DA BAGHDAD A CLICHY-SOUS-BOIS PASSANDO PER DADA
LA RIVOLTA TRADITA DELLA BANLIEUE
Fulvio Grimaldi, Mondocane fuorilinea

How does the President of Iraqi Kurdistan Explain the Meaning of Freedom of
Thought in Iraqi
Haifa Zangana, Alquds
Since the start of its invasion of Iraq and the forces of occupation has
been working tirelessly in to curb of all forms of freedom of though and
speech and basic protection for human rights in direct contradiction to its
own pre-war declarations which is now seen as a mere war propaganda. We
will not fill these pages with the names of academics who have been
systematically assassinated and murdered ! since lists of their names,
respective qualifications, and the way in which they were murdered can be
found on numerous internet websites. The case of Dr Kamal Sayid Qadir, one
of Irbil City’s bright men, is one example of the robbery of the right of
free thought that is now rife in Iraq under occupation. Dr Qadir was
abducted and subsequently sentenced to 30 years in prison because of a few
articles he wrote and published!...

IMF Occupies Iraq, Riots Follow
Matthew Rothschild
Bad enough that the U.S. military is occupying Iraq. Now the IMF is
occupying the country. In December, the International Monetary Fund, in
exchange for giving a loan of $685 million to the Iraqi government,
insisted that the Iraqis lift subsidies on the price of oil and open the
economy to more private investment. As the IMF said in a press release of
December 23, the Iraqi government must be committed to "controlling the
wage and pensions bill, reducing subsidi! es on petroleum products, and
expanding the participation of the private sector in the domestic market
for petroleum products." The impact of the IMF extortion was swift and
brutal...

Greed and Gall: Asking Iraq to Pay for Its Occupation
David Swanson
...So, I was disgusted to see a website called
<http://www.nationalreferendum.org >www.nationalreferendum.org promoting
rebuilding New Orleans with payments from Iraqis. We invaded their country,
killed 100,000 people, left the place a wreck, and neglected our own cities
– so they should pay us? It gets worse. I learned about that website
because Jeeni Criscenzo, a candidate for U.S. Congress, forwarded me an
Email the! group had sent her...

Impeach Bush and Cheney Now!
GREEN PARTY OF THE UNITED STATES
Citing a litany of alleged high crimes and misdemeanors, abuses of power,
and violations of the U.S. Constitution, Green Party leaders urged Congress
to initiate impeachment proceedings against President George W. Bush and
Vice President Cheney as soon as possible. "The evidence that President
Bush has abused his office and betrayed the trust of the American people is
now so overwhelming that failure to undertake impeachment would make
Congress even mo! re complicit in this administration's lawlessness," said
Nan Garrett, Georgia Green Party co-chair and spokesperson for the National
Women's Caucus. "Three more years of Bush and Cheney will do lasting damage
to the rule of law and result in even more death and destruction under
Bush's reckless policies"...

28,000 US Troops Evacuated to Germany
Raed Jarrar, Raed in the Middle
The Total number of US troops injured, announced by the DOD, is kind of
fishy. It seems like the DOD is trying to hide the real numbers or
something. Let's see.. The total number of US soldiers wounded in Iraq,
according to DOD, is less than 16000, and there some other 658 troops from
Afghanistan. Yet, the counter on Global Security indicates that 20,748 US
soldiers were evacuated from Iraq. 2,913 of them were wounded in Action,
5,876 with "non! -battle injuries", and another 11,959 because of
"diseases". (What kind of non-battle injuries and diseases can evacuate
more than 17,000!!!) But anyway, there's more inconsistency. Take a look at
this piece of news that I found today: A total of more than 28,000
soldiers, airmen, sailors and Marines from Operations Enduring Freedom and
Iraqi Freedom have already been treated at Landstuhl hospital, the largest
American medical facility outside the continental United States...

The "we did not know" lie
Imad Khadduri , Free Iraq
...The book said Dr. Alhaddad flew home in mid-September 2002 and had a
series of meetings with CIA analysts. She relayed her brother's information
that there was no nuclear program. A CIA operative later told Dr.
Alhaddad's husband that the agency believed her brother was lying. In all,
the book says, some 30 family members of Iraqis made trips to their native
country to contact Iraqi weapons scientists, and all of them reported that
the programs had been aband! oned. In October 2002, a month after the
doctor's trip to Baghdad, the U.S intelligence community issued a National
Intelligence Estimate that concluded Iraq was reconstituting its nuclear
program"...

Iraqi Resistance Report for events of Tuesday, 3 January 2006
Translated and/or compiled by Muhammad Abu Nasr, member, editorial board,
the Free Arab Voice. ( http://www.freearabvoice.org )
...In a dispatch posted at 7:40pm Mecca time Tuesday, Mafkarat al-Islam
reported that a mass grave of 21 Iraqi Sunnis had been discovered at the
heavy water treatment plant in the south of Baghdad. The correspondent for
Mafkarat al-Islam reported a medical source as saying that he bodies were
found by accident. All were Sunn! is who had been arrested several weeks
ago by puppet "Interior Ministry" forces. The correspondent noted that the
puppet "Interior Ministry," currently at the center of a torture scandal,
only acknowledged the discovery of four bodies all of which, the "Ministry"
claimed, had been killed by Islamists. The bodies of the 21 victims of the
US-installed puppet security service were all taken to a morgue until they
could be handed back to their families...

