EMERGENCY ACTIONS
to STOP the WAR on IRAQ BEFORE it STARTS
- initiated by the A.N.S.W.E.R. Coalition September 14-16
-
Between September 14 and 16, thousands demonstrated
against a new U.S. war on Iraq, in Emergency Actions
called by the A.N.S.W.E.R. ? Act Now to Stop War & End
Racism ? Coalition. Protests took place in Washington
D.C., San Francisco, Oakland, Los Angeles, San Luis
Obispo, Seattle, Fresno and other cities.
In Washington DC, over 100 protesters arrived at 8 am to
picket outside of the hotel where over 100 military
contractors were buying and selling their latest weapons
of mass destruction and Donald Rumsfeld was set to be
their honored guest. On the West Coast, 3,000 marched in
San Francisco, 2,000 in Los Angeles, and many more in
other cities.
The Emergency Actions were initiated as part of
A.N.S.W.E.R.'s campaign to Stop the War on Iraq Before it
Starts, which will culminate with the National March in
Washington DC and join action in San Francisco, set for
October 26, which will be a massive national mobilization.

ANTI-WAR RALLY OUTSIDE AIR FORCE EXPO
About 50 anti-war demonstrators rallied yesterday morning
at Connecticut Avenue and Woodley Road NW near the
Marriott Wardman Park Hotel, where the U.S. Air Force
Association is holding its annual Aerospace Technology
Exposition.
The rally was organized by International ANSWER, a
coalition of anti-war groups.
Protesters chanted slogans opposing possible military
action in Iraq and criticized the Pentagon's spending
policies. Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld was
scheduled as a keynote speaker, but he was unable to
attend.
The expo continues through tomorrow, and protesters said
they plan to demonstrate each day. The Air Force event
features booths from more than 100 defense contractors
promoting everything from air-to-ground missiles to
waterproof combat boots.

Sept. 15, 9:13 AM ET
BY ANGELA WATERCUTTER, Associated Press Writer
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Hundreds of anti-war protesters
marched and spoke out Saturday against any possible
military action in Iraq.
"We believe that this war can be stopped if the people
intervene in the political process," said Richard Becker
of the International Act Now to Stop War and End Racism
Coalition.
At the San Francisco rally attended by about 500 people,
participants held signs saying, "Stop the War In Iraq" and
"Stop Bush's War At Home and Abroad."
In Los Angeles, about 300 people marched and chanted
"George Bush, what do you say? Change regimes in the USA."
at a federal building near the UCLA campus.
"It's really wrong that we're even considering attacking
Iraq," said Jennifer Kelley in San Francisco. "The Iraqis
have made no offensive move. It just seems like (Bush)
wants to finish his father's war."
