JUST WHAT EVERY IRAQI NEEDS: A BIBLE
Malcom Lagauche
Enough is enough for the Christian community in Iraq. The head of Iraq's
largest Christian community, Patriarch Emmanuel Delly, recently scathingly
attacked the evangelical Christians who have taken their crusade to Iraq
since the illegal U.S. invasion of March 2003. Delly told Al-Jazeera News
on May 19 that Iraq did not need Christian missionaries because its
churches dated back long before Protestantism. He objected to the aspect of
trying to convert Muslims ! and said, "You can't even talk about that
here." According to Delly, the evangelicals attract poor youths with
displays of money and then "take them out in cars to have fun. Then, they
take photos and send them here, to Germany, to the United States and say
'look how many Muslims have become Christian.'" Delly was a strong opponent
of the U.S. invasion of Iraq...

Oil For Food. Open Letter to the American Senator Norm Coleman
Gilles Munier, General secretary of the French Iraqi Friendship Organization
I have read the report of the Senate committee on inquiry which you chair.
It goes back on "information" provided by the Iraqi newspaper Al Mada in
January 2004 on 270 personalities who could have pocketed "oil bonds" from
Saddam Hussein. To questions put to me then, I answered that the French
Iraqi Friendship Organization had on occasions received financial as!
sistance by an oil company to cover the costs of some of its activities. I
therefore feel that I am in a position to state that the accusations made
against George Galloway and Charles Pasqua are mere forgeries...

Pentagon engineers : a free and honest advise!
Abu Assur
...So what to do? The US only superpower is being defeated and humiliated
by some bare footed Iraqi tramps.. But US, you said you invented and put
into war zones in Iraq, specially designed IEDs killer robots. Where are
they? Your defense magazine are very garrulous about these technological
marvels. They lack, say these magazines, only to talk (Air)ab. Was it a
failure or another bluff, another trickery? Have these killer robots gone
AWOL also? Are they re! belling against military orders. We are told the
robots are equipped with an infra red sight. They have radar eyes which can
see in the pitch dark of the night and can discern through the Iraqi desert
storm dust a friend from an enemy. It can distinguish, say the US military,
between a Coca Cola can and US soldier abandoned shoe in the streets of
Baghdad. Exactly the way the US spy satellites can recognize and see how
many sugar cubes President Jacques Chirac, puts in his morning coffee...

'An insult to those who gave their lives for their country'
Prime Minister, Tony Blair, has rejected the demand for a full public
inquiry into the Iraq war.
Military Families Against the War
Sixteen families of British servicemen killed in Iraq have called on the
Prime Minister to open a full investigation into the background and
legality to the war. The families consider that there are serious questions
for the government to answer. They believe that their husbands and sons
were sent to war on the ba! sis of lies and deception. Moreover in the
rejection of their legitimate request for an inquiry the Prime Minister has
added insult to injury...

Blair faces US probe over secret Iraq invasion plan
Tony Allen-Mills and Tom Pattinson
SENIOR American congressmen are considering sending a delegation to London
to investigate Britain's role in preparations for the war in Iraq.
Democratic opponents of President George W Bush have seized on a leaked
Downing Street memo, first published three weeks ago by The Sunday Times,
as evidence that American lawmakers were misled about Bush's intentions in
Iraq....

Iraqi Resistance Report for events of Saturday, 21 May 2005
Translated and/or compiled by Muhammad Abu Nasr, member, editorial board,
the Free Arab Voice. http://www.freearabvoice.org
...In a dispatch posted at 11:55am Saturday morning, Mecca time, Mafkarat
al-Islam reported that the Iraqi Resistance was still in total control of
the liberated city of al-Hasibah and all its key interchanges. Witnesses
reported that US forces with helicopters providing air cover withdrew from
al-Hasibah on the highway to al-Qa'im ! hauling dozens of American vehicles
with them. The Iraqi puppet army withdrew with them...

