SUDAN-DARFUR
USA, UE, Israele e Vaticano uniti nella lotta
Il complotto imperialista, la complicità pacifista
Fulvio Grimaldi
Hugo Chavez, sarebbero già toccati interventi umanitari, o operazioni
terroristiche al di là della limitata sfera geografica del Darfur...

Resistance in Iraq, true and false
Interview Mohammed Hassan by David Pestieau
LAI
...The problem today is that the real resistance, led by the Resistance
General Command (which includes the main components of the resistance) is
not reflected in our mainstream media. A national resistance chief declared
to an Arab television station from Jordan that: « There are two resistances
in Iraq. A true one with a national project which aims at driving out the
occupying forces and which attacks the US army and i! ts local allies. And
a false one, which has been created to discredit the true resistance and
which attacks mosques and markets»...

Palast for Conyers: The OTHER ' Memos' from Downing Street and Pennsylvania
Avenue
Greg Palast
It's official: The Downing Street memos, a snooty New York Times "News
Analysis" informs us, "are not the Dead Sea Scrolls." You are warned,
Congressman, to ignore the clear evidence of official mendacity and
bald-faced fibbing by our two nations' leaders because the cry for
investigation came from the dark and dangerous world of "blogs" and
"opponents" of Mr. Blair and Mr. Bush. On May 5, "blog" site Buzzflash.com
carr! ied my story, IMPEACHMENT TIME: "FACTS WERE FIXED," bringing the
London Times report of the Downing Street memo to the US media which seemed
to be suffering at the time from an attack of NADD -- "news attention
deficit disorder"...

Was it 'fragging'?
GI casualties increase in Iraq
Greg Butterfield, Workers World
First Lt. Louis Allen and Capt. Philip Esposito, two officers assigned to a
New York National Guard unit in Tikrit, Iraq, were killed in their sleep on
June 7. The Pentagon is investigating their deaths as a possible
“fragging”—an act of retaliation by a rank-and-file soldier or soldiers.
Four explosions destroyed the room where Esposito, a company commander and
Wall Street broker, and Allen, the company operations office! r and son of
a New York City cop, were sleeping in a presidential residence commandeered
by the U.S. military. The cause of death was initially reported as
“indirect fire” from a mortar attack. But by June 11, the New York Daily
News reported, the Pentagon was investigating “suspicious circumstances...

The Iraqi Amnesty that is not an Amnesty
Kurt Nimmo, Another Day in the Empire
According to the Associated Press this morning, “U.S. and Iraqi officials
are considering difficult-to-swallow ideas—including amnesties for their
enemies—as they look for ways to end the country’s rampant insurgency and
isolate extremists wanting to start a civil war.” As per usual, it does not
take much for the corporate media to get things wrong—all they need is the
first sentence. The resistance is not an “insurgency.” My diction! ary
defines “insurgency” thus: “an organized rebellion aimed at overthrowing a
constituted government through the use of subversion and armed conflict.”
Resistance against occupation in Iraq began almost immediately, when there
was no “constituted government” (because it was bombed to rubble, along
with thousands of Iraqi civilians), and the current “government” is not
legitimate because it was imposed by the United States and its army of
occupation...

Iraqi Resistance Report for events of Wednesday, 15 June 2005
Translated and/or compiled by Muhammad Abu Nasr, member, editorial board,
the Free Arab Voice. ( http://www.freearabvoice.org )
...Puppet so-called al-Husayn Brigade forces of the puppet so-called “Iraqi
interior ministry” launched a campaign of sectarian arrests targeting the
Sunni population of the city of al-Hillah south of Baghdad on Wednesday.
The al-Hillah correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported witnesses as
saying that at dawn on Wednesd! ay, the puppet forces launched a campaign
in which they stormed into homes, beat up peaceful residents, and threw
them to the ground in front of their wives and children. More than 140
local Sunni citizens were arrested in the raids. The Mafkarat al-Islam
correspondent reported that among those hauled away were a number of
disabled persons who cannot move except with assistance...

