The Iraqi Road Map
Raed Jarrar
The ongoing post-war-Iraq plan is not working. When the US administration
stops lying to their people, they’ll start searching seriously for an “Exit
Plan”. The US administration and other governments that took or still
taking a part of the collapsing coalition should adopt a three-point Iraq
Roadmap to stop the on going crisis from their side and guarantee the
safety of their troops, and give the space for Iraqis to work on healing
Iraq from their side too. 1- Issue a Public Apolog! y and hold
responsibility for the destruction of Iraq...

The Secret Way to War
Mark Danner, The New York Review of Books
...As Americans watch their young men and women fighting in the third year
of a bloody counterinsurgency war in Iraq—a war that has now killed more
than 1,600 Americans and tens of thousands of Iraqis—they are left to
ponder "the unanswered question" of what would have happened if the United
Nations weapons inspectors had been allowed—as all the major powers except
the United Kingdom had urged they should be—to complete their work. What
would have ha! ppened if the UN weapons inspectors had been allowed to
prove, before the US went "into battle," what David Kay and his colleagues
finally proved afterward? Thanks to a formerly secret memorandum published
by the London Sunday Times on May 1, during the run-up to the British
elections, we now have a partial answer to that question...

Falluja's Schools Still In Ruins; Complaints about U.S. Forces Continue
Thair al-Asaad, Azzaman
Six months after the U.S. war on Falluja, many residents still live in
refugee camps and students attend classes in tents. Many school buildings,
like almost everything else in the city, are heaps of ruin. They are
without walls, doors or windows – the outcome of U.S. bombardment and
aggression. It is still hard to enter the city, as visitors must pass
through U.S. checkpoints that utilize high-tech equipment to try an! d
scrutinize anyone entering or leaving. I was standing in a long queue at
the al-Jisir Entrance. Many students were waiting to enter the city.
“Everyday we wait here for at least one hour. The city is under a curfew
which ends at 8:00 a.m. U.S. troops are not nice. They try to humiliate
us,” said Kahlil al-Talib, a high school student...

Who Cares?
Dahr Jamail
... My friend also reported that after he recently visited Haditha
(remember “Operation Open Market”) he found that a large number of
civilians had been detained. “They even detained a friend of mine and his
father because they found papers in their home about an upcoming
demonstration,” he told me. Recently, the US-backed Iraqi “government”
announced it had detained nearly 900 “suspected militants.” A “suspected
militant” in Iraq looks more and more like anyone in the wrong place at the
wr! ong time when Iraqi or US forces conduct an operation. Of course the
looting of homes during raids continues along with the detentions of
innocent Iraqis...

UK supplying over 90 per cent of arms transfers to Iraq
IRNA
Britain supplied over 90 per cent of major conventional weapons delivered
to Iraq in 2004 following the lifting of the UN arms embargo last June,
according to the latest figures from Stockholm International Peace Research
Institute (Sipri). In its 2005 yearbook, Sipri listed the UK transferring
an index of 72 of its general trend value expressed in millions of dollars
at constant 1990 prices out of a total 81 delivered to Iraq last year...

"If you are in control of the territory .. versus .. If you are scared to
death to leave your fort"
Imad Khadduri , Free Iraq
...The Americans have created their next Alamo. They have thousands of
troops trapped in Iraq that have no function other than to be scared to
death and to terrorize the population because they are so afraid of them.
They have been sent into Baghdad where they are totally surrounded and
cannot get out. I think the coming massacre will be remembered for all
time. Hollywood can make a film a! bout all the brave men and women who
died in the Green Zone in the search for freedom...

Ask the God Damn Question!
Jesse, Editor - TvNewsLIES.org
...After a single question about the Downing Street Memo (with no follow
up) was asked, (in between the questions about Africa - the American media
suddenly sudennly discovered Africa), Bush & Blair once again repeated
their rhetoric about how they went to war with Iraq only after Saddam
Hussein refused to comply. COMPLY WITH WHAT? Why, after 2 years, hasn’t a
single reporter asked the most obvious question of the enitire crime that
is the invasion of Ira! q…WHAT DID SADAM REFUSE? Are they referring to the
US imposed Catch 22 demand that he disarm Iraq of the WMD’s that IRAQ DID
NOT HAVE? WHAT THE HELL DID WE GO TO WAR FOR? Saddam permitted intrusive
inspections with NO TIME LIMIT! WHAT DID HE REFUSE?...

Shaggy
Joe Carr, Electronic Iraq
...He remembers the bombing of his neighborhood all too vividly. "One time,
we saw a huge cloud yellow smoke, which was some kind of uranium weapon.
When we arrived, there was hardly anything left of the houses. There were
14 people in the houses and there was nothing left, just rubble and what
looked like blended meat. I was a vegetarian for three months after that
because I couldn't handle the smell of cooked flesh." He said a US
radiation clean-up crew removed all the material ! from the site the next
day. Though illegal under international law, the US commonly uses depleted
uranium (DU) weapons because it's an incredibly strong and heavy metal. The
dust from DU munitions has led to enormous health problems in Iraqis and
also in coalition troops...