Black market organ trade is Baghdad's new growth industry
Saleh Al Jibouri in Baghdad and Colin Freeman
Ali Hameed quit his job as a taxi driver because he no longer felt safe on
Baghdad's streets. Increasingly desperate for money to help him get
married, he hit on a once-in-a-lifetime business opportunity - selling one
of his kidneys. Last week, in a shabby ward in the city's Al Karama
hospital, he lay bandaged on a bed, one kidney lighter and $1,400 (about
£765) richer after a three-hour operation...

Displaced Iraqis Simmering with Anger in Amman
Dahr Jamail's Iraq Dispatches
...His hope for his home country? "Iraqis must have a new government, this
time with legal elections," he explains while we stand in the shade of a
palm tree, "I think we need a revolution to get things back to where they
once were for us. Then, Insh'Allah [God willing] I will go back. Saddam was
so much better than these bastards [US occupation forces], even though I
hated him." His opinion is not unique, nor is it unfounded when we co!
nsider the facts...

A breath of fresh air sweeps into hell, but there's still no way out
John Chuckman, MMN
...Anyone can see, even reading the manipulated American press, that these
tactics are failing. The attacks of Iraqi resistance forces just keep
increasing. The rebuilding of the country, without which there is no hope
for long-term stability, isn't proceeding as it should. The country's
pathetic excuse for an elected government doesn't yet function as a
government. New revelations of American abuses steadily feed indignation !
and resentments around the world...

Permanent ruse for an indefinite war
Abid Ullah Jan, MMN
Are there some peace-loving people still waiting for the US withdrawal and
the end of wars and occupations? If there are, let it be known to everyone
that their desire will remain a dream for as long as the most corrupt and
tyrannical system of governance survives in the US and allied states. Now
that the lies about weapons of mass destruction have been officially
admitted, and the situation in Afghanistan is far worse than it ever was
under the Taliban, t! he single most important motivator that led the US
into these adventures is being publicly acknowledged...

1 in 4 Iraq/Afghan Vets Seek Medical Care
Veterans for Common Sense
During today's hearing on the serious problems facing returning war
veterans, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) reported more than 85,000
Iraq War and Afghanistan War veterans have already sought medical care from
VA. Out of the 360,000 discharged veterans from Operation Iraqi Freedom
(OIF) and Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF), nearly one in four had already
visited VA for physical injuries or mental health counseling by February
2005. Thi! s number far exceeds the 12,000 wounded reported by the

Daily Life in Baghdad, from Afar
Dahr Jamail
It's coming apart at the seams now in Iraq. We saw on the news today that
members of the Mehdi Army in the south, the militia of Shia cleric Muqtada
al-Sadr, exchanged gunfire with members of the ING (Iraqi National Guard)
who in the south are primarily, if not entirely composed of members of the
Badr Army, also a Shia group. So now we have Shia fighting Shia. Meanwhile
in Baghdad, things are just as bad. Abu Talat, my friend and interpreter,
was speaking with his fam! ily who live in the al-Adhamiya district of the
capital city...

In the belly of the beast
Scott Ritter, The Guardian
... There is at least one politician, however, that the citizens of Britain
can today be proud of, regardless of how one views his politics. This is a
man who, back in 2002, had the courage to stand up to Blair and George
Bush, calling Blair a liar and declaring that both were behaving like
"wolves" towards Iraq. For speaking the truth, he was castigated, thrown
out of the Labour party and smeared with false allegations of corruption -
at the same time as the ! US government hid its role in enriching Saddam
Hussein's government with illegal kickbacks. He has now charged back,
winning a parliamentary seat previously controlled by the very party that
evicted him...

Inside secret Saddam prison
Peter Beaumont, Paul Harris and Antony Barnett
...Inside the buildings of Camp Cropper are the windowless cells, two
metres square. The only entry is through bolted steel doors with a metal
ventilation flap placed a metre from the ground. For those who are held
inside for up to 23 hours a day it is their only view of the outside world.
Sometimes the flaps are sealed as punishment. There is a small shower block
at the end of each row. Separate from the cell blocks - once used by the
Rep! ublican Guard - are the prison's administration wing and hospital
infirmary. Set to one side are the metal cabins where the interrogations
take place...

