Fresh US war crime
Truth About Iraqis
...By resistance, I do not mean the foreign filth and the idea of the
Zarqawi. I will use a preposition from now on to identify the Zarqawi
because it is an ideology, not a physical figure. The Zarqawi is an
ideology born and bred in the annals of the intelligence units of foreign
powers. So, in Ramadi, Iraqi resistance "voted" against the occupier and
killed five US soldiers. The response was the butchering of civilians.
Iraqis always knew it would be this way. For every US ! soldier killed
dozens of civilians, insurgents, and anything standing in front of us would
have to die. Cold, blood-thirsty revenge...

He was responsible for the investigation into the two Elite SAS men
disguised as Arab "terrorists"
Michel Chossudovsky, GlobalResearch.ca
Captain Ken Masters, British chief police investigator in Basra died under
mysterious circumstances. The cause of death was not mentioned. According
to a Ministry of Defense spokesman, his death was "not due to hostile
action" nor to natural causes. Ken Masters was Commanding Officer of th! e
Special Investigation Branch of the Royal Military Police. He was
"responsible for the investigation of all in-theatre serious incidents,
plus investigations conducted by the General Police Duties element of the
Theatre Investigation Group." (Statement of Britain's Ministry of Defense,

Curious numbers in Ninevah
Christopher Allbritton, Back to Iraq
Ninevah province, home to the mixed city of Mosul and the besieged city of
Tal ‘Afar, is seeing some very strange numbers (...) Now, several
possibilities spring to mind: Sunni Arabs in the north really love the idea
of the new national charter, but I find this unlikely, to say the least. In
fact, I only suggest it for the giggle factor. Another possibility is that
the vote was blatantly fixed. A third possibility is that the Kurds moved
thousands o! f people into Mosul to skew the vote. Oddly enough, I heard
Sunnis making just this charge in the run-up to the Saturday’s referendum.
A third possibility is a combination of the last two. The vote was rigged
and the Kurds moved people in...

GI Special 3C85A: "It Is Worse Than Vietnam" - October 17, 2005
www.militaryproject.org
The American and British governments seem disconnected from the terrible
reality of Iraq. Tony Blair says the time scale for withdrawal is "when the
job is done." But stop any Iraqi in the streets of Baghdad and the great
majority say the violence will get worse until the US and Britain start to
pull out. They say the main catalyst for the Sunni Arab insurrection is the
US occupation. A deep crisis is turning into a potential! catastrophe
because President George Bush and Tony Blair pretend the situation in Iraq
is improving...

War moves to Syria
Aljazeera.com
Repetitive clashes took place between U.S. and Syrian forces on the Iraqi
border Analysts suggest that the U.S. wars on Iraq and Afghanistan are part
of a broader military agenda to control the Middle; a continuation of the
1991 Gulf War and the NATO led wars on Yugoslavia. The post Iraq war period
has been marked by President Bush’s rhetoric and threats against Damascus,
raising the prospect of another U.S. war in the Middle East, but on Syria
this time...

New Revelations by American Soldiers of Abuse in Iraq
PRNewswire
Another American soldier has come forward to reveal abusive interrogation
techniques by military personnel in Iraq. Tony Lagouranis, a former Army
interrogator at Abu Ghraib and member of a special intelligence team in
Iraq, has given FRONTLINE a firsthand account of his involvement in the
harsh treatment of prisoners. "It's all over Iraq," Lagouranis told
FRONTLINE. "The infantry units are torturing people in their homes. They
would smash people's ! feet with the back of an axhead. They would break
bones, ribs. That was serious stuff"...

believes that the war there was illegal. Flight-Lieutenant Malcolm
Kendall-Smith is to be court-martialled for "refusing to obey a lawful

