THE EVIL OF TWO LESSERS - Cutting through the convoluted web of deception
on Drant
Multiple Authors, Axis of Logic
...These are men bought and paid for by the same bosses, brains washed in
the same soap, who follow orders and know full well which side of their low
carb croissants are lavishly buttered, reading from two sides of the same
teleprompter, dancing to the same sickening tune without the slightest
sense of rhythm-- Siamese twins, joined at their self-interest and in
perfect zygotic congruence regarding j! ust about everything, differing
only over the degree of politesse one employs when aodomizing some
defenseless ragheads or choosing which brown or yellow dudes are next in
line to be detonated in the name of Freedom, Democracy and our Lord Jesus
Christ...

The "War President" and his Self-Perpetuating Wars
Stan Moore, Media Monitors Network
...President George W. Bush wants to be the war president. He has no other
role and his chosen role is a national disaster. No one in America seems to
recall Bush running in 2000 on the "War President" ticket, yet we now know
that war-making was his hidden agenda all along. Wars of aggression in
Afghanistan and Iraq were planned long before 9/11 and are in reality
resource wars and not anti-terrorism actions...

Iraqis Condemn Prime Minister After Falluja Raid
Reuters
After the latest U.S. air strike on Falluja, enraged residents clasped
wounded children and challenged Iraq's prime minister to visit the town to
see how bombs were hitting civilians, not "terrorists." "Is this a
terrorist? Is this a terrorist? Iyad Allawi come and show us the
terrorists," screamed a man as he fixed a bandage on the head of a small
boy in his arms...

The Grand Illusion
William S. Lind, AntiWar
When asked for their solution to the mess in Iraq, both of America's
presidential candidates - Tweedledumb and Tweedlephony - advance the same
line: "train more Iraqi security forces." Once enough Iraqis have been
trained, they suggest, American roops can be withdrawn and our puppet Iraqi
government can stand on its own six legs. Unfortunately, the problem is not
training, but loyalty...

US forces pound Samarra and Falluja
Aljazeera.net
US and Iraqi forces have tightened their grip on the Iraqi cities of
Samarra and Falluja, killing dozens of people including civilians. A doctor
at a hospital in Samarra, about 100km north of Baghdad on the banks of the
Tigris, said on Saturday that five more bodies had been brought in
overnight. Twenty people were treated for wounds (...) Falluja was also
attacked by US warplanes overnight, the latest in a weeks-long campaign of
aerial bombardments. Seven people ! were killed including a woman and two

What next in Iraq? Follow the oil
Paul Rogers
...But Washington's long-term thinking must go beyond this, and embrace the
possibility that any escalation of the use of heavy military force in the
coming months would still not contain a growing insurgency. This scenario
entails a deeply unstable post-election Iraqi government, and constant
attacks on the US forces supporting it - requiring, in turn, reinforcements
that might even involve the reintroduction of the US draft. If US planners
judged this to be a more l! ikely outcome, what then might be their "Plan
B"?

cominciata a mezzanotte.

quattro operazioni politicamente rilevanti...

Iraqi Resistance Report for events of Friday, 1 October 2004
Translated and/or compiled by Muhammad Abu Nasr, member editorial board The
Free Arab Voice
...In a dispatch posted at 11:54pm Friday night Mecca time (12:55am
Saturday morning local time) the Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent in
Samarra' provided this account of the day of savagery. At about 4pm local
time Friday afternoon US forces assisted by their Iraqi stooge troops
advanced into the city from the north, south, and west to try to evict the
Res! istance that has controlled the city for nearly three months. After US
troops had closed their ring around the city, they were themselves
surprised to find that there was yet another ring around their own forces
to their rear...

Washington's policy of sadism and sexual abuse: excerpts from Seymour
Hersh's Chain of Command
Barry Grey
In his valuable book, Chain of Command, published earlier this month,
investigative reporter Seymour Hersh debunks the official myth that the US
atrocities exposed at Abu Ghraib prison in Baghdad were the work of a
handful of "bad apples" among American military police stationed at the
prison. He presents an irrefutable case that the torture and sexual
humiliation inflicted on Iraqi detainees were the ! result of policy
decisions made at the highest levels of the American military and civilian
command...

