Iraqi National foundation Congress
Second session - Baghdad 7 May 2005 Concluding statement
BRussells Tribunal
The Iraqi National Foundation Congress convened its second on Saturday 7
May 2005 in the Iraqi Law Association hall in Baghdad. The gathering of
anti-occupation political parties, movements and personalities discussed
the current changing political scene and the conduct of the congress over
its first year. They addressed the events that preceded, accompanied and
followed the election! s, and the consequences of the continuing raids and
attacks on Iraqi towns. They noted the grave tendency to implant division
and strife amongst the Iraqi people through the adoption of sectarian and
ethnic quotas in formation of government bodies, and the mounting
insecurity and chaos in all areas in the country...

U.S. occupation spreads Iraq turmoil
John Catalinotto, Workers World
To 90 percent of Iraqis, the cause of widespread killings, the failure of
the new puppet government, the lack of gas and electricity and the general
chaos is clear: it's the U.S. occupation. But on a whirlwind tour of the
northern Kurdish area and the fortified "Green Zone" of Baghdad on May 15,
U.S. Secre tary of State Condoleezza Rice tried to find a scape goat:
Syria. According to Rice, Syria has failed to stop border crossings of U.S.

MADE OF STERNER STUFF
Malcom Lagauche
...I spoke to five Arabs today (three pro-Saddam; one anti-Saddam; and one
neutral). They all agreed that the Arab world will be incensed at the U.S.
over the photos and will not think less of Saddam Hussein. The anti-Saddam
person even said that it will only enhance Saddam's popularity. Then, I
spoke to one of the leading experts on the Middle East, Husayn al-Kurdi,
president of News International. He not only agreed that Saddam's stature
will be elevated, he said stunts lik! e this and others the U.S. has pulled
have actually turned people who did not support Saddam Hussein into
Saddam-admirers...

They Saved Our Lives
Ahmed Al-Habbabi
There is an aspect to the infamous kickbacks paid to Saddam Hussein's
regime in return for sales of inexpensive oil that so few seem to click to
at all (...) How can the people continue to live under those unprecedented
sanctions and strictest embargo for 13 years if the government cannot get
some income to import and supply some of the basic requirements for the
said services and for its own machinery to keep ticking over at a minimum?
(...) Who had the welfare of the Iraqis! in mind? Those who devised the
sanctions and enforced them with the utmost cruelty? They are the
criminals, not those who paid, or even those who got paid. All those
involved in "kickbacks" for whatever personal reasons, shady or altruistic,
actually averted genocide and saved a people from impending extinction.
Kickbacks indeed. They saved our lives...

Douglas Westerman, www.rense.com
Dear U.S. Soldier:
Did you know that:
* You've helped deposit over 1 million lbs. Of Depleted Uranium (DU) dust
in Iraq?
* You're told to stay away from DU as it could cause cancer?
* Numerous families in Iraq have multiple cancer victims?
* Many of these individuals have multiple cancers, a very rare occurrence
in Iraq prior to the use of DU weapons? ...

Bush unveils plans for US colonial office

consolidation of US control in countries targeted by Washington for
military aggression. That was President George W. Bush's essential message

War Crimes: the Iraq Living Conditions Survey
Kurt Nimmo, Another Day in the Empire
Deluded right-wingers refuse to believe the Lancet survey indicating more
than 100,000 Iraqis died from violence in 2003, most of that violence
dished out by yahoo American soldiers with trigger fingers who apparently
believe they are doing the Iraqis a big favor by destroying their country
and killing them. From my perspective here in a medium-sized town in New
Mexico, it would appear a whole lot of Americans are also yahoos beca! use
I see dozens of "Support Our Troops" magnetic ribbons affixed to cars and
trucks every time I venture out into traffic. It doesn't take an Einstein
to conclude that "supporting our troops" translates into supporting mass
murder and crimes against humanity...

Insurgency Increases; US Military Recruits Fall
One-in-Four Iraqis Directly Affected by the War
KEVIN B. ZEESE, CounterPunch
The U.S. Army has missed its recruiting goals for the last three months. On
Friday, May 20 they stopped recruiting to retrain recruiters who were
misleading and threatening potential recruits. At the same time the
resistance in Iraq is growing. Is the U.S. military more successful in
recruiting for the resistance than it is for the U.S. Army? The level of
insurgent activity in I! raq today is four or five times higher than it was
in early summer 2003 when there were 10-13 attacks per day. Currently,
there are approximately 50 per day. A report released by the Project for
Defense Alternatives explains why the resistance to U.S. occupation is
expanding - the root cause is the U.S. occupation itself...

WHAT WILL IT TAKE?
How Many More Lies Will the Media Tell
Editor, TvNewsLIES.org - May, 2005
During this, my third year as editor of TvNewsLIES.org, I am stunned by the
lack of outrage towards our news media by the people of this country. How
surreal do things have to get before we decide to stop the madness? What
level of hypocrisy do our media have to reach before we explode? Are we
waiting until there is no option other than taking to the streets to
restore control of the airways t! o the citizens of this country? What is
taking place today within our news media is beyond anything a democratic
society can withstand. If our democracy is to survive we must no longer
permit the assault of lies to continue...

Photos of Saddam will inflame anti-U.S. sentiment, analysts say
G. ROBERT HILLMAN, The Dallas Morning News
Once again, pictures are speaking louder than words in the Arab world. The
startling image of an imprisoned Saddam Hussein in only his white briefs is
certain to roil the already raw emotions in Iraq and throughout the Middle
East, scholars and analysts warned on Friday. "Culturally, this is highly
repulsive and highly offensive to Arabs and Muslims," said Fawaz Gerges,
professor of Middle East studies and i! nternational affairs at New York's
Sarah Lawrence College...

The unknown unknowns of the Abu Ghraib scandal
Seymour Hersh, The Guardian
It's been over a year since I published a series of articles in the New
Yorker outlining the abuses at Abu Ghraib. There have been at least 10
official military investigations since then - none of which has challenged
the official Bush administration line that there was no high-level policy
condoning or overlooking such abuse. The buck always stops with the handful
of enlisted army reservists from the 372nd Military Police Company whose
im! ages fill the iconic Abu Ghraib photos with their inappropriate smiles
and sadistic posing of the prisoners...

In US Report, Brutal Details of 2 Afghan Inmates' Deaths
Tim Golden, The New York Times
Even as the young Afghan man was dying before them, his American jailers
continued to torment him. The prisoner, a slight, 22-year-old taxi driver
known only as Dilawar, was hauled from his cell at the detention center in
Bagram, Afghanistan, at around 2 a.m. to answer questions about a rocket
attack on an American base. When he arrived in the interrogation room, an
interpreter who was present said, his legs were bouncing unc! ontrollably
in the plastic chair and his hands were numb. He had been chained by the
wrists to the top of his cell for much of the previous four days...

British MP: Iraq war was for oil
Adam Porter, Aljazeera.net
Labour MP and former UK environment minister Michael Meacher slammed Prime
Minister Tony Blair and US President George Bush for starting a war he said
was to secure oil interests. "The reason they [US and UK] attacked Iraq is
nothing to do with weapons of mass destruction, it was nothing to do with
democracy in Iraq, it was nothing to do with the human rights abuses of
Saddam Hussein," he said on Friday at the sidelines of the Fourth
International Worksh! op on Oil & Gas Depletion in Lisbon, Portugal...

Saddam to sue over prison photos

Saddam Hussein plans to take legal action after a British newspaper

from Jordan. The Sun newspaper said it would fight any legal action and
said it planned to publish more photos on Saturday...
