Baghdad Bombings: Order out of Chaos
Kurt Nimmo, Another Day in the Empire
Now that al-Qaeda and Abu Musab al-Zarqawi have claimed responsibility for
a dozen explosions in Baghdad, killing at least 152 people and wounding
542—227 alone were butchered in the Shi’ite neighborhood of Kazimiyah—we
can conclude these murderous acts are part of a larger attempt to foment
civil war between Sunnis and Shi’ites in Iraq. It makes absolutely no sense
for al-Qaeda (or the al-Qaeda we read about in the newspapers) to start a !
war with Shi’a Islam, especially when their stated goal is to put an end to
the infidel Anglo-American occupation...

STAND UP! SHUT THE WAR DOWN! MARCH ON WASHINGTON ON SEPTEMBER 24
Editors, Axis of Logic
The September 24 Protest Against the U.S. Government could be the tipping
point. U.S. citizens are finished with the regime in Washington. 60% of
U.S. citizens are adamantly opposed to the war. The mounting casualties and
deaths of U.S. soldiers in Iraq, combined with the failing U.S. economy and
the abject failure of the Bush Regime to prevent the misery and death of
thousands of victims of Hurricane Katrina have the warmonge! rs in
Washington on the run. It is imperative that you do everything you possibly
can to join us in Washington on September 24. Please read how you can take
part in the announcement below sent to us by Troops Out Now!...

Pentagon draft plan calls for preemptive use of nukes
Tom Regan | csmonitor.com
The Pentagon has drafted a revised plan to allow for US military commanders
in the field to ask presidential approval to use nuclear weapons in order
"to preempt an attack by a nation or a terrorist group using weapons of
mass destruction." The Washington Post reported on Sunday that the plan
would also allow for the use of nuclear weapons to destroy "known" enemy
stockpiles of "nuclear, biological or chemical weapons" (...) GlobalSec!

document on its website...

Local Neighborhood Cops as Militarized Thugs
Kurt Nimmo, Another Day in the Empire
You’d think the Mexican military had invaded New Orleans. Well, they have,
but that’s beside the point. You’d think thousands of well-armed thugs are
loose on the streets, killing and terrorizing the inhabitants, thus the
need for cops garbed in cammies, bullet-proof vests, helmets with automatic
weapons. Point is, there is absolutely no need for militarized cops on the
streets of New Orleans...

Tomgram: The Reconstruction of New Oraq
Tom Engelhardt and Nick Turse
...In the decade before September 11th, 2001, "globalization," a word now
largely missing-in-action, was on everyone's lips and we constantly heard
about what a small, small world this really was. In the aftermath of
Katrina, that global smallness has grown positively claustrophobic and
particularly predatory. Iraq and New Orleans now seem to be morphing into a
single entity, New Oraq, to be devoured by the same limited set of
corporations, let! loose and overseen by the same small set of Bush
administration officials. In George Bush's new world of globalization,
first comes the destruction and only then does one sit down at the
planetary table to sup...

Washington’s latest offensive in Iraq
Iron fist in Tal Afar
Socialist Worker
VIRTUALLY AN entire city with a population of more than 200,000 was forced
to flee as an attack by U.S. forces and Iraqi government troops began in
early September. The ongoing assault on Tal Afar--the biggest since the
leveling of Falluja last year--was justified by U.S. military brass as
necessary to cut off “foreign fighters” from joining the Iraqi insurgency.
Yet according to media repor ts, most of the resistance--along wi! th 90
percent of the population--had already left Tal Afar, located near the
Syrian and Turkish borders, before U.S. troops used air strikes and
artillery to level the city...

20 Appalling lies we were told about Iraq war
Islamonline.com
Today, after more than three years of Bush's stirring declaration of war on
Iraq, numerous lies which have been spread by the Administration had been
exposed and it’s hard to keep track. It seems that it’s part of Bush’s
foreign policy. After an astonishing two years of cowardice, the mainstream
press has finally started during the past year to draw the world’s
attention to the unconscionable level of the administrative deception. But
they seem surpris! ed to find that when it comes to Iraq war, the Bush
isn't prone to the occasional lie of expediency but, in fact, almost never
told the truth...

George Galloway returns for a speaking tour
Exposing the big lie
Socialist Worker
GEORGE GALLOWAY is the British antiwar leader and newly elected member of
parliament who electrified the U.S. in May when he put George Bush’s
congressional allies on trial during an appearance before a Senate
subcommittee. The subcommittee’s investigation of the United Nations
oil-for-food program accused him of corruption, but the fiery
Galloway--fresh from an election victory against an ally of British Prime
Mi! nister Tony Blair, who had engineered Galloway’s expulsion from the
Labour Party--turned the tables on them. CNN’s Wolf Blitzer described
Galloway’s speech in the Senate as “a blistering attack on U.S. senators
rarely heard” in Washington. This month, Galloway returns to the U.S. for a
speaking tour called “Stand Up and Be Counted: No to War and Occupation”...

News From Behind The Facade
John Pilger
...Iraq and New Orleans are not far apart. On 13 April, 2003, Matt Frei,
the BBC's Washington correspondent, reported the bloodbath of the American
invasion with these words: "There's no doubt that the desire to bring good,
to bring American values to the rest of the world, and especially now to
the Middle East... is now increasingly tied up with military power." Frei's
apologies for the Bush regime from in front of the White House, and
specifically for the architect of the! slaughter in Iraq, Paul Wolfowitz,
were consistent with his reporting from New Orleans, which was vivid. On 5
September, he described battle-ready troops of the 82nd Airborne trudging
through the streets of New Orleans as the "heroes of Tikrit." Most of the
killing in Tikrit and elsewhere in Iraq has been done not by "insurgents"
but by such "heroes": a fact almost never allowed in the "coverage",
whether it is on Fox or the BBC. Shaking his head in New Orleans, Frei
wondered why Bush had done so little. Reality's intrusion was complete...