America's oligarchy in the mirror of the debacle in Iraq
Bill Van Auken
Mounting violence and a series of statements by top officials in the Bush
administration and the US military command over the past week have given
the lie to claims by the US president and his Baghdad puppet, interim prime
minister Ayad Allawi, that Iraq is well on its way to stability, democracy
and independence. Just days after Allawi appeared before a joint meeting of
Congress to parrot the Bush administration's claims of "steady progress,! "
a report prepared by a private US security contractor cited over 2,300
attacks by Iraqis resisting the US occupation in the last 30 days alone...

Bush-Kerry debate: two candidates committed to war
Bill Van Auken, Socialist Equality Party presidential candidate, WSWS
The first of the presidential debates between President George W. Bush and
Senator John Kerry presented the American public with an empty choice
between two candidates committed to continuing the war in Iraq and
escalating US militarism around the world. The deep-felt sentiments of
millions of Americans, who want an end to the criminal war against the
Iraqi people, found no expression in the de! bate...

French MP: US bombed journalists' convoy
Aljazeera.net
A French MP has accused the US of scuttling his unofficial bid to secure
the release of two French journalists held in Iraq. Didier Julia, an MP for
French President Jacques Chirac's ruling party, said his efforts to release
reporters Georges Malbrunot and Christian Chesnot failed after US troops
opened fire on the convoy attempting to bring them out of Iraq en route to
Syria. Six of the French journalists' Iraqi "escorts" were killed in the US

Kerry and Bush are Both Wrong: Iraqi Troops and Police Will Never Be Loyal
to Allawi or the U.S.
Ahmad Ali (in Baghdad) and Sam Hamod
We have heard a great deal about Iraqi troops taking over for American
troops. In fact, with all the American killing in Fallujah, Baghdad,
Samarra and Ramadi, don't expect any Iraqi to be loyal to America or its
puppet, Iyad Allawi. Bush and Kerry both don't understand the Iraqi mind or
culture. The men the U.S. trains will never be loyal to the U.S. or to

U.S., Iraqi offensive in Samarra could be first in series of major
operations before January elections
Zidan Khalaf, Associated Press
U.S. and Iraqi forces battled their way into the heart of this Sunni
stronghold Friday and moved house to house in search of militants in what
appeared to be the first major offensive to regain control of areas lost to
insurgents before the January elections. More than 100 guerrillas were
killed and 37 captured, according to an Iraqi official. The military said
one American soldier! was killed and four were wounded. Backed by warplanes
and tanks, some 5,000 troops swept in to seize the city hall, the main
mosque and other important sites in Samarra...

Where's the Exit Stategy? What We Didn't Hear at the Debate
RALPH NADER, CounterPunch
Neither President Bush or Senator Kerry have an exit strategy for the war
in Iraq and both of them say we're going to win the war in Iraq-which means
an endless occupation, which breeds resistance, and which does not cut the
bottom out of the insurgency, because mainstream Iraqis are given no light
at the end of the tunnel that they're going to get their country back with
a set schedule under a US military and corporate (i.e. oi! l company)
withdrawal from their nation...

Debates? We Don't Need No Stinkin' Debates

...How long, I wondered, before a re-appointed Bush demands this woman send
her kids to Iraq or Iran or Syria or wherever Dubya and his crew of
Straussian neocons ultimately decide they should be sent as bullet-stoppers
in defense of Israel and for the profit of the Halliburtons and Lockheed
Martins? Or if not a re-appointed Bush, surely Kerry, who tells us the

not the way the Israelis and Americans want...

US job figures in Iraq overstated
Aljazeera.net
The Bush administration has overstated US-funded job figures in Iraq due to
what the government said was an accounting error. But critics on Thursday
said US officials manipulated the figures in order to paint a rosier
picture on the ground (...) State Department figures released on 22
September show the US government overstated by more than 30,000 the number
of Iraqis working on projects funded by the US Agency for International