The Mindless American: A Tragedy In The Making
Doug Soderstrom
...Very few would disagree with the proposition that in Hitler’s Germany
there was a determined effort to brainwash the people so they might support
Mein Fuhrer’s efforts to conquer the world. However, what if one were to
suggest that much the same is occurring in the United States of America,
that there has been a determined effort through the socializing influence
of our schools, the government, the mass media, the churches we attend,
even that of o! ur own parents, to pressure us into believing (just as
Hitler) that our country has received the blessing of God, and because of
this, we therefore have not only the right, but more importantly, through
the use of military weapons, a divine responsibility to see that the world
acquiesces to our needs and expectations. Just as Hitler in the 1930’s
prepared his countrymen to accept the authoritarian control of the Nazi
government, much the same may well be occurring in the United States. Just
as Hitler indoctrinated his people to believe that Germany had the right to
conquer the world, George Walker Bush “in the name of freedom and
democracy” may well be doing the same (preparing the American people to
support his administration’s imperialistic drive to dominate the world)...

VA Seeks to Punish Iraq War Veterans
Gene C. Gerard, OrbStandard
The Veterans Affairs Department is currently reviewing approximately
one-third of the cases of veterans who are receiving disability benefits
for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). After conducting an internal
study, the VA believes that they were too lenient in deciding which
soldiers were eligible for PTSD benefits. Last year, the VA spent $4.3
billion on PTSD disability payments and the VA hopes to reduce these
payments by revoking PTSD benef! its for many veterans. This will be the
final insult to soldiers who were asked to fight a war in Iraq on false
premises...

Equating Common Criminals with Terrorists
Kurt Nimmo, Another Day in the Empire
...Now that Bush has legalized strappado and other horrific techniques (in
the torture and rape camps at Bagram and Abu Ghraib) and it is perfectly
acceptable to kidnap suspected terrorists (and soon car thieves) and
“rendition” them without regard to the Third Geneva Convention and Fourth
Geneva Convention, we can expect common criminals to be swept up in raids
and turned into slaves for the state and the industries of their corporat!

Ever Loyal to Her Masters in Military Intelligence
Judith Miller, the Fourth Estate and the Warfare State
NORMAN SOLOMON, CounterPunch
More than any other New York Times reporter, Judith Miller took the lead
with stories claiming that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction. Now, a few
years later, she's facing heightened scrutiny in the aftermath of a pair of
articles that appeared in the Times on Sunday -- a lengthy investigative
piece about Miller plus her own first-person account of how she got entang!
led in the case of the Bush administration's "outing" of Valerie Plame as a
CIA agent. It now seems that Miller functioned with more accountability to
U.S. military intelligence officials than to New York Times editors...

FLASHBACK: THE AMERICAN PLANS TO EXHAUST IRAQ AND TO STEAL ITS RESOURCES:
FACTS AND FIGURES
MOHAMMED AL-KAYSSI
...So many are the investigations and debates that came up analyzing the
aims of the US administration war-on-Iraq campaign. Although the occupation
of Iraq is against the international law and all the Iraqi people ambitions
and targets, the US administration is insisting on completing its
occupation plans and projects in Iraq. What ever the justifications the
American media or its agents are declaring, ! we, Iraqis, are now very sure
that the main motive for this administration’s war is to control the oil,
the best global source of power, which will enable America, following
long-term plans, to dominate the whole world as the only super power. The
following brief research is emphasizing the impact of the USA plans which
began since the early eighties and continued up to the current Iraq
occupation on the Iraqi economy...

Final Solution in Iraq
Paul Richard Harris, Axis of Logic
Long a master of persuasive writing, albeit not always in the pursuit of
truth, Thomas Friedman has finally revealed his inherent barbarism.
Although he is apparently a ‘Foreign Affairs’ columnist for the New York
Times, for the past five years he has worked as an unembarrassed apologist
for the White House (...) He finishes by saying: “We should arm the Shiites
and Kurds and leave the Sunnis of Iraq to reap the wind”. In other words,
if the US can’t get w! hat it wants, it should provide the weaponry to let
the Iraqis slaughter each other. In short, Friedman abandons his years of
pitching the purported democracy that America was going to bring to Iraq in
favour of an ethno-religious bloodbath...

