A Last Q&A on Iraq
Jude's Final Thoughts on Iraq
Patricia Koyce Wanniski
...Dear Jude, After I received a copy of your correspondence with Joost
yesterday, I realised that this guy is so rude and still insisting on
something that never happened, so I wrote an email message to one of my
cousins, who works as Managing Director at the Ministry of Health in Iraq,
hoping that he may have some information about the discoveries of these
alleged mass graves. He replied to me today, with information saying that
NO mas! s graves have ever been found except few very small ones here and
there, and those discovered in southern Iraq were graves of Iraqi soldiers
who were either killed by the American army during the withdrawal of the
Iraqi army from Kuwait or killed by the mob in what is called the
"uprising" after the Iraqi army withdrew from Kuwait. So far, he said, no
other graves for Kurds or Shiites have been found at all. In fact, he said,
that the occupation armies, and particularly the US army has committed more
genocide than what is alleged that Saddam did....

No Exit; descending into hell with George Bush
Mike Whitney
The bodies of the mangled and bloated corpses are no where to be found on
America's news programs. Like the countless dead in Iraq they're purged
from the coverage and stripped from the public record. They've been
replaced by the well-scrubbed visage of the Potemkin-president issuing his
comforting words for his people. "New Orleans will rise again," Bush
crowed, invoking the worn phraseology of the slave era. For a White House
that prides itself on appe! arances and spends over $62 million per year on
public relations firms; the Bush monologue on national TV was a dismal
performance. His limp promises of restoration, all ringing with the same
free-market timbre that has left Kabul and Baghdad in a shambles, fell well
short of the mark. The ruinous affects of his tenure are now everywhere to
be seen and even the media's impenetrable smokescreen seems to be lifting.
Disaster follows Bush like a shadow...

British bombs in Basra
Xymphora
...Everybody has come to the obvious conclusion that this is the first
documented proof of the fact that much of the sectarian violence in Iraq is
the work of coalition agents provocateurs, attempting to cause a civil war
in Iraq. While I have no doubt that this intentional process is going on
elsewhere in Iraq (and largely to fit the Israeli agenda, described here
many times before, of breaking the country up into small, unthreatening
statelets, with the additional motive of leadi! ng to the new Israeli ally,
the Shi'ite Empire, to counter the largely Sunni opposition to Israeli
imperial plans), I doubt that the Basra case is an example of it. There
seems to be another conspiracy afoot (...) What I see here is an attempt to
sabotage the British withdrawal...

I Told You So, That British and American "special forces" Were Creating
"Terrorist Acts" and Blaming Iraqis
Sam Hamod
For the past several months, I have been saying and writing that Americans
and British are disguised as Iraqis and doing these "terrorist" attacks and
trying to stir up civil war in Iraq. Now, the proof that backs up my
assertions is here; the British "speical ops" were caught, disguised as
Iraqis, as part of the Mehdi Army no less, and set to do more mischief. So
there you have it (...) So rememb! er, when you hear that Iraqis are
killing Iraqis--as I've said for a long time, Don't you believe it...

Back to 007 mission
Baghdad Dweller
What I find difficult to understand why most of the people behave like
cattle derived by politicians and the media. People, politicians and the
media forget the main problem and started to shift the focus on
sub-problems in an attempt to play down the cause of the real problem. I am
referring here to the “British Insurgents” captured in Iraq, people started
to debate on “if they were handed over to Militia or not” or “is Iraqi
police infiltrated by Militia members or not” but t! hey forget to debate
on:
- Why do SAS members disguise as Iraqis?
- Is it the SAS job to gather information?
- Why do they need two M4, two rocket launchers, anti-tanks rockets, 2
Machineguns, wire cutters, explosives and 2 wigs to gather information?
- How many missions like this one “succeeded” before ?...

British troops in pitched battle in Basra
Chris Marsden and Julie Hyland, WSWS
Bloody conflict between British forces and Shiite civilians, police and
militias has exposed the myth of Iraqi sovereignty and confirmed that the
British Army acts as a colonial occupier. On Monday, September 19, two
British Special Air Service (SAS) soldiers were arrested in the southern
city of Basra. The SAS is the British Army’s covert special operations and
dirty tricks unit. Dressed to look like Arabs, the two soldiers were drivi!
ng a white car, allegedly packed with weapons and explosives, when Iraqi
police challenged them at a security checkpoint...