Iraqi Resistance Report for events of Wednesday, 14 September 2005
Translated and/or compiled by Muhammad Abu Nasr, member, editorial board,
the Free Arab Voice. ( http://www.freearabvoice.org )
...In a statement posted on its website Wednesday evening, the Association
of Muslim Scholars of Iraq denounced the bombing attack in al-Kazimiyah as
a “painful event that was unjustifiable regardless of the reasons or
motivations that led to it.” The statement from the highest Sunni Muslim
religious authority in occupi! ed Iraq said that the US occupation and the
puppet “Interim Government” bore responsibility for everything that takes

The "Democratization" of Iraq: Not a Prayer for the People
Dr. Gerry Lower, Axis of Logic
...Bush began beating the drums of war without provocation. Saddam Hussein
and the Iraqi's had weapons of mass destruction (not) and direct links to
al Qaida terrorism (not). When original justifications for an unjustifiable
war proved to be unjustifiable, new justifications were fabricated. The
democratization of Iraq became Bush's magnanimous gift to the Iraqi people.
Implicit in Bush's program is the notion that he knows ! what is best for
the people of both America and Iraq. He does not. Implicit in Bush's
program is the notion that his changing objectives in war still justify his
unprovoked violence. They do not. Implicit in Bush's revised program is the
notion that he knows what democracy is and what it is not. He knows
neither....

Sir, No Sir! An Interview with David Zeiger
Jonathan Stein, Mother Jones
The Oleo Strut was a coffeehouse in Killeen, Texas, from 1968 to 1972. Like
its namesake, a shock absorber in helicopter landing gear, the Oleo Strut’s
purpose was to help GIs land softly. Upon returning from Vietnam to Fort
Hood, shell-shocked soldiers found solace amongst the Strut’s regulars,
mostly fellow soldiers and a few civilian sympathizers. But it didn’t take
long before shell shock turned into anger, and that anger into action. Th!
e GIs turned the Oleo Strut into one of Texas’s anti-war headquarters,
publishing an underground anti-war newspaper, organizing boycotts, setting
up a legal office, and leading peace marches. David Zeiger was one of the
civilians who helped run the Oleo Strut...

National Guard, the Gulf Coast and the War in Iraq
Nancy Lessin and Charley Richardson, Military Families Speak Out,
"Stay at home and serve your country" was the slogan used to attract men
and women into service to their communities and their country in the
National Guard. The promise to the men and women of the Guard was also a
promise to citizens of the various states that they would have a force
available to them in time of emergency. One weekend a month, two weeks each
year, those who signed up to serve in t! he state militia known as the
National Guard trained to protect Country and Constitution and to provide
aid in times of local emergencies such as forest fires, floods, hurricanes,
blizzards, and civil unrest. National Guard soldiers have specifically been
trained to assist in emergencies such as the one that Hurricane Katrina
brought to the Gulf Coast on August 28-29, 2005. Unfortunately, about 35%
of Louisiana's and 40% of Mississippi's National Guard troops have been
deployed to Iraq - to a war that has nothing to do with protecting Country
and Constitution...

Why beg for funds?
Robert Thompson, Axis of Logic
Mr George W. Bush's Administration has spent more taxpayers' money on
funding terror than a simple soul such as myself can even imagine.
Following in the wake of its predecessors, it continues to fund the Zionist
terror in the Holy Land, and it has added a new dimension to this misuse of
funds by initiating the direct war, i.e. using its own troops, against the
people of Iraq and the occupation of their country, with the help of its
most supine (and/or most easi! ly coerced) client countries...

The Iraqis have suffered a 9/11 for over two years now ... on a daily basis!
Mary MacElveen
As I have consistently written, you do not bomb a country into democracy
... you do so by setting an example ... and I stand by that statement after
reading an AP article: “Suicide Bomber, Gunmen Kill 105 in Iraq.” A suicide
bomber killed 88 people looking for work and wounding 227 ... this does not
sound like a democracy, but complete chaos. While it was suicide bombers
and not American soldiers who did this, Bush is resp! onsible for such acts
of violence by our invasion into a sovereign country known as Iraq.
Meanwhile the new Iraqi leaders, who are basically Bush’s puppets, are
still drafting their constitution. How does one have a constitution or
think of drafting one when surrounded by utter chaos and anarchy?...

David Horowitz: American Red Cross Fundraiser?
Brandy Baker
... The American Red Cross addresses attempted fraud on their website by
listing their authorized internet donation sites (CONVIO, MSN, Network for
Good, Yahoo, Amazon.com, and Apple I Tunes): “All official sites collecting
money on behalf of the American Red Cross should link to one of the approve
sites listed below.” Further down the page, in bold print, the American Red
Cross emphasizes: “If the web address you are about to make a donation
through! does not exactly match one of these websites, do not donate
through that website.” On his websit Frontpagemag.com, David Horowitz took
it upon himself to collect money for the American Red Cross (...) Click on
the link to give money on Horowitz’s site and you will not see a link to
the American Red Cross’s donation page or any of its approved collectors
(...). Located at the bottom is not a mailing address for the Red Cross or
their toll free number (1-800-HELP-NOW) but one sentence: “Paid for by the
Center for the Study of Popular Culture. All contributions are processed
through an encrypted, dedicated, secure server.” The CFSPC, a right-wing
foundation Horowitz co-founded to fund his reactionary attacks on
reparations, the anti-war movement, and now, as Bill Berkowitz has recently
pointed out, immigrants...