Problems Bigger Than Bush
A BUZZFLASH READER CONTRIBUTION
...Now it seems as though the Downing Street Memo has finally woken some
people up. There is growing pressure to get to the bottom of Dubya's War.
In a perfect world we'd see Dubya, Cheney, Rummy, Frist, DeLay and all the
PNAC traitors behind bars in a few years. Even if all the American war
criminals are ultimately brought to justice there is still something that
bothers me greatly. Even if justice is done in this particular case there
are troubling signs! for the future. We have allowed our Constitution to be
ignored for far too long and we are losing everything it was supposed to
protect for us and our posterity...

Nazis in Iraq? James Taranto Decontextualizes Dick Durbin
Kurt Nimmo, Another Day in the Empire
James Taranto of the War Street Journal is miffed at Senator Dick Durbin.
It seems Mr. Durbin is upset by what happens on a regular basis in Bush’s
torture and sexual humiliation gulag and he said as much on the Senate
floor (...) James Taranto didn’t flinch. “We are fighting an enemy that
murdered 3,000 innocent people on American soil 3 1/2 years ago and would
murder millions more if given the chance—and according t! o Dick Durbin,
our soldiers are the Nazis.” (...) Point is, we have no idea who is
responsible for nine eleven, although “conservatives” (now more accurately
termed dogmatic warmongers) like Mr. Taranto need not a lick of evidence to
pad their claims (evidence, I might add, carted off lickety-split by FEMA)
and he knows not who killed those hapless 3,000. But this pales in
comparison to his wild-eyed assertion that this illusory (or unidentified)
“enemy” will “murder millions more if given the chance.” Of course, for
Taranto, the “enemy” consists of ill-defined Muslim “terrorists” in the
Osama-Zarqawi mold and for the Strausscons virtually all Muslims are
potential terrorists and mass murderers...

More Damning Than Downing Street
Paul Rogat Loeb, ZNet
...Earlier this month, Jeremy Scahill wrote a powerful piece on The
Nation's website, describing a huge air assault in September 2002,
"Approximately 100 US and British planes flew from Kuwait into Iraqi
airspace," Scahill writes. "At least seven types of aircraft were part of
this massive operation, including US F-15 Strike Eagles and Royal Air Force
Tornado ground-attack planes. They dropped precision-guided munitions on
Saddam Hussein's major western air-! defense facility, clearing the path
for Special Forces helicopters that lay in wait in Jordan. Earlier attacks
had been carried out against Iraqi command and control centers, radar
detection systems, Revolutionary Guard units, communication centers and
mobile air-defense systems. The Pentagon's goal was clear: Destroy Iraq's
ability to resist." Why aren't we talking about this? As Scahill points
out, this was a month before the Congressional vote, and two before the UN
resolution...

The Weapon of Peace
Joe Carr, Electronic Iraq
..."They [the U.S.] want to make civil war between the Sunni and the
Shiite" one said, "but civil war is impossible because we are all so mixed
together. For instance, my sister married a Sunni, and we go pray together
in the mosque. They push all Iraqis to make war with each other; they even
try to divide the Shiite. The U.S. and the surrounding countries don't want
Iraq to be safe because its oil could make it too powerful"...

Downing Street Memos – the silence is deafening
William Bowles, I'n'I
...As the memos pour forth from who knows where (somebody on the inside is
obviously very pissed off with the actions of the Blair government), aside
from the two articles in the Sunday Times, as far as I’ve been able to
ascertain not a single mainstream media outlet in the UK has picked up on
what is now known as DSM or the Downing Street Memos. Of course it’s not
too difficult to figure out why; the story is dynamite!...

New Memos Detail Early Plans for Invading Iraq
John Daniszewski LATimes Staff Writer
...The new documents indicate that top British officials believed that by
March 2002, Washington was already leaning heavily toward toppling Hussein
by military force. Condoleezza Rice, the current secretary of State who was
then Bush's national security advisor, was described as enthusiastic about
"regime change." Although British officials said in the documents that they
did not think Iraq's weapons programs posed an immediate ! threat and that
they were dubious of any claimed links between the Iraqi government and Al
Qaeda, they indicated that they were willing to join in a campaign to
topple Hussein as long as the plan would succeed and was handled with
political and legal care...

