... The real reasons for regime change in Syria have less to do with
Hariri’s assassin and more to do with oil and Israel. An April 20, 2003
article in the UK Observer, "Israel seeks Pipeline for Iraqi Oil",
clarifies this point. The Observer notes that Washington and Tel Aviv are
hammering out the details for a pipeline that will run through Syria and
"create an endless and easily accessible source of cheap Iraqi oil for the
US guaranteed by reliable all! ies other than Saudi Arabia". The pipeline
"would transform economic power in the region, bringing revenue to the new
US-dominated Iraq, cutting out Syria and solving Israel's energy crisis at
a stroke." This is the driving force behind the confrontation with Syria.
At present, Bashar al Assad refuses to normalize relations with Israel
until Israel surrenders the land it seized in the Golan Heights during the
1967 war. Israeli hawks have no intention of returning the land and are
planning to remove al Assad instead...

Iraqi Constitution Adopted Despite Two-Third Rejection in Sunni Provinces !

According to their own rules, designers of the Iraqi constitution decided
that it could be rejected if voters in three provinces reject it by
two-third of votes. Well, voters in the three Sunni provinces of
Salahuddin, Al-Anbar, and Ninewah, together, rejected the constitution by
about77 % of the vote. However, the Electoral Commission announced the
adoption of the constitution because voters who rejected it in one provi!
nce did not do that with two-thirds of the vote, which is a controversial
opinion that may be contested...

...9-11 could be attributed to general conditions in the "Greater Middle
East" (a strange designation not used by geographers but needed to place
Afghanistan within the same region as Iraq, a region depicted as a
"breeding-ground for terrorism"). Those conditions could be portrayed as
"generating hatred," being rooted in "extremist Islam," and the latter
could predictably be conflated in the popular mind, e! specially the minds
of Bush's Christian fundamentalist political base, with Islam in general.
So 9-11 could be used as a pretext to attack lots of very different sorts
of Muslims, not because the administration necessarily hates Muslims in
particular, but because it loves to bring land people and resources under
the control of U.S. capital, and Southwest Asia seemed to sit there for the
taking after 9-11...

Yesterday while speaking to a group of military wives in Washington, Mr.
Bush said, "This war will require more sacrifice, more time and more
resolve." Of course this speech of pre-emptive consolation to the news of
the 2,000th death was not in vain, as the announcement came but a few hours
after his speech at the air force base. I wonder how many of those military
wives recall what Mr. Bush said 1,794 dead US soldiers ago when he proudly
announced, "Bring 'em on" b! ack on July 2, 2003?...

member of the defense team, is the beginning of this plot. Al Najdawi

PBS film documents Rumsfeld’s role in authorizing torture

The Public Broadcasting Service’s October 18 edition of "Frontline" aired a
documentary on US torture of detainees held in American prison camps in
Cuba, Afghanistan and Iraq. Entitled "The Torture Question," the report
makes clear that Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld bears direct
responsibility for the brutal methods of interrogation used against US
prisoners. In a climate where the mass media functions primarily as a White
House! and Pentagon propaganda tool, the PBS investigation is a positive
and refreshing exception...

...ABC is calling the deaths the price of progress. I wonder if the people
at ABC head office would view it as progress if they had to drink infested
water, or walk through sewage in their neighborhoods, or dodge bullets from
the trigger-happy. Yes, progress alright. Democracy cannot, should not, and
will not be measured by the power to vote. It will be measured by the
sanctity of human life. The human life the current Iraqi government does

US death toll hits 2,000—grim milestone in a criminal war

Tuesday with the Pentagon’s announcement of three more combat fatalities.
This grim milestone is all the more tragic because the lives of these
soldiers have been sacrificed in a war based upon lies. They have been
killed 7,000 miles from their homes fighting in a war launched for reasons
that have never been publicly stated. The soldiers have died not to put an

control of Iraq’s strategic oil reserves and ensure the global dominance of

Cindy Sheehan plans arrest to protest Iraq war

Cindy Sheehan, mother of a US soldier killed in Iraq, said that she planned
to be arrested outside the White House on Wednesday to protest against US
troops presence in Iraq as US military deaths hit 2,000. "We've identified
the problem and it's not going away. What I think it's going to take now is
nonviolent, peaceful civil disobedience all over the country," Sheehan told
reporters across the street from the White House...

Pentagon nominee aims for more positive Iraq stories

President George W. Bush's nominee to be the Pentagon's chief public
affairs official told Congress on Tuesday he hoped to encourage more
positive stories about the Iraq war by encouraging the practice of
embedding reporters with U.S. troops in Iraq. Dorrance Smith, a former
television producer who spent nine months in Iraq as a senior adviser for
former ambassador Paul Bremer, also defended his controversial article in
the Wall Stree! t Journal in April, in which he said extremists like Osama
bin Laden had "a partner in Al-Jazeera, and by extension, most networks in
the U.S"...
