British MP George Galloway on Al-Jazeera: Calls for Bush, Blair, Koizumi,
and Berlusconi to Stand Trial
MEMRI
...The people who invaded and destroyed Iraq and have murdered more than a
million Iraqi people by sanctions and war will burn in Hell in the
hell-fires, and their name in history will be branded as killers and war
criminals for all time. Fallujah is a Guernica, Falluaja is a Stalingrad,
and Iraq is in flames as a result of the actions of these criminals. Not
the resistance, not anybody else but these cri! minals who invaded and fell
like wolves upon the people of Iraq. And by the way, those Arab regimes
which helped them to do it will burn in the same hell-fires...

Most Costs of Iraq War Remain Immeasurable
Chris Shumway, The NewStandard
With the recent approval of more than $60 billion in supplemental funding
for the war in Iraq, the US Congress has now authorized nearly $192 billion
to pay for combat operations, occupation expenses and military support
costs through 2005, according to an analysis by the Congressional Research
Service (CRS), the non-partisan public policy research arm of Congress. As
extensive as the military costs are, the full human, economic, cultural a!
nd ecological costs of the Iraq war – including the damage to the country's
civilian infrastructure and health care system, the destruction of
antiquities and looting of cultural landmarks, and widespread environmental
degradation – remain largely unknown but appear to be mounting...

Bush and Blair Lie to the World again - Enough is Enough
DJPAULEDGE.com
Yesterday, George Bush and Tony Blair LIED before the world again..Harry
Truman once said of Richard Nixon, "He's one of the few in the history of
this country to run for high office talking out of both sides of his mouth
at the same time and lying out of both sides", but if ever a description
was to be applied to Bush and Blair, this would be it. How long is this
going to go on? How long are these two war criminals going to be allowed to
LI! E repeatedly to the world before anything is done...? How long is it
before society steps in and says no more lies, no more deaths of US Troops
or Iraqi citizens for lies, no more destruction of the constitution and
Bill of Rights for lies?...

French Journalist Describes Mistreatment by U.S. Forces During Siege of
Fallujah
Democracy Now!
French TV journalist Grégoire Deniau describes his ordeal in U.S. custody
in Iraq. He was detained for a day during the siege of Fallujah in April
2004. He says despite showing his passport and French press ID, U.S.
soldiers forced him to kneel for hours, gaffer-taped a hood over his face
and hurled insults at him, calling him a dog and accused him, as a
Frenchmen, of being pro-Arab. Deniau says he was released late at! night,
in the middle of the desert and was warned by the soldiers that US forces

The Smoking Bullet in the Smoking Gun: Bush Began Iraq Invasion in 2002
Democracy Now!
...What the British Times of London published last weekend was statistics
from the British defense ministry that showed that in the second half of
2002 -- let's remember that the invasion of Iraq officially began in March
of 2003 -- that from May 2002 until the end of 2002, that the United States
and Britain doubled the amount of attacks that -- the number of attacks
that they were carrying out against Iraq, from the whole of 2! 001. So,
what you saw was the Bush administration ordering attacks, offensive
attacks on Iraq, that were intended to take out communications
infrastructure in the country, the ability of commanders in the Iraqi
military to communicate with one another, pretty much defensive mechanics
for the country, and these attacks were happening with the justification
that they were protecting the so-called no-fly zones in Iraq...

A show trial in the making: Iraqi officials outline charges vs. Saddam Hussein
Joseph Kay, WSWS
...Iraqi officials have openly acknowledged that Hussein’s trial is being
moved forward entirely for political purposes. According to an Associated
Press account, “Iraqi authorities believe the trial against Saddam...will
have a major effect on curbing the violent insurgency.” That is, they see
the trial of Hussein as a means of intimidating the section of the Iraqi
population that is engaged in active opposition to th! e American military
and the new Iraqi government. It is intended to be nothing more than a
pretext for executing Hussein...

FEATURE-Iraqi Palestinians squeezed by security crackdown
Seif Fouad, Reuters
Palestinian refugee Thaier Noureddine never wanted to leave Iraq, even if
he could return to the land his family fled after the 1948 Middle East war.
But he's been desperate for a way out since Iraqi security forces arrested
his brother Ghazwaan and three other Palestinians in a crackdown on foreign
fighters from Arab countries and Iraqi guerrillas suspected of "terrorist"
attacks. "He did nothing wrong. Is being a Palestinian a crime?"!
Noureddine asked...

Alvin Powell, Harvard News Office

not making progress toward key objectives in Iraq and called for American
troops to pull out "as soon as possible" during a speech Tuesday (June 7)

Masters of deception
Sharon Smith, Socialist Worker
...Bush’s claim came as appalling news began to emerge from Falluja, a city
of 250,000 people destroyed by U.S. bombs in November 2004 that remains
occupied by U.S. Marines. “There are plenty of women in Falluja who have
testified they were raped by American soldiers,” one resident told
journalist Dahr Jamail. Mohammed Abdulla, executive director of the Study
Center for Human Rights and Democra! cy, said, “There are daily war crimes
being committed in Falluja, even now.” Only half of Falluja’s residents
have returned since last year’s siege. Most found their homes destroyed.
They live in tents, without electricity or access to clean water, and
curfews don’t allow civilians on the streets after 9 p.m...

Right-wingers to Bush: It’s Okay to Urinate on Hadjis
Kurt Nimmo, Another Day in the Empire
WorldNetDaily, “the world’s leading independent news site” (so declares
Joseph Farah, the site’s gumptious huckster), has posted an article
suggesting it’s not only OK to piss on Muslim detainees (otherwise known as
abductees), but “our troops” and their bosses in the Pentagon—and, indeed
the president himself—should never, ever apologize for such behavior
(including torture and murder), in fact the Muslims should get down! on
their hands and knees and thank us for pissing on them—and bombing their
water purification plants, mosques, hospitals, orphanages, medicine
factories, sewage treatment plants, etc. I’m exaggerating—but not much...

