Uniti d'America"...

She escaped, but so many others died
Socialist Worker
TWO VICTIMS of Tony Blair and George Bush's war on the Iraqi people met
last week. Their stories show the horror that is being inflicted upon
ordinary people the world over by the "war on terror". Rose Gentle, the
mother of British soldier Gordon Gentle who died in Iraq in June, visited
four year old Iraqi orphan Aysha Saleem at Wythenshawe Hospital in
Manchester on Thursday of last week. A US bombing raid destroyed Aysha's
house in Fallujah on 4 October killi! ng eight members of her family,
including her pregnant mother and three year old brother...

The Iraq war goes from bad to worse
Steve Chapman
American troops have been in Iraq for the better part of two years, and
last week we marked a milestone. U.S. officials in Baghdad barred embassy
staffers from using the 10-mile segment of highway that connects the
embassy to the airport. Why? Because it isn't safe. They'll have to go by
helicopter instead. Think of that. This is the most important road in all
of Iraq, and American forces have labored mightily to secure it (...) And
the Bush administration thinks ! we can secure the whole country?..,

Fallujah insurgent chief vows to continue resistance
Middle East Online
A wanted Iraqi insurgent leader who battled US forces in Fallujah, Sheikh
Abdullah al-Janabi, has vowed to continue his resistance until Americans
leave Iraq, in a statement obtained by AFP on Thursday. The authenticity of
the two-page document, which was addressed to Muslims across the world and
dated December 5, could not be independently verified. "Your brothers on
the Fallujah Council of the Mujahedeen and those from other factions stand
! committed before God and before you to continue the Jihad (holy war)
against the occupiers and their agents until they leave Iraq"...

No excuses
We must count Iraqi casualties
Mike Rowson and John Sloboda, The Guardian
How many Iraqis will die today? Maybe 10. Maybe 100. We have no way of
knowing. Blair and Bush, who invaded and occupied Iraq in order to make the
world a safer place, say there is no reliable way to count Iraqi casualties
- and so they will not try. Thus they refuse to accord innocent Iraqis the
same status as our own dead and injured, whose names we rightly record and
honour...

US Marine Highlights Civilian Killings in Iraq
IslamOnline.net
...Massey's testimony came to bolster claims by fugitive paratrooper Jeremy
Hinzman that he walked out on the 82nd Airborne Division to avoid being
ordered to commit war crimes in Iraq. Hinzman has told the IRB that the
army was drilling its soldiers to think of all Arabs and Muslims as
potential terrorists, the Associated Press reported. "We were being told
that it was a new kind of war, that these were evil people and they had to
be dealt with," Hin! zman said...

For Displaced Falloujans, a New Battle Underway
Edmund Sanders,Times Staff Writer
...For thousands of the displaced, the struggle continues even though major
combat in Fallouja ended weeks ago. More than 200,000 civilians fled the
city before the U.S.-led invasion last month, moving in with relatives,
filling up hotels or leaving the country. Like the Allawi family, thousands
with no place to go sought shelter in temporary camps, schools, mosques and
vacant commercial buildings in Baghdad and surrounding cities..! .

Iraqi Resistance Report for events of Wednesday, 8 December 2004
Translated and/or compiled by Muhammad Abu Nasr, member editorial board The
Free Arab Voice.
...US forces arrested the young woman Raghd al-Fahdawi, 22, when they
failed to capture her wanted brother on charges that he belongs to one of
the Resistance organizations. US troops took Raghd away from her home on
al-Mustawda' Street in ar-Ramadi at about 10am Wednesday and off to
confinement on their base east of the city. The Mafkarat al-Islam correspo!
ndent reported that the screams of the young woman shook the residents of
the city and prompted the Resistance organization the Army of Muhammad to
unleash a barrage of 13 Ababil and Grad rockets at the US camp that lies
near the glass factory (...) After such furious bombardments, US troops
released Raghd and returned her safely to her home.

Fallujah - a US Prison Camp?
Antiwar.com - Iraqwar
...The destruction of Fallujah and wildly unrealistic plans for its
reconstruction and recreation as an American-run prison camp is the failed
invasion and occupation of Iraq in microcosm (...)I suppose that the good
news is that the horror of an American prison camp as described by George
can't happen according to my calculations, though there is little comfort
in knowing that the US would surely make it happen if it were possible...

U.S. service members reported 273 cases of sexual assault in Iraq, Kuwait,
Afghanistan and Bahrain between August 2002 and December 2004. The Miles

No Apologies For Dissent: Truth And Cowardice
Paul Street, ZNet
My November 23rd article "Loves, Hates, Kills, Dies," about an episode of
fawning imperial war journalism at Time Magazine, continues to evoke angry
response from militarist quarters. In the essay, I provided extensive
quotes from a Time article that spoke in glowing terms about the military
heroics of Army Staff Seargent David Bellavia (DB). The chilling Time piece
showed Bellavia in the glorious act of killing a handful of Iraqi
"insurgents," portr! aying Bellavia in practically hero-worshipping terms
as a warrior prince who is ready to discuss the Renaissance during breaks
in imperial violence...

