World Wide Petition against the Escalation in Iraq
An initiative of the BRussells tribunal endorsed by the World Tribunal on Iraq
Far from being over, the war in Iraq has only begun. The United States do
not seem to be able to defeat the Iraqi resistance with the means they have
been using. But neither can they accept their setbacks. The very arrogance
with which the war was declared and waged has put all their prestige at
stake in Iraq and, thereby, decades of efforts to assure their world
domination. The stakes! are even greater than in the Vietnam war....

Amid Non-stop Air Raids, Fallujah Awaits US Attack
IslamOnline.net
US warplanes continued their missile attacks on the Iraqi resistance
bastion of Fallujah, destroying several buildings and causing casualties,
as residents braced for a full military assault after the re-election of US
President George W. Bush. In a further sign the few coming days would
likely witness a major confrontation, the US-picked Iraqi government is
reportedly forming a shadow administration to run Fallujah if a combined
force of US Marin! es and Army soldiers is ordered to assault the insurgent
stronghold, according to The Associated Press, citing the US military
Thursday...

Military Is Afraid to Tell Bush, Cheney the Truth, Says Sy Hersh in 'WP'
Online Chat
Editor & Publisher
Seymour Hersh, the famed reporter known for breaking stories from My Lai to
Abu Ghraib, said in a Washingtonpost.com chat today that "the major media
have been part of the problem since 9-11, merely because they have far too
often taken the president's public utterances at face value." He added:
"There also is a terrific unwillingness, perhaps understandable (though not
by me), to make a moral judgment about a ! president's policies...

US faces gap in 'intelligence war' in Iraq
Ann Scott Tyson | Correspondent of The Christian Science Monitor
Iraq's growing insurgency has no shortage of funds, and it is waging ever
more lethal and sophisticated attacks against a US-led coalition still
hampered by a paucity of on-the-ground intelligence. "We just don't believe
there's any lack of funding," says a senior US military intelligence
officer with extensive experience in Iraq. Indeed, the insurgency has
gained both tactically and numerically, with Penta! gon estimates of core
fighters rising as high as 12,000. Tens of thousands part-time backers may
join in on any given day...

Iraqi Resistance Report for events of Monday, 1 November 2004 through
Thursday, 4 November 2004
Translated and/or compiled by Muhammad Abu Nasr, member editorial board The
Free Arab Voice
...Iraqi Resistance forces beat back a major US Marine attack on
al-Fallujah from the southwest. The local correspondent of Mafkarat
al-Islam reported that the US troops tried to storm the city from the
al-Fallujah Dam area, to the southwest of the city. US tanks and armored
vehicles took part. Contrary to the Americans' expecta! tions, however, the
Resistance observed their attempt and fired back with 60mm and 82mm
mortars, RPG7s, SBG9s, beginning around 5:30am local time Tuesday morning.
Three Resistance fighters were wounded in the combat, as were five
civilians...

Richard A. Oppel Jr. The New York Times
...Hiding in buildings on the outskirts of Ramadi, near the eastern end of
the base, the sniper remains a threat for anyone who ventures out of Ogden
Gate. Teams have tried to take down the sniper, to no avail, a base
official said. The roughly 5,500 men and women of the 2nd Brigade Combat
Team have suffered 22 fatalities since they arrived at this base two months
ago. In addition to the three sniper victims, Captain Eric Allton, 34, died

Soldiers Describe Looting of Explosives
Mark Mazzetti
In the weeks after the fall of Baghdad, Iraqi looters loaded powerful
explosives into pickup trucks and drove the material away from the Al Qaqaa
ammunition site, according to a group of U.S. Army reservists and National
Guardsmen who said they witnessed the looting. The soldiers said about a
dozen U.S. troops guarding the sprawling facility could not prevent the
theft because they were outnumbered by looters...

MEDIA ALERT: 100,000 IRAQI CIVILIAN DEATHS - PART 2
MEDIA LENS
..."Did your research uncover evidence of mass murder by Saddam Hussein's
regime in the year prior to the invasion?" (...) ""There was one reported
killing by Saddam's folks in the first days of the war (considered
post-invasion) and there were a couple people who disappeared during the
invasion (all adult males). We did not count disappearances as deaths.
Thus, no, we have no evidence of that" (...) Not one journalist has
commented on the sign! ificance of the absence of evidence for claims that
Saddam Hussein was involved in mass killing in the year prior to the
invasion...

J'accuse: War Crimes & Iraq
Conn Hallinan, Foreign Policy In Focus
...In short, the attack violated the Conventions, and the "Pentagon
official"—most likely Assistant Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz—should
be arrested and tried for violating international law. Since the attack
constituted a "grave breach" of the Conventions, the official could also be
charged under the 1996 U.S. War Crimes Act...