Iraqi govt accused of sponoring state terrorism

An influential Iraqi Sunni Muslim group accused the government on Tuesday
of "sponsoring state terrorism" by launching a massive crackdown on
insurgents in and around Baghdad which it said mainly targeted the Sunni
Arabs. "The government is sponsoring state terrorism, using its interior
ministry to arrest the Sunni Arabs, which is aimed at provoking sectarian
tension between Sunni and Shiite Muslims," Sheikh Abdul Salam al-Kubaisi, a
senior member of the A! ssociation of Muslim Scholars, told reporters at
its Baghdad headquarters...

US Seals Off ‘Anah As “Punishment” In “Operation Slithering Snake”
Muhammad Abu Nasr, Free Arab Voice; Edited For Publication By JUS
US occupation forces moved in dozens of armored vehicles and encircled the
town of ‘Anah, east of al-Qa’im in western Iraq, at dawn on Monday.
Witnesses told Mafkarat al-Islam that the Americans closed the roads
linking the city with the outside world and prevented any of the city’s
residents from entering or leaving, even on foot. A physician in the main
hospital in ‘Anah told Mafk! arat al-Islam by telephone (since the
correspondent could not get into the city after the Americans had blockaded
it) that the Americans had killed an entire Iraqi family of a man, his wife
and their three children when they tried to get out of the city...

Translated and/or compiled by Muhammad Abu Nasr, member, editorial board,
the Free Arab Voice. http://www.freearabvoice.org
...Dozens of Iraqis rallied to protest the American practice of hiding
casualty figures from the media and the public on Tuesday. Denouncing the
Iraqi puppet “government” for “lying,” relatives of Iraqi collaborators
killed while serving in the puppet army and puppet security forces
assembled at the First Military Academy in southeas! t Baghdad which the
current regime uses to train officers of the line for the
American-controlled forces. The demonstrators told the correspondent for
Mafkarat al-Islam that the puppet authorities return the corpses of their
sons and brothers in clandestine circumstances under a cloak of total
secrecy, for fear that the real number of puppet troops and police killed
in the war against the Resistance will be published...

Iraq’s nightmare grows worse under the U.S. occupation
“People can only take so much”
Eric Ruder
A SAVAGE crackdown in Baghdad carried out by the U.S. military and its
Iraqi allies has stoked fear and added to the suffering of the people U.S.
officials regularly claim to be “liberating.” Operation Lightning--a huge
operation involving 40,000 Iraqi troops and 10,000 U.S. soldiers--was
supposed to round up resistance fighters and “pacify” the capital and
surrounding areas. Instead, the Pentagon’s heavy-! handed tactics have
infuriated residents--creating new reservoirs of support for those actively
opposing the U.S. occupation. Already, U.S. military sweeps have sucked up
more than 1,000 Iraqis...

Barcelona Tribunal: ’Iraq says resistance is justified’
Sharon Black
Given the history of this city's role in the movement opposing the U.S.
invasion of Iraq, it's not surprising that Barcelona was the site of an
important three-day tribunal--which ruled May 22 that many of the acts
involved in the U.S. invasion and occupation of Iraq constitute war crimes.
On Feb. 15, 2003, Barcelona, Catalonia, saw the world's biggest protest
against the impending U.S. war on Iraq. Over 1.5 million people clogged the
city's str! eets (...) The May tribunal's conclusions support sovereignty
for Iraq and the Iraqi people's right to resist. They call for all military
contingents to immediately leave Iraq, dismantle their bases and and cease
repressive rule...

Justice Is Swift and Deadly in Baghdad
Jeffrey Fleishman, LATimes Staff Writer - Iraqtunnel
The blacksmith, the builder and the laborer were sentenced to death just
before noon. The murder victim's son cried out, "God is great! God is
great!" Bowed and unshaven, the murderers were cuffed and quietly led away.
Someone said they must be guilty. An innocent man would yell in protest
until his voice disappeared. The trial had lasted two hours. It was the
third time since the end of Saddam Hussein's regime that the de! ath
penalty had been handed down. Iraq is at war and justice is tenuous. The
defendants at last week's trial never met the lawyer who argued their case.
They weren't allowed to introduce medical or other evidence. There was no
cross-examination of prosecution witnesses, because there were none...

Marines Jail Contractors in Iraq
Tension and Confusion Grow Amid the "Fog of War"
David Phinney, Special to CorpWatch
...Was this simply a case of "friendly fire" -- the term used when soldiers
of the same flag shoot at one another by mistake? Is the confusion just a
product of the "fog of war"? Or does it reflect a larger problem in Iraq,
where the uniformed military works side-by-side with an estimated 25,000
armed civilian security guards? The contractors are either paid by the
Pentagon or b! y reconstruction contractors. Some wear camouflage gear but
many dress casually and carry high-tech weaponry in an environment teeming
with armed attackers who also eschew military uniforms. Like their enemies,
private military contractors also travel in marked military vehicles. The
contractors are hired to work in cooperation with the military officers but
many are paid far more...

A brutal death in Baghdad's gridlock
Paul McGeough
In the last terrible minutes of his life, the world Chris Ahmelman and his
buddies thought they knew so well collapsed in confusion, chaos and - for
three of them - death. The Australian security contractor was pinned down
with seven others near Baghdad International Airport. They did not even
know where the insurgency fire was coming from - and they made too many
mistakes as skill and instinct deserted them...