Why the U.S. won't defeat the resistance
Socialist Worker
...That's why we have to rebuild the antiwar movement that was derailed
during the presidential elections. This movement has to work in solidarity
with the forces that can end the U.S. occupation--the Iraqi resistance, and
U.S. soldiers who refuse to be cannon fodder for Washington's imperial
plans. We can start by building a strong antiwar presence in protests
planned to coincide with Bush's inauguration in January. We have to make
our voices heard--end t! he U.S. occupation now!...

Truth be told, lies are part of Pentagon strategy
JOSEPH L. GALLOWAY, Knight Ridder Newspapers
...There is a struggle inside the Pentagon over where to draw the line in
conducting so-called information operations or propaganda in the wars in
Afghanistan and Iraq and who will be involved. On one side are the
information warfare activists, led by Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld
and Assistant Secretary Douglas Feith. On the other are those who believe
that telling lies to the media is wrong and military public ! affairs
officers should never be involved in that...

A Phoenix Program for IraqIn Fallujah, Freedom Isn't Free
RON JACOBS, CounterPunch
...Another, less-publicized aspect of the police state mechanisms that the
US hopes to put in place in Fallujah is the creation of so-called work
brigades that would essentially force male residents of Fallujah into
forced labor battalions. I can almost see these men now-wearing khaki
overalls with the flag of the US-created Baghdad regime sewn on the back
and their name and address stitched onto the front breast pocket. Jus! t
like the chain gangs in the southern states of the US, these men will be
working under armed guard. Perhaps they'll even be forced to wear chains
around their ankles as they rebuild the city their captors destroyed in the
name of their freedom and liberty...

Deserters: We Won't Go To Iraq
CBS News
It's an offense punishable by death during wartime. It's been committed by
5500 soldiers since the war with Iraq began. The men, who have violated
military orders and oaths, tell 60 Minutes Wednesday that it isn't
cowardice, but rather the nature of the war in Iraq, that turned them into
American deserters. American soldiers currently living in Canada tell
Correspondent Scott Pelley why they made the decision to desert their
units, in a report to be broadcast on Dec. 8, at! 8 p.m. ET/PT...

Strausscon Lego Set: Connecting Syria and the Iraqi Resistance
Kurt Nimmo
Iran, Syria, Saudi Arabia. These are but three of the countries the
Bushcons want to invade, or at least bomb, rub out their current
leadership, and pitch their societies into chaos, violence, and privation.
It's not a conspiracy theory—the Bushcons have stated their desire to do
this for some time now. So it comes as no surprise that "military
intelligence officials" in the Bush Pentagon "have concluded that the Iraqi
insurgency is being d! irected to a greater degree than previously
recognized from Syria" and funded by "private sources in Saudi Arabia and
Europe"...

Iraq had admitted that the Iraqi police and national guard were "foundering
in the face of coordinated efforts to kill and intimidate them". The NYT

major withdrawal of American troops for at least a decade would invite
chaos, a senior interior ministry official, whose name could not b! e used,
said in an interview last week"...

Iraqi Women Under Occupation
PPs Presentation
Nada Al-Rubaiee, www.albasrah.net
To start with women status before the war, Iraqi women had the right to
vote and participate in any area of public and political life (...) And if
I want to mention the educational level of women, I don't have to explain
much. Iraqi women were working as scientist, doctors, and university
teachers. And as Nicholas Christof, from the New York Times wrote in 2002,
that "at the Basra Pediatric Teaching Hospital 25 of the 26 students w! ere
women. Across town, 54 percent of Basra University's students were
female"…and this is just one example of how far the Iraqi women could
reach. Iraqi women have already obtained most of their rights. However,
they still have to fight some tribal, political and social problems. But
this is a long struggle just like the case in many countries all over the
world (...) What have the Coalition forces given to Iraqi women concerning
human rights and democracy? Iraqi women are being abused, arrested and
raped. This is the daily environment in which Iraqi women live at the
moment. This is the faked freedom the United States came with...

Who's behind the oil-for-food scandal?
Jude Wanniski , Aljazeera.net
...What about the damning report of Charles Duelfer and his Iraqi Survey
Group, which announced last month that Saddam Hussein destroyed all of his
weapons of mass destruction and their programmes in 1991? In his report, he
also brought up the oil-for-food programme, which was never part of his
mission when he was appointed by Bush to check further into Iraq's WMD
intentions. Duelfer, who could not pretend to have found WMD when none
existed, c! learly used the oil-for-food programme to distract attention
from his central finding. (...) His report to the UN will be made public
and judgments can then be made. It may be there is no scandal at all. Just
another trick of the neo-conservatives to blow away anyone who gets in the
way of their plans for a global empire.
