  da Gerusalemme un messaggio di solidarietà per la sessantina di famiglie
in grave difficoltà.

UN MURO ISOLA BETLEMME

Appello urgente! Preghiamo intervenire

- attraverso il proprio governo;
- l'ambasciata d'Israele del proprio Paese;
- direttamente al governo di Israele;


Le autorità militari israeliane hanno deciso di separare i Territori
palestinesi da Israele con  l'erezione di  un lungo muro che attraversa
tutto il Paese. I lavori di costruzione hanno raggiunto Betlemme. In
seguito a questa decisione una sessantina di famiglie cristiane in
prossimità della Tomba di Rachele, santuario ebreo all'entrata di Betlemme,
sono state come cintate, isolate e private di  servizi sociali a causa del
muro di 8 metri  di altezza che isolerà Betlemme sia da Gerusalemme che
dagli altri Territori.

Noi ci appelliamo a tutti i cristiani e non cristiani del mondo e diciamo:

Prima che sia troppo tardi:
1) intervenire in qualunque modo e con ogni mezzo al fine di salvaguardare
la città di Betlemme dove ognuno possa recarsi a pregare e vivere in pace;
2) Fare pressione sulle Autorità israeliane al fine di arrestare la
costruzione del muro all'entrata della santa città del Natale, la città di
Betlemme. 

Gli abitanti di Betlemme, particolarmente i cristiani, che  già subiscono i
gravissimi disagi di una pesante occupazione, si vedono ora ancor più
isolati e minacciati da ogni genere di restrizioni e difficoltà al punto
che molti di essi sono costretti ad abbandonare il Paese. Essi lanciano a
voi il loro accorato appello di solidarietà. E' un grido di SOS.

Ecco un testo che potrebbe essere formulato in questo modo:

Ci appelliamo a Lei al fine di fare pressione sul governo israeliano perché
arresti e sospenda la costruzione del muro attorno alla Tomba di Rachele
all'entrata di Betlemme dove una sessantina di famiglie cristiane
verrebbero cintate, isolate e private dei servizi sociali. Tali famiglie
sarebbero inoltre isolate sia dalla città di Betlemme che da Gerusalemme
nonché dagli altri Territori. E' urgente intervenire perché si trovi una
ragionevole sistemazione a queste famiglie che già subiscono i gravissimi
disagi di una pesante occupazione in modo che possano usufruire di una
certa libertà di movimento senza eccessive restrizioni.







Un appello al Capo del governo israeliano, in inglese, potrebbe essere così
indirizzato:


Mr. Prime Minister Ariel Sharon,

We wish to appeal to you to stop encirclement of sixty Christian families
as a result of the construction of a wall near Rachael's Tomb in Bethlehem.
These families are being encircled, isolated and deprived of all services,
and have only a small entrance, through an eight/meter high wall, that will
also isolate the city of Bethlehem from Jerusalem and the other
Territories. We urge you to intervene and to find a suitable solution for
these families so that they can move freely and without excessive
restrictions.

To the Most Rev.d Presidents of Bishops Conferences

This is an urgent appeal!

Please, do whatever you can:

- through your own Government,
- with the Israeli Embassy in your Country,
- with the Israeli Government itself.


A wall isolates Bethlehem

The Israeli military authorities have taken the decision to separate the
Palestinian Territories from Israel by a long wall passing through the
whole Country. Works have now reached Bethlehem.

Because of this Israeli decision, sixty Christian families, near Rachel's
Tomb, at the entrance of Bethlehem, are being encircled, isolated and
deprived of all services, and have only a small entry, through an
eight-meter high wall, that will also isolate the city of Bethlehem from
Jerusalem and the other Territories.

We address this urgent appeal also to all the Christians in the world:

Please,

-	Before it is too late,
-	do something to leave Bethlehem a city where one can go, pray and
live in peace;
-	convince the Israeli Authorities to stop this measure of building
the wall at the entrance of the very holy city of Christmas, the city of
Bethlehem!

The inhabitants of Bethlehem and particularly the Christians, seeing
themselves closed in, threatened by serious hardship to the point where
some of them may feel constrained to leave the country, appeal to you! This
is an S.O.S. cry!