Iraqi MP accuses British Forces in Basra of "Terrorism"
Al Jazeera - Globalresearch.ca
...[Al-Zufari] We would like to get a clearer understanding of the issue.
What do you think the UK soldiers were doing wearing civilian cloths? The
UK forces did not comment on their presence in that place? [Al-Shaykh] What
would they say? Do you expect them to say that they are terrorists, British
intelligence members working to stir up disturbances in Basra? Basra has
been volatile for four days. I, personally, was a guest i! n Basra two days
ago. I could see that the UK forces were always provoking the Iraqi people
in Basra. There are indiscriminate arrests and pressure...

Hussein Will Not Be Allowed to Represent Himself at Trial
Hoping to discourage 'political grandstanding' by the ex-dictator, Iraqi
legislators enact a rule change that only allows him to choose counsel.
Henry Weinstein and Richard Boudreaux, Los Angeles Times
Iraqi legislators have changed the rules for the forthcoming trial of
Saddam Hussein, preventing the deposed president from representing himself,
according to documents provided to the Los Angeles Times. Under the
original rules for the tr! ial, adopted in December 2003 when U.S.
officials were running the country, Hussein was permitted "to defend
himself in person or through legal assistance of his own choosing." But
under revised rules, adopted without fanfare by the transitional Iraqi
National Assembly on Aug. 11, Hussein only has the right "to procure legal
counsel of his choosing." The same change applies to other defendants whose
special trials, along with Hussein's, are scheduled to begin in
mid-October. The new rules may alleviate the widespread concern among Iraqi
and U.S. officials that Hussein could have used his right of
self-representation to grandstand and spout political propaganda...

More Blatant Lies From CNN!
Jesse, Editor , TVNewsLIES.org
CNN continued their long tradition of lying to the public today! During
their one minute or so that they dedicate to news items other than the one
or two stories they cover during any given hour, they reported about some
tension in Iraq related to some British soldiers who were “rescued” by
British troops. “Rescued!” They told the public that the soldiers were
“rescued!!!!” This is a bold face out and out lie! The soldiers in question
were arrested, shot ! an Iraqi police officer, were dressed up as Arabs,
heavily armed, and the British troops broke them out of jail allowing 150
inmates to escape in the process!!!...

"The Problem in Iraq is the US"
ERIC RUDER
Camilo Mejia was the first U.S. soldier who served in Iraq and went public
with his refusal to re-deploy. He spent nine months in military confinement
for deciding to follow his conscience. Since his release, he has been a
tireless antiwar campaigner--at the side of Cindy Sheehan when she began
her antiwar vigil outside George Bush's ranch in Crawford, Texas, and
traveling to New York to support the St. Patrick's Four, activists ! on
trial for opposing the war. His book, Road from Ramadi, is forthcoming from

NYPD Unplugs Cindy Sheehan, But Not the Antiwar Movement
Joshua Frank
They can’t stop the antiwar movement, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t
trying. On Monday, September 19 Cindy Sheehan spoke in New York City’s
Union Square to a group of supporters and onlookers when police rushed in
to break up her speech as it was winding down. "I was speaking and someone
grabbed my backpack and pulled me back pretty roughly," Sheehan told the
Associated Press. "I was shoved around." Police arrested organizer Paul
Zulkowitz, ! who was charged with disorderly conduct as well as for using
an unauthorized sound device...

GI Special 3C59: War Reports - September 21, 2005
www.militaryproject.org
...But, if you support this war, please do some research on what happens
behind the curtain of war. "What you don't see won't hurt you," is not
being an adult. Because, what is in front of the curtain, is the Disneyland
version of reality. What is behind the curtain of war, may trample your
belief system. Most of the pro-war people I talk to, have a childish
perception of war. And, when they talk about fighting for freedom, it is
always som! eone else's children who do the fighting. When I came back from
Vietnam, I went underground for fifteen years, because the lies of that war
dismantled any sense of patriotism. The only thing I believed in was
mistrust. The war in Iraq is a malignant cancer, just like the Vietnam
War...

