobbling together a big comprehensive Shiite list, said Monday
that the full listing of candidate names (in ranked order) would be made
available on Tuesday. The list is being called the United Iraqi Congress.
The list groups the major Shiite parties and factions, including the Sadr
Movement of Muqtada al-Sadr, the Supreme Council for Islamic Revolution in
Iraq, the Dawa Party, the Is! lamic Dawa, Iraqi Hizbullah (Marsh Arabs),
the secular-leaning Iraqi National Congress of corrupt financier Ahmad
Chalabi, and many Shiite independents...

Iraqi Resistance Report for events of Monday, 6 December 2004
Translated and/or compiled by Muhammad Abu Nasr, member editorial board The
Free Arab Voice.
...About 600 Shi'i notables who represent puppet provincial councils in the
five Middle Euphrates Provinces of an-Najaf, Karbala', Babil, al-Qadisiyah,
and al-Muthanna held a meeting in an-Najaf on Monday where they agreed to
form a so-called "joint security committee," as part of their preparations
for forming a so-called "unified governing council of the Midd! le
Euphrates provinces, and plan a regional council to stimulate the regional
economy (...) The move represents a serious step by the US invaders and
their local surrogates towards the partition of Iraq along religious
sectarian lines in order to facilitate US imperialist and Zionist control
of the Arab region...

2 C.I.A. Reports Offer Warnings on Iraq's Path
DOUGLAS JEHL, New York Times
A classified cable sent by the Central Intelligence Agency's station chief
in Baghdad has warned that the situation in Iraq is deteriorating and may
not rebound any time soon, according to government officials. The cable,
sent late last month as the officer ended a yearlong tour, presented a
bleak assessment on matters of politics, economics and security, the
officials said. They said its basic conclusions had been echoed in
briefings pre! sented by a senior C.I.A. official who recently visited
Iraq...

Rumsfeld's Muddy Quagmire
Ivan Eland, Antiwar
...Ironically, President Bush's seeming reluctance to fire Rumsfeld
indicates how badly the war is going. If the president fired Rumsfeld, an
American public that slumbered through the election might finally realize
the true dismal state of the war. Instead, like a deer caught in the
headlights, Bush naively and unwisely believes that by retaining the
charismatic face of his Iraq policy, he can hide his and Rumsfeld's failure
long enough to figure out what to do...

homes, according to IOL correspondent in the city. This correspondent tells

Navy : Some SEAL's Photos for Intelligence
Associated Press
Preliminary findings of a military inquiry suggest that some of the
recently published photographs of Navy special forces capturing detainees
in Iraq were taken for legitimate intelligence-gathering purposes and
showed commandos using approved procedures, a Navy spokesman said Monday.
The photos, which have drawn a strong reaction in Arab media, also appear
to show Navy SEALs sitting or lying on top of hooded and handcuff! ed
detainees in the back of a pickup truck...

Security Council States to Blame for Oil-for-Food
Thalif Deen
The United States, which has accused the United Nations of condoning
bribery and corruption in the now defunct oil-for-food programme in Iraq,
has not itself been ethical, says a former senior U.N. official who once
headed the humanitarian project in Baghdad (...) "I say this because the
bottom line of this 'scandal' is the member states themselves … their abuse
of the U.N. Charter, their use of (economic) sanctions to the point of
genocide, their misu! se of Iraqi oil monies (about 30 percent were
diverted as compensation to Kuwait while Iraqi kids were dying from bad
water and poor food), the endless bombing over the years and the final
bombing prior to the illegal invasion ..."

CHAPTER 12. The Communists Dismiss their Commitments
Amir Iskander, Al-Moharer
" As long as the different parties to the front observe their commitment to
the revolution, the Arab Socialist Baath Party has at no time had any
intention of turning the front into a temporary measure, nor of basing its
relationship with it on anything other than a sincere historical duty to
put society on the road to socialism by building this society itself and
its relations! along socialist lines, and by making the revolution more

Fallujah as a "Model City"
Dahr Jamail
...Another example of the winning of hearts and minds of Iraqis is being
formulated for the residents of Fallujah. The military has announced the
plans it is considering to use for allowing Fallujans back into their city.
They will set up "processing centers" on the outskirts of the city and
compile a database of peoples' identities by using DNA testing and retina
scans. Residents will then receive a badge which identifies them with their
home address, which they must wear a! t all times(..)The goal of crushing
the resistance and creating stability by destroying Fallujah has gone so
well that resistance fighters here roamed freely about Haifa street today
hunting for Iraqis collaborating with US forces...

International Weapons Conventions and Iran, Iraq
Omar Khan, Electronic Iraq
...Less dubious is the continued use of depleted uranium munitions, which
as Vishnu Bhagwat, former Indian Chief of Naval Staff, has written amounted
in 2003 alone to the equivalent of nearly 250,000 Nagasaki bombs. But
depleted uranium is nothing new, having been used extensively in southern
Iraq during the first Gulf War. The Department of Environmental Engineering
at the University of Baghdad has accordingly measured radiation levels i! n
and near the city of Basra to range from hundreds to thousands of times the
normal levels. Dr. Jawad Kadhim Al-Ali, Director of the Oncology Center in
Basra, has theorized that depleted uranium may be a reason that the death
rate from cancers in Basra has now reached 19 times that of 1988....

US soldiers sue for having to stay in Iraq
Paul Harris, The Guardian
Eight US soldiers serving in Iraq launched a legal challenge yesterday to
stop their tours of duty from being extended. The lawsuit is the first of
its kind by a group of American soldiers on active service in the country.
The soldiers, seven of whom will remain anonymous out of fear of official
retribution, are fighting against being forced to stay in their units after
their period of enlistment has ended...

The System Endures
The Washington Post - Editorial
...Yet the worst aspect of the Abu Ghraib scandal is this: The system
survived its public exposure. The Bush administration is vigorously
prosecuting the lowly reservists depicted in the Abu Ghraib photos, while
brazenly defending the larger process it established for extracting
intelligence from prisoners. No senior officers have acknowledged fault for
authorizing harsh interrogation techniques or been held accountable by
prosecutors or Congress...

Is the Bush Administration Certifiable?
Paul Craig Roberts
Has President Bush lost his grip on reality? In his December 1 speech in
Halifax, Nova Scotia, President Bush again declared his intention to
pre-emptively attack "enemies who plot in secret and set out to murder the
innocent and the unsuspecting." Freedom from terrorism, Bush declared, will
come only through pre-emptive war against enemies of democracy. How does
Bush know who and where these secret enemies are? How many more times will
his guesses be wro! ng like he was about Iraq? What world does Bush live
in? The US cannot control Iraq, much less battle the rest of the Muslim
world and beyond. While Bush threatened the world with US aggression,
headlines revealed the futility of preemptively invading countries:
"Pentagon to Boost Iraq Force by 12,000," "US Death Toll in Iraq at Highest
Monthly Level," "Wounded Disabled Soldiers Kept on Active Duty."...

Fallujah: Pentagon Plans a High-tech Strategic Hamlet
Kurt Nimmo
... In Vietnam, peasants were forced to build their gulags, while in
Fallujah male civilians will be organized in "military-style battalions"
and, depending "on their skills" will "be assigned jobs in construction,
waterworks, or rubble-clearing platoons." In other words, Fallujans will be
organized into chain-gangs and forced to clean up the criminal mess the
United States made of their city. For some reason the Pentagon either does
not realize or ! could not care less about the anger and resistance such
humiliation will cause...