Agents provocateur?
John Kaminski
...The object of the 9/11 skeptics movement is not to gain personal fame
and fortune, nor to disparage those who are not as expert as others in
knowing all the trivial details of every aspect of the event (...) The
object, ultimately, is to identify the true perpetrators of the greatest
crime in American history, and perhaps on an even higher level, to prevent
the world from being destroyed by rich and cunning white men who seek to
profit from fomenting wars all over the world. W! e need to stop the
bickering, and press on in pursuit of the evidence, wherever it leads. Only
then can we truly say we have led and are leading honest lives...

WHEN TROOPS KILL CIVILIANS: Light punishment raises concern, sympathy
TIM WHITMIRE, ASSOCIATED PRESS
A soldier who admitted executing a wounded Iraqi teenager received three
years in prison. His codefendant got a 1-year term. A captain convicted of
charges in the fatal shooting of another wounded Iraqi was dismissed from
the armed forces, but received no prison time. In the 27 months since the
Iraq war began, at least 10 U.S. military personnel have been convicted of
charges stemming from the deaths of Iraqi civi! lians. But only one
sentence has exceeded three years, and a Marine lieutenant and an Army
sergeant were cleared of murder charges last month...

Don't pay money for the enemy's weapons. Iraqi activists plan to boycott US
goods
Joe Carr, Electronic Iraq
Today, I attended an Iraqi activist meeting discussing new forms of
resistance to the occupation. The meeting took place at Women's Will, a
women's rights and social justice organization, and represented were some
of the more radical leftist groups in Baghdad. The bulk of the conference
focused around a proposed boycott of US and Israeli goods that have flooded
Iraqi markets since the invasion...

countries have ties with the Jewish state," Barzani said in an interview
with the Saudi daily al-Hayat...

Bring It Down. Now.
David Michael Green, CommonDreams.org
...This political cancer has yielded death, destruction, environmental
wreckage, massive debt, wholesale violations of human rights, diminishment
of national security, dismantling of constitutional democracy at home and
widespread hatred for America abroad. And that's just the first term. It is
difficult to imagine that one could ruin a country so thoroughly in just
four years, but the Bush team has succeeded famously (with a good deal of
help from the pre! ss, the Democrats and the public). Finally, it appears
that we have in the Downing Street Memo a weapon, and with it the proper
context, to end our long national nightmare. Impeachment. Now...

Judge wants to question U.S. troops on Iraq deaths

A Spanish judge wants to question three U.S. soldiers as suspects in the
death of a Spanish cameraman who was killed when a U.S. tank fired on a
hotel housing foreign journalists during the 2003 assault on Baghdad. The
Pentagon has found no fault with the soldiers, but High Court Judge
Santiago Pedraz wants to question the three men who were in the tank, a
court official said on Tuesday...

Saddam's Lawyers Refute Claims of Adequate Legal Representation
Aljazeera.com
Lawyers for the Iraqi President Saddam Hussain say they are prevented from
adequately representing him and that statements to the contrary by the
Iraqi and United States governments are deceptive and irresponsible. All
the lawyers who the Iraqi Special Tribunal have designated as legal
representatives of Mr. Saddam Hussain, his family, and several
internationally prominent lawyers, including Mr. Ramsey Clark, former
United States Attor! ney General, have stated that no lawyer has yet had
adequate access to Mr. Saddam Hussain since his detention more than a year
and half ago and his due process right continue to be violated...

After the Downing Street Memo: The Case for Impeachment Builds

The fallout from the revelation of a secret meeting between British Prime
Minister Tony Blair and his senior national security team appears to be
growing. We take a look at the so-called "Downing Street Memo" which
reveals how the former director of the British intelligence agency, MI6,
told Prime Minister Tony Blair that the U.S. had already made plans to
attack Iraq as early as July 2002...

No date set for Saddam's trial, Iraq govt concedes
Luke Baker, Reuters
Iraq's government backed away on Tuesday from recent claims that Saddam
Hussein could be tried within weeks, saying it was up to the country's
independent Special Tribunal to decide when he goes to court. Senior
officials, including the president and the prime minister's spokesman, had
said in the past week that Saddam could be tried within two months and
indicated he could be the first member of the former regime to appear in
court...

The War to Deceive America Into War -- And the War to Cover Up the Deception
A BUZZFLASH EDITORIAL
Before America went to war with Afghanistan, another war was underway --
against its own people: the war to deceive America into attacking Iraq.
This is no longer a theory or conjecture; it is a documented fact. Those in
the Mainstream Media, including the New York Times and Washington Post, who
choose to ignore this reality, or couch it in qualifying terms (such as
"unproven assertions") are no longer trying to deb! unk a conspiracy,
because the deliberate deception that forced America into war with Iraq is
not a conspiracy theory...