U.S. troops killing journalists
www.globalresearch.
Echoing a claim that led to CNN executive Eason Jordan's resignation, the
president of the 35,000-member Newspaper Guild asserted U.S. troops
deliberately are killing journalists in Iraq. Linda Foley, speaking Friday
in St. Louis, said the American attacks are focused particularly on Arab
journalists, according to a tape aired by Sinclair Broadcasting's "The

Not so endearing enduring U.S. military bases in Iraq
Mark Drolette, Online Journal Contributing Writer
...So there it is: confirmation from none other than the Pentagon itself
that the U.S. intends to stay in Iraq for a mighty long time, no matter how
nicely (or not) we're asked to leave; no matter the myriad phony reasons
given for attacking that benighted land; no matter how many times Bush and
Cheney and Rumsfeld and Rice and the rest of the murderous fascists who
destroy and kill everything they touch cynica! lly swear that our
benevolent, peace-loving country's sole desire is to instill democracy
there while it is simultaneously and systematically being eviscerated here;
no matter the hell what, actually. Here is proof positive of PNAC's
pinheaded plan, yet it's too much for the whoreporate media to bother
asking about, let alone investigate...

Siege of al-Qaim followed similar pattern to siege of al-Falluja and just
as ineffective
Xymphora
We're starting to see a pattern in the new American way of war. The assault
on the town of Al Qa'im is remarkably similar to the attack on Falluja. The
characteristics: 1. Pick an area with a significant local insurgency that
can be destroyed for the purposes of teaching other areas a lesson. 2. Seal
off the town, so the civilians can't leave. 3. Drop bombs on the captive
civilian population (and, at least in the cas! e of Falluja,incendiaries)...

The Resistance in Context
An Anatomy of the Resistance to the American Occupation in Iraq
LAITH AL-SAUD, CounterPunch
Much of the American left has been less than consistent with its approach
to the occupation of Iraq. Before the invasion of March 2003, the streets
of metropolitan America hosted a pageant of political dissent and
indignation directed at the current administration. Yet in the
post-invasion world the American left has been remarkably ambiguous and
ambivalent...

A Nation Willingly Deceived
The Grand Illusion
DOUG GIEBEL, CounterPunch
...The American Street has effectively tuned out the din of torture,
wounding, death and destruction flowing daily from Iraq. Assassinations of
thirty, fifty, four-hundred Iraqis barely cause a ripple in the nation's
collective conscience. Unless thirty, fifty, four-hundred American soldiers
are obliterated at a time, the public will sleep-walk thorough each day,
unperturbed by a national media that ignored or buried the damning Br!
itish memo in an effort to protect Americans from having to think about
anything but "nuclear options," privatization and far-more crucial and
attention-getting headlines such as "Small Plane Scare Evacuates White
House." Even mass American casualties may not be enough to jar this
Wal-Mart Generation from its appointed buying spree...

Report implicates top brass in Bagram scandal
Julian Borger, The Guardian
A leaked report on a military investigation into two killings of detainees
at a US prison in Afghanistan has produced new evidence of connivance of
senior officers in systematic prisoner abuse. The investigation shows the
military intelligence officers in charge of the detention centre at Bagram
airport were redeployed to Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq in 2003, while still
under investigation for the deaths of two detainees months earlier. Desp!
ite military prosecutors' recommendations, the officers involved have yet
to be charged...

The Newsweek incident
Massive protests follow brief moment of truth
Deirdre Griswold, Workers World
...The abuse and the humiliation are real. No amount of media manipulation
and intimidation can change that. Newsweek has not tarnished some
super-clean U.S. "image." It has lifted the lid just a little — and then
closed it again in great fear — on the cesspool of U.S. imperialism's
criminal conduct in what used to be referred to as the Third World, which
has been going on for a long time but can no lon! ger be concealed by
platitudes about peace and democracy...
