BELGRADE, Yugoslavia -- The body of a prominent Belgrade judge
who went missing nearly a month ago was found Sunday in the Sava
River, the Tanjug news agency reported.

The disappearance of Nebojsa Simeunovic, an investigative judge in the
Belgrade District Court, triggered speculation that he was abducted by
loyalists of former President Slobodan Milosevic.

On the eve of an October uprising that swept Milosevic from power,
Simeunovic refused to order the arrest of prominent opposition leaders
and organizers of a strike in a major coal mine.

Tanjug quoted police sources as saying that Simeunovic's body was pulled
out of the river and sent to a morgue for an autopsy.

Police said they had no evidence that Simeunovic had been kidnapped but
would not rule out the possibility. Simeunovic vanished on Nov. 7.

Simeunovic had worked on a number of high-profile cases in his 20-year
career, including the slaying earlier this year of the Defense Minister Pavle
Bulatovic.
