Bombe incendiarie su Falluja
Mike Whitney, ZNet

Galloway Refuses to Condemn Suicide Attacks in Iraq
Jamie Lyons,
...Asked if he would condemn suicide bombers, the anti-war MP said: "I will
not condemn an occupied people for using their legal rights, their legal
rights as well as their moral rights to resist the illegal occupation of
their country." But Mr Galloway insisted he detested the idea of British
soldiers being killed and that is why he was trying to get them pulled out
of Iraq. He said: "Because I detest the idea of our soldiers being killed,
I'm out ! here in the streets every day, public meetings every night,
trying to get our troops out of harm's way...."

U.S. renews air strikes on Fallujah
UPI
U.S. war planes Saturday launched a fresh wave of air strikes on suspected
rebel strongholds in Fallujah, west of Baghdad. The renewal of the air
raids came amid unconfirmed reports of ground clashes in several areas of
the city that is populated by Sunni Muslims. Most of Fallujah's population,
estimated at 250,000, fled last month from the fierce fighting, which has
continued at intervals despite U.S. and Iraqi forces' claims they have
taken complete control of the city..! .

She is a Black Scorpion, a Spinster and She Plays the Piano
Abu Assur. Al-Moharer
...Most terrifying are her eyes. Eyes, Iraqis say, are the mirrors of the
soul! Iraqi children's song whispers: "if you want to see my heart; look
into my eyes." Condi's are frightening! I would not let my child watch her
on TV before going to sleep. Her eyes drip of bitterness and she sweats
venom. With the all US technology, PR specialists and psychological media
manipulation able to change an ass into a President, nobody succeede! d so
far to change the image she has as the black poisonous scorpion. No wonders
people reckon that she even varnish her dragon fingernails with the blood
of Fallujah's children. This is the US XXIst century. Condi is just one
prophetess of the new US religion!...

"Any act of violence in an unjustified conflict is an atrocity"
US soldier seeks refugee status in Canada
Joseph Kay, WSWS
Jeremy Hinzman, a 26-year-old former paratrooper in the US Marines 82nd
Airborne Division, is seeking refugee status in Canada after fleeing the
US. His hearing before the Immigration and Refugee Board (IRB) in Toronto
ended on December 8. In his testimony, Hinzman argued that he has an
obligation to refuse orders to fight in Iraq because the war is illegal and
immoral. "Serving eve! n one day in prison for refusing to comply with an
illegal order is too long," he said. "I would be prosecuted for acting upon
a political belief...for refusing to do something that was wrong "...

It is the Baath who warns John Abizeid. The occupation army is in the
impasse we put it in
The Arab Baath Socialist Party, Al-Moharer
...Here we would like to explain to Abizeid that the confrontation levels,
places and timing are a Baathist choice, which we impose on Abizeid and on
his troops and on those of the puppet government whom he tries to
desperately train and rehabilitate. The Baath will wipe out the forces of
the puppet government because they are considered part of the
infrastructure and as an interme! diary objective in the sequence to the
strategic objective, which is the total defeat of Abizeid troops or his
successor, to liberate Iraq, all of Iraq...

Lives in Chaos - Kidnappings
Donna Mulhearn, Electronic Iraq,
..."How can this be stopped?" I asked out loud not really expecting an
answer. Hardie responded in a flash. "Saddam Hussein". "What?" I asked
rather surprised coming from the mouth of young, well-educated Shi'ite man.
"When we lived under Saddam I used to stay out all night and walk home at
three in the morning without a thought for my safety. I could leave my car
in any place with the key in the ignition! Now you can't leave a toy car on
the street or! it will disappear! You think we want to live like this, like
we are in a prison? No, we prefer how it was before. Under Saddam we knew
how to protect our family, the rules were clear. But now we live each day
afraid we will lose someone we love whenever they leave the house"...

Reservists fighting stop-loss orders
Hell no, we don't want to go!
Nicole Colson, Socialist Worker
SENDING MORE U.S. soldiers to kill and be killed. That's the Bush
administration's plan for the occupation of Iraq. Pentagon officials
announced last week that 12,000 more troops would be deployed to Iraq in
time for the country's scheduled January elections--raising the total
number to 150,000. For soldiers who were promised a "quick" war and told
that they would be welcomed as "liberators! ," the news will add to growing
bitterness and frustration. That frustration is beginning to drive some
soldiers--particularly reservists--to take action...

Fallujah: The homecoming and the homeless
Patrick Cockburn and Kim Sengupta
The Black Watch arrives back in Britain this morning - home in time for
Christmas as Tony Blair had promised. The regiment's five-week mission -
the toughest British troops have faced since the invasion of Iraq 21 months
ago - made possible the US assault on Fallujah, which now lies in ruins
(...) The Red Cross team - which entered without escort and left before
curfew - met no residents, apart from engineers and technicians. The Red
Cro! ss reported that hundreds of dead bodies remain stacked inside a
potato chip warehouse on the outskirts. Some of the bodies were too badly
decomposed to be identified. Raw sewage runs through the streets...