Washington, predictably, hails Iraq constitution vote
Bill Van Auken, WSWS
...Ninevah includes Mosul, a city of more than 1 million inhabitants that
is at least 80 percent Sunni. Yet, according to Iraqi officials, a tally of
260 of the province’s 300 polling places turned up only 80,000 “no” votes,
compared with 300,000 in favor of the constitution. Such figures are
comprehensible only as an indication of either a mass Sunni boycott of the
poll or massive vote fraud. Ninevah province also includes the city of Tal!
Afar, scene of the recent US military siege that demolished entire
neighborhoods and turned most of its residents into refugees, with no place
to vote. Similar US actions in western Iraq also prevented polling stations
from being set up in many predominantly Sunni towns and villages...

WHIG: Not Even a Radar Blip
Kurt Nimmo, Another Day in the Empire
...Americans really don’t care about WHIG and they don’t care their
president lied to them and launched an illegal and immoral invasion and
occupation of a sovereign nation that did not pose a threat to them. If
Nixon had not resigned, he would have been impeached for high crimes and
misdemeanors. Clinton was impeached and censured for lying about his
adolescent dalliance. Bush invades two countries based on lies and
supposition and he is re-electe! d to a second term. Obviously, we are now
at a point where the government is completely non-responsive to the
people—and the people are so brainwashed and distracted as to not fill the
streets and demand the government resign and Bush face criminal prosecution
for war crimes...

Maxwell Smart in Iraq
Xymphora
Don Adams, who recently died, was most famous for playing Agent Maxwell
Smart in the early television James Bond spoof 'Get Smart'. He had a number
of catchphrases, including 'Would you believe . . .?', used at the
beginning of each of a series of preposterous lies. The increasingly
preposterous stories told by the British government to explain what
recently happened in Basra are starting to sound like Maxwell Smart. Two
SAS soldiers were found dressed in Arab clothes with a car tru! nk full of
mayhem, hanging around an area where there was to be a protest against the
British kidnapping of a local religious leader. When accosted, they managed
to kill an Iraqi policeman, and the ensuing 'rescue' of these two SAS men
led to the destruction of the local jail as well as a riot. The British
initially denied everything, and then were gradually forced to admit some
of the truth, which has culminated in an actual offer to pay for the damage
done...

Iraqis: Civilians Killed in U.S. Bombing
THOMAS WAGNER, Associated Press Writer
U.S. warplanes and helicopters bombed two villages near the restive city of
Ramadi, killing an estimated 70 militants, the military said Monday, though
witnesses said at least 39 of the dead were civilians. The violence on
Sunday occurred a day after Iraq voted on -- and apparently passed -- a
landmark constitution that many Sunnis opposed. As officials continued to
count the millions of paper ballots Monday, the constitution seemed !
assured of passage after initial results showed minority Sunnis had fallen
short in an effort to veto it...

Iraqi Charter Seen Passed, Sunnis Cry Foul
IslamOnline.net
...Sunni leaders responded angrily, some of them saying they suspected
fraud and accusing American officials and the Shiite parties that dominate
the government. Saleh Al-Mutlak, an Iraqi Sunni politician who represents
the National Dialogue movement, said he estimated most Sunni Arabs voted
"No" despite a US-brokered deal with one Sunni political party. He
questioned the validity of any result. "[US Secretary of State] Condoleezza
Rice made a statement,"! he told reporters. Speaking in London as votes
were still being counted in Iraq, Rice said the charter had "probably
passed". "I believe it is a signal to the Electoral Commission to pass the
constitution," Al-Mutlak said...

Some Sunnis suspicious of election results
UPI
Some Sunnis in the town of Ishaki were convinced Saturday the Iraqi
government had rigged the constitutional referendum in favor of Kurds,
Shiites and Iran. Dozens of locals, all planning to vote against the draft
constitution, had been turned away from the single polling station in town,
the San Francisco Chronicle reported. According to election officials all
those rejected were registered at another polling station 3 miles away --
but a driving ban designed to sto! p suicide bomb attacks prevented the
Sunnis from making the trip, effectively disenfranchising them...