On Loyalty
An Open Letter to US Troops in Afghanistan and Iraq
STAN GOFF, CounterPunch
...A young friend of mine, Patrick Resta, who recently returned from Iraq,
and who is now a member of an organization called Iraq Veterans Against the
War, recently told me, "My platoon sergeant tried to get us to violate the
Geneva Convention, and when we resisted, he threatened us with punishment.
He told us that'the Geneva Convention doesn't exist in Iraq, and that is in
writing at the Brigade level.'" (...) But t! hen again, there wasa
memorandum that came down that suggested the Geneva Conventions were void
in Iraq. It didn't come from the Brigade level, though; it came from
fucking George W. Bush's office. And it's a lie. That's why they sat there
in front of Congress before they made the author of that memo into the
Attorney General of the United States - get your head around that- and
denied that they meant it. But it is a lie. You do not have to follow
illegal orders EVER, under any circumstances, and you ARE bound by
International Law. You should also be bound by what you know is right, by
your sense of plain common decency...

The "War on Terror" and Decent Human Societies
Ali Al-Hail, Al-Jazeerah
...Other estimates of under-5 infant mortality in Occupied Iraq and
Afghanistan come from the LATEST UNICEF REPORT (2005) (see:
<http://www.unicef.org >http://www.unicef.org /) which states that in 2003
the under-5 infant mortality was 110,000 in Iraq and 292,000 in Afghanistan
as compared to about 1,000 in the invading and occupying country Australia
(noting that these countries have populations of about 25, 24 an! d 20
million, respectively). Web-accessible WHO (2005) and medical literature
data indicate that the annual per capita medical expenditure in Occupied
Iraq and Afghanistan in 2004 was US$37 and about US$10, respectively, as
compared to US$7,000 in the US and US$3,100 in Australia. The Ruler is
responsible for the Ruled and thus the horrendous post-invasion avoidable
mortality in Occupied Iraq and Afghanistan constitutes PASSIVE GENOCIDE.

Congressman Maurice Hinchey believes it is time for a Resolution of Inquiry
Kevin Zeese , DemocracyRising.Us
Congressman Maurice Hinchey (D-NY) became the first Member of Congress to
urge the first step toward impreachment -- a Resolution of Inquiry. He
spoke to the media on June 13, 2005 saying: "Bush made the policy, then
altered, twisted and distorted the facts to fit the policy." (...) Hinchey
told AfterDowningStreet.org on Monday, "I think a Resolution of Inquiry is
completely appropriate at this stage. It's! something that should be done."

Damning Evidence Can't be Ignored
David Swanson and Jonathan Schwarz
Since its publication May 1 by The Sunday Times of London, the so-called
Downing Street memo has dominated the media in Britain and on the Internet
in the United States. The memo is the official minutes from a secret
meeting about Iraq held by British Prime Minister Tony Blair and his inner
circle July 23, 2002. The significance of the memo - and additional leaked
British documents now surfacing in public view - can hardly be overstated.
They co! nceivably could lead to impeachment proceedings against President
Bush...

Why are we in Iraq? It begs for an Answer
Steve Berg, Star Tribune
As a former Washington reporter I've got a question that gnaws at me night
and day, and, were I still occasionally hanging around the White House
press room, I'd be eager to ask it. It's quite a simple question, really,
but no one seems to be asking it and no one's quite sure what the answer
might be. So, here goes: Why are we in Iraq? It kind of hangs in the air,
doesn't it? But every time another American kid gets killed or another 20
Iraqis get! shredded into bloody pieces, the question returns with a bit
more urgency...

Deep Throat of Downing Street
Jefferson Morley, washingtonpost.com Staff Writer
Deep Throat now has an English accent. Reporter Michael Smith of the Sunday
Times of London scored an international scoop this weekend with a story
about a sensational Iraq war document provided by an anonymous high-level
official source who, like W. Mark Felt of Watergate fame, seems to have
taken up a mission of helping an investigative reporter probe allegations
of misconduct and cover-up (...) Like the now-famous Downing Street Me! mo
published by the Sunday Times on May 1, the revelation raises the
intriguing question of who is risking jail time by leaking top-secret
documents to Smith...

Five US marines killed by bomb in W. Iraq
Reuters
Five U.S. marines were killed in Iraq when their vehicle struck a bomb near
the violent western town of Ramadi, the U.S. military said on Thursday. Its
statement gave no details of Wednesday's attack but it was the second time
in a week that insurgents have inflicted such a high death toll on marines
in the same area in a single blast; it strengthens the impression that
guerrillas have developed more sophisticated bombing techniques...