First US crime of the year ... and lists
Truth About Iraqis
Year 2006. And already US forces have committed a crime - 14 members of the
same family were killed in a US air strike. The Iraqi government took a
rare step and criticized the US action. In one of its usual reactions, the
US military said it would investigate. We all know where these
investigations lead. Nowhere. Or justification. To the 9-year old boy and
his 11-year old sister dug out lifeless from under the rubble, the American
people say Happy New Y! ear...

Entrenched Hypocrisy
Hillary Clinton, AIPAC and Iran
Joshua Frank, www.dissidentvoice.org
...And while AIPAC and Israel pressure the U.S. government to force the
Iran issue to the U.N. Security Council, Israel itself stands in violation
of numerous U.N. Resolutions dealing with the occupied territories of
Palestine, including U.N. Resolution 1402, which demands that Israel
withdraw its military from all Palestinian cities at once. AIPAC’s
hypocrisy is stomach-turning, to say the least. The goliath lobb! ying
organization wants Iran to be slapped across the knuckles while the crimes
of Israel continue to be ignored. And who is propping up AIPAC’s
hypocritical position? Senator Hillary Clinton of New York...

EXCLUSIVE: BILLION DOLLAR BUNKER
EXCLUSIVE U.S. plans Baghdad embassy more secure than Pentagon
Chris Hughes,Mirror.co.uk
AMERICA is to spend £1billion on an embassy in Baghdad "more secure than
the Pentagon". Plans for the hi-tech complex are being kept secret because
of the terrorist threat in Iraq. The exact location is not being released
until later this year but it is likely to be built in the heavily fortified
Green Zone area where the Iraqi government and US military command is
based. Th! e embassy will be guarded by 15ft blast walls and ground-to-air
missiles and the main building will have bunkers for use during air
offensives...

Poverty and fear dominate life for Iraq's Gypsies
Deepa Babington, Reuters
Among the millions of impoverished Iraqis, Jameel Mahmoud Hassan has the
dubious distinction of being among the poorest of all. One of a group of
Iraqi Gypsies who have squatted for years on a fetid patch of land in a
village north of Baghdad, he has spent his life in squalor, and now fear
(...) More recently, Hassan has worried about being rounded up and forced
to move elsewhere by religious militia.
"We have nothing," he says. "We are poor. We're just looking for a safe
place to hide." (...) Under the leadership of Saddam Hussein, Gypsies had
some protection from persecution... The safety net disappeared with
Saddam's overthrow, leaving them open to the whims of religious militia
groups contemptuous of their freewheeling ways.

An Interview with Dr. Saad Jawad
Iraqi Intellectuals and the Occupation
LAITH AL-SAUD
The following interview is part of our continuing effort to provide a voice
for Iraqis in regards to the American occupation. Dr. Saad Jawad is a
prominent political scientist at Baghdad University. Baghdad University,
once one of the finest academic institutions in the Arab world, has
suffered tremendously under the US occupation, not to mention the twelve
year long sanctions that preceded it. Dr. Jawad and I discusse! d the
continued assassination of Iraqi intellectuals, a phenomenon largely
ignored by the western media. Over one thousand Iraqi academics,
intellectuals and scientists have been assassinated since the American
invasion-most of them opposed to the occupation...

The Twin Crises Of 2006
Robert Dreyfuss
The two most pressing foreign policy problems for the Bush administration
in 2006—indeed, they might be called twin crises—are, first, the unraveling
of Iraq and the emergence of a theocracy in Baghdad under the control of
the Shiite religious parties, and second, the serious (though somewhat
overblown and artificial) showdown that is looming over Iran's alleged
nuclear program. Not surprisingly, the crises in Iraq and Iran are closely
related, not least because Iran's ruli! ng clergy is closely allied to the
theocrats in Baghdad...

Saddam prefers death by shooting
Paul Martin, THE WASHINGTON TIMES
Saddam Hussein has told his lawyers that he wants to be shot by firing
squad, not hanged, if sentenced to death during his murder trial, which
resumes later this month in Baghdad (...) "I'm not afraid of death," he
told two of his lawyers ... "Of course I'm not guilty, but I know they want
me dead"... "Threatening me with death doesn't mean anything," Saddam told
the two lawyers. "I don't care less. The life of any one Iraqi is no less
valuable t! han mine." (...) Saddam said he was exultant about the ongoing
insurgency. "I know the Iraqi people will fight to the end," Mr. Ghazzawi
quoted him as saying. "The Iraqi people are patriotic; they cannot accept
foreign rule. Any aggression will be resisted to the end. "The Americans
with their allies will fly out of Iraq very soon, and their puppets will
leave even before the Americans"...

US air raid kills 14 in Iraqi family -official

A U.S. air strike killed 14 members of one family in the oil refining town
of Baiji in northern Iraq, an Iraqi security force spokesman said on
Tuesday. The air raid destroyed one house, killing the 14 people inside,
said the spokesman for the Joint Coordination Center, which handles
information and liaises between U.S. and Iraqi forces. Another four houses

The New Iraq War Strategy: More Bombings, More Civilian Deaths, Less
Likelihood of Success
Commentary on Seymour Hersh's 'Up in the Air'
Michael Schwartz
...As U.S. military strategy in Iraq has begun to unravel, our military has
adopted progressively more vicious methods to attempt to maintain its
control of the country. In the current iteration, this involves escalated
bombing attacks against densely populated urban areas in an attempt to bomb
the Sunnis into submission, and the development o! f anti-Sunni brigades of
Shia and Kurdish troops to inflict punishment on resisting cities...