As Iraqi resistance stiffens
U.S. plans military assault on Falluja
Fred Goldstein
The media focus on the U.S. presidential campaign has sidelined vital
information about two dramatic developments taking place in Iraq: the
further growth of the resistance and preparations for an all-out U.S.
attack on Falluja (...) It is this hatred of the occupation that compels
the people of Falluja to stand and fight rather than let colonial occupiers
enter the city. Falluja has become the symbol of resistance, not only in!
Iraq but in the entire Arab world and beyond...

Marine says he was ordered to grab Iraqi prisoner's neck
David Hasemyer, UNION-TRIBUNE STAFF WRITER
Marine Cpl. Christian Hernandez said he was struggling to move a sick and
listless prisoner out of a holding room at the Camp Whitehorse jail in Iraq
when he heard an order: "Grab him by the neck." Hernandez said he paused,
positioned himself over the man's head, then took him by the neck and
dragged him 15 or so feet to another holding area, where the Iraqi prisoner
was later found dead...

Bush Win: A Straussian Mandate for Total War
Kurt Nimmo
...Most Americans do not understand the dynamics of the Bush
administration. It is ruled by a camarilla of lunatic warmongers,
Straussian neocons who believe America's military power should be used to
"reshape" the Middle East in the name of Greater Israel. Bush's Straussian
advisors are fixated on killing Arabs and Muslims, the same way Israel's
Sharon is fixated on killing Palestinians. Bush's evil genius mastermind is
Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowi! tz, "now widely known as 'Wolfowitz
of Arabia' for his obsession with ousting Iraq's Saddam Hussein as the
first step in transforming the entire Arab Middle East," writes Jim Lobe,
one of a few journalists who speaks the truth about the Straussian
neocons...

I silenzi sulla Carlyle
Naomi Klein, Internazionale

Movement and the resistance can beat Bush
Socialist Worker
...Bush faces an immense crisis. The occupation of Iraq has already killed
100,000 people, according to the latest estimate, and resistance to it can
only rise. We will soon see a murderous assault on Fallujah, and an angry
backlash against US imperialism across the globe. If the Iraqi resistance
combines with a vibrant international solidarity movement, we can bring
Bush's Empire tumbling down. Kerry's defeat shows what happens if the
movement is demobil! ised and the left does not provide an alternative to
the big business parties...

CIA involved in illegal deportation of Iraqi prisoners
Joseph Kay, WSWS
...The new revelations on CIA operations highlight once again that the
torture carried out at Abu Ghraib was no aberration. It was one component
of a much broader and systematic policy, the origins of which lie at the
heights of the American government. None of these issues have been raised
in the course of the election campaigns of either of the major parties.
Democrat John Kerry has deliberately avoided bringing up the torture of
prisoners ! at Abu Ghraib and has said nothing about the entire framework
of American policy that lies behind this torture...

Mute the Election Recap...
Blues for Fallujah
GREG MOSES, CounterPunch
Hush. Enough chatter about the stupid American election. I'm trying to
listen to Fallujah right now. Stop telling me how closest advisors to the
aggressor in chief hugged each other this morning in the Oval Office, and
expressed great relief. Scrubbed teeth, shining all around. I'm trying to
hear the sounds of their helicopters overhead, trying to feel the rattle in
my bones as chop, chop, chop, over Falluja, they draft the very air ! into
war...

The CIA and Abu Ghraib
50 Years of Teaching and Training Torturers
JAMES HODGE and LINDA COOPER, CounterPunch
...Throughout the 1950s and early '60s, the CIA -- the lead agency doing
interrogations at Abu Ghraib -- financed and conducted secret research on
coercion and human consciousness, McCoy said. "The scale of that research
should not be minimized. By the late '50s, it reached a billion dollars a
year. The agency was providing the majority of the funding for a half-dozen
leading psychology departments."! The research ranged from using electric
shock, to giving LSD to unsuspecting subjects, to employing sensory
deprivation...

Election Day Announcement: Margaret Hassan to be Turned Over to Mythical
al-Zarqawi
Kurt Nimmo
Now we are told the kidnappers of CARE's Margaret Hassan have threatened to
hand her over to Abu Musab al-Zarqawi—the mythical master terrorist who
supposedly chops off heads and then posts videos of the grisly executions
on the internet—unless British troops are removed from Iraq in 48 hours.
Interesting the kidnappers decided to announce this mid-stride in the
corporate election of the next CEO of the United States. T! he kidnapping
of Hassan makes absolutely no sense logistically for the Iraq resistance,
in fact it severely damages their image ...

a dump and they were horrible, they would smile then throw bricks at the
vehicle. "They hate the Americans. They put their thumbs up for Tony Blair
but put them down for George Bush." During the tour, six soldiers from the
Battle group died, three in combat, although none of these were Cheshires...