12 deaths put U.S. toll in Iraq at over 1,900
STEVEN R. HURST, The Associated Press
The war in Iraq passed a sobering milepost yesterday when U.S. officials
reported 12 more Americans were killed — eight of them members of the armed
forces, raising to more than 1,900 the number of U.S. service members who
have died in the country since the invasion. A Diplomatic Security agent
attached to the U.S. State Department and three private American security
guards were killed when their convoy was hit by a suicide car bo! mber
Monday in the northern city of Mosul, the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad said. The
four were attached to the U.S. Embassy's regional office in Mosul...

Plamegate: The John Bolton Connection
Arianna Huffington
...So here is what we know: We know that Fleitz was the connection to the
CIA, and that Bolton was close to Scooter Libby (and the rest of the
neocons, of course) and Judy Miller (for whom he was an important source,
although the last time she quoted him by name was in 1999 when he was at
the American Enterprise Institute). And here is what we don't know: we
don't know the pathway through which Plame's identity got into Novak's
column. Did Miller learn abou! t Plame from her old chum Bolton? Did she
pass that info on to Libby? Or had Bolton already told Libby? And Rove? Or
was it all just passed around and around in a cozy game of neocon phone
tag? It makes one wonder more than ever before what Bolton and Miller
talked about when he visited her in jail...

CIA Intelligence Reports Seven Months Before 9/11 Said Iraq Posed No Threat
To U.S.
Jason Leopold, Contercurrents
CIA Director George Tenet testified before Congress in February 2001 that
Iraq posed no immediate threat to the United States or to other countries
in the Middle East. But immediately after the terrorist attacks on 9-11,
which the Bush administration has said Iraq is partially responsible for,
the President and his advisers were already making a case for war against
Iraq without so much as providing a! shred of evidence to back up their
allegations that Iraq and its former President, Saddam Hussein, helped
al-Qaida hijackers plan the catastrophe. It was then, after the 9-11
attacks, that intelligence reports from the CIA radically changed from
previous months...

Double Standards in Iraq
British Agents in Local Drag Saved by Cavalry
LINDA S. HEARD, CounterPunch
Monday was one of those rare illuminating days. A juxtaposition of events
starkly exposed Western double standards and made the Iraqi government's
claims of sovereignty even more nonsensical than it already was. Anyone who
tuned into the BBC's HARDtalk program during the day would have been
subjected to Iraq's corpulent marionette of a president Jalal Talibani,
fresh from groveling around the nether regio! ns of George W. (...) When
the Kurdish politician--whose demeanor is more suited to a shisha-puffing
carpet trader than a leader--was faced with a query over his government's
legitimacy at a time foreign soldiers were still stomping all over his
land, he nostalgically looked back to June 2004 when the invaders handed
back sovereignty to Iraqis. He thought it was a great day...

IRAQ: Displaced families return to devastated Talafar
IRIN
Nearly 1,500 displaced Iraqi families have returned to the northern city of
Talafar after Coalition forces ended an operation to rout insurgents hiding
there, but the returnees said dozens of their homes had been totally
destroyed. The Iraq Red Crescent Society (IRCS) said on Tuesday that
despite the returns, thousands of displaced people were still living in
camps surviving on aid from various humanitarian organisations...

End Game
Chris Floyd, Empire Burlesque
This week has seen another major -- and malevolent -- turning point in
Iraq, the significance of which has gone unnoticed by the American press.
The incident in Basra -- where British forces sent tanks against the city's
police to rescue two undercover British agents who had allegedly been
shooting at Iraqi civilians -- has exposed the ugly reality of the
situation in the supposedly quiet and quiescent Iraqi south (...) The war
is lost. Three years after the invasion, the o! ccupation forces control
less and less of the country all the time. The level of wanton violence --
from all sides -- keeps rising. The physical infrastructure of the country
continues to deteriorate. The social fabric is in tatters. "Reconstruction"
has degenerated into outright robbery and all-pervasive graft...

Iraq-Israel oil pipeline 'to reopen'
Anton La Guardia, Telegraph
Israel's finance minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, predicted yesterday that the
British-era oil pipeline from Iraq's northern oilfields through Jordan to
the Israeli port city of Haifa would be reopened. "It won't be long when
you will see Iraqi oil flowing to Haifa," Mr Netanyahu told a group of
British investors in London. "It is just a matter of time until the
pipeline is reconstituted and Iraqi oil will flow to the Mediterranean"...