Dari Explains AMS Stand on Iraqi Polls
IslamOnline.net
Flatly denying US claims Iraq's Association of Muslim Scholars (AMS) was
opposed to the political process in Iraq, AMS spokesman said it was
impossible for fair or free elections to be held under current
deteriorating conditions. Explaining to IslamOnline.net, in a special
meeting Thursday, December 9, the view point of AMS and other Iraqi
national powers boycotting the January 30 polls, Muthanna Harith Al-Dari
said "technicalities and realities on the ground! " make such polls void

'Cleaning up' in Fallujah
Helena Cobban
...So if the US Army knows that "several hundred" bodies have been
warehoused in that single location-- I'm hoping it's a refrigerated
warehouse but fear it probably isn't-- then what prevents them from either
(a) arranging for a handover of these bodies to civilian bodies outside
outside of the city who could help identify them, notify the relatives, and
arrange for as proper and expeditious a burial as possible, or at least,
(b) allowing an ICRC team in to photograph the! bodies and start planning
for their eventual removal and burial? Could the reason be that the US
military are embarrassed about the condition of these bodies-- and perhaps,
about the proportion of them that seem not to be the bodies of fighters--
and therefore don't want the ICRC to see them at all?...

The grand elector Sistani
Pepe Escobar
The Iraqi elections won't happen on January 30 because the Bush
administration wants them: they will happen because Grand Ayatollah Ali
al-Sistani wants them. The Shi'ite leader knows it's now or never for the
Shi'ite majority in the country to take power. The majority of Sunnis -
because of the Fallujah offensive - won't vote: Sunnis comprise from 20% to
30% of Iraq's population. The elections will have no effect on the Sunni
Iraqi resistance against the occupation. Secular! Sunnis in Baghdad are
already saying post-election Iraq will not resemble a democracy, but a
Shi'ite "elective oligarchy"...

Disease risk stops Falluja return
BBCNews
...As well as water-borne diseases, US forces say dogs that have fed on
corpses pose a risk to returning refugees. US soldiers have been killing
the stray animals to prevent the spread of rabies, the BBC's Caroline
Hawley reports. Marines interviewed by AFP news agency said orders had been
given to "thin out" the city's animal population...

Human Rights Day 2004: US Guilty of War Crimes in Iraq
MADRE
December 10 marks the fifty-sixth anniversary of the Universal Declaration
of Human Rights, a groundbreaking international agreement created to avoid
a reoccurrence of Nazi crimes against humanity. If US soldiers in Fallujah
were given copies of the Declaration, they would see that they are being
ordered to commit some of the very crimes that the Declaration and
successive human rights instruments were intended to prevent...

US Army plagued by desertion and plunging morale
Elaine Monaghan
WHILE insurgents draw on deep wells of fury to expand their ranks in Iraq,
the US military is fighting desertion, recruitment shortfalls and legal
challenges from its own troops. The irritation among the rank and file
became all too clear this week when a soldier stood up in a televised
session with Donald Rumsfeld, the US Defence Secretary, to ask why the
world's richest army was having to hunt for scrap metal to protect its
vehicles. The same nigh! t, interviews with three soldiers who are seeking
refugee status in Canada, where they have become minor celebrities,
dominated prime time television...

Shiite candidate bloc raises fears in Iraq
Tom Lasseter, Knight Ridder Newspapers
The naming of a bloc of Shiite Muslim candidates that's likely to sweep
upcoming national elections is heightening worries that the vote will
divide a war-torn country and push it to civil war. Predictions of
widespread violence between Iraq's Sunni and Shiite religious groups -
frequently made since Saddam Hussein was toppled 20 months ago - haven't
come to pass. But that could change, some say, with elections certain to
delineate! the fault line between the two sects more clearly than at any
time since Saddam's fall...

You're Voting for Whom?
Iraq's new political coalition is reluctant to release the names of its
election candidates. But some surprising figures have been included—and
left out
Nordland, Newsweek
The much-anticipated Shiite list of candidates for the forthcoming
elections in Iraq was presented today—in partial anonymity and peculiar
secrecy. (...)There was a stunning inclusion in the list, as well—Ahmad
Chalabi and his exile-based Iraqi National Congress party. Chalabi,
initially supported by t! he American government as a potential replacement
for Saddam, has fallen into disfavor with the United States after a series
of scandals and even allegations that he was working with Iranian
intelligence (...) But Chalabi has close ties with Iran, and recently has
forged a relationship with both Sistani, an Iranian-born cleric, and with
Sadr...

Amputation rate for US troops twice that of past wars
Raja Mishra, Globe Staff
US troops injured in Iraq have required limb amputations at twice the rate
of past wars, and as many as 20 percent have suffered head and neck
injuries that may require a lifetime of care, according to new data giving
the clearest picture yet of the severity of battlefield wounds. The data
are the grisly flip side of improvements in battlefield medicine that have
saved many combatants who would have died in the past: Only 1 in 10 US tr!
oops injured in Iraq has died, the lowest rate of any war in US history...
