9 Mar. 2002. Dear friends, In this update we report on one objector imprisoned and two released: 1. OBJECTOR AMNON SAGIV IMPRISONED Several days ago, Amnon Sagiv, 29, of Moshav Ganot, has been sentenced to 28 days' detention for refusing service in Nablus. Sagiv, married, a programme engineer, serves with an artillery unit. He is the fourth among the signatories of the "Letter of the Officers" to be imprisoned since the letter was published. His prison address is: Capt. Amnon Sagiv Military Prison No. 6 Military postal code 03734 IDF Israel You can send him letters of support through the signers' website by filling in the form at: http://www.seruv.org.il/leavemailEng.asp. Also, please send appeals on his behalf to the Minister of Defence, at: Mr. Binyamin Ben-Eliezer, Minister of Defence, Ministry of Defence, 37 Kaplan st., Tel-Aviv 61909, Israel. e-mail: mailto:sar at mod.gov.il Fax: ++972-3-696-27-57 / ++972-3-691-69-40 / ++972-3-691-79-15 Copies can be sent to the commander of the prison at: Commander of Military Prison No. 6, Military Prison No. 6, Military postal number 03734, IDF Israel. FAX: ++972-4-869-28-84 A standard sample letter can be found on this web page: http://www.newprofile.org/english/Summery_CO_01.html However, note that it is always preferable to adjust the text to the specific details of each case. Addresses of additional military and government officials, as well as those of some Israeli media, to which you can send copies of your appeals, can be found at this web address: http://www.newprofile.org/english/Summery_CO_01.html 2. OBJECTORS HAGGAI REGEV AND AMIT GAL RELEASED Objector Haggai Regev finished his prison term this Monday (4 Mar.) and was released from prison. Objector Amit Gal was released from prison prematurely earlier this week, after completing one quarter of his original 28-day sentence. A senior military officer decided to commute his sentence, following an appeal from Amit's mother (and it is quite possible that your pressure also helped). In both cases, there is no danger of further imprisonment for the time being. All the best and thanks, Sergeiy Sandler - New Profile.
