The emperor is perfectly naked
Abu Assur
Pentagon whores, you can't from now on keep on lying about your casualties
in Iraq and continue to hide to your people the real losses, the Iraqi
resistance is inflicting to the US beastly invader army. The world over
knows that you are crippled in the land of the Two rivers. The Iraqi
resistance hunt down your army rabble, day and night in Iraq. Your poor
soldiers are morally devastated. They don't want to be killed and to fight
for idol Zion wars...

War isn't 'winding down' - Resistance attacks rise in Iraq
Leslie Feinberg & Les Blough
...We predict that Bush and Blair have only one "exit strategy" available
to them: that would be leaving Iraq much in defeat. The U.S. is attemting
to put a good face on their defeat with a puppet government, doomed to
failure, but in the final analysis, we predict they will leave Iraq in a
manner similar to their flight from Saigon on April 30, 1970...

The Grand Ole Opry of Murder
Kurt Nimmo
In the wake of Bush's invasion of Iraq and all the corporate media driven
drivel supporting it, I have yet to encounter a coherent explanation of
what it means to "support our troops." I am told that I can be against the
"war" (invasion and occupation) and still "support our troops." How one can
"support" the soldiers who are exacting Bush's bloody aggression against
the people of Iraq and claim to be against the "war" is not explained. It
is impossible to separate the two.! If you "support the troops," you
support killing 100,000 Iraqis, you support eventually killing innumerable
Iraqis with depleted uranium, you support malnutrition, disease, and
misery...

Ramadi, Madain, and the Infamous "Baath-Qaeda" Camp
Raed Jarrar
A boy lies dead in a street in Ramadi, Iraq on Thursday, April 21, 2005.
His body was found in a street near three smoldering cars after gunfire
erupted in downtown Ramadi 115 kilometers (70 miles) west of Baghdad. The
U.S. military had no immediate information on the incident. No "immediate"
information! why would they care aslan? it's just a little boy in the
middle of nowhere. A little terrorist project in Ramadi. But seriously, why
would a! nyone care who killed the little boy. He's dead, with other tens
of thousands, because of the ongoing illegal war. Whether the bullet was
shot by a US soldier, or by someone fighting the foreign occupation of his
country, both of them didn't mean to kill the boy, but they killed him...

AND HE'S THE BAD GUY
Malcom Lagauche
... Fidel Castro is 78 years old. Most people of his age have long before
retired, yet he is still giving the world the same message that every
citizen should be able to receive health care and every citizen should have
the availability of literacy programs. In the past 11 days, he has given
eight speeches about these subjects. He runs afoul of U.S. interests much
in the same way that Saddam Hussein did. First of all, he uses the revenues
derived from his country's raw materia! ls to enhance the living standards
of its people. Second, like Saddam, he has failed to say, "I give up" to
the masters in Washington. But, he's the "bad guy." Illogic prevails...

Remembering Marla Ruzicka
Raed Jarrar, Raed in the Middle
Amid the tributes to Ruzicka that were featured prominently in the U.S.
media, no mention was made of the survey findings: 1,995 dead and 4,959
injured in the first 50 days of the invasion. I wrote the following piece
in tribute to Marla after my friends in GNN asked me to submit something
about my work with her in Iraq. I worked with Marla for more than six
months, we met in Baghdad immediately after the end of the war. She had
ideas about how to start do! cumenting cases of civilians killed in the
war, and I was interested in starting a survey about that too, so we
started working together...

Before You Mindlessly
Tie Another Yellow Ribbon Round That Old Oak Tree
Judy Andreas
On Friday, April 15, 2005, I stood in front of our local Court House
protesting the War in Iraq. It was tax day and we were trying to make a
point about how our tax dollars were being used. Many cars passed by and
gave us an approving honk. Other drivers gave us a disapproving 3rd finger.
Some of the cars had "support our troops" proudly displayed on their rears.
Support our troops? Does anyone question those ! words when they mindlessly
slap the bright yellow sticker on their vehicle? What do those words mean?
Is the "rah rah" supporter aware of why we are in Iraq? Has anyone told
these cheerleaders that the Iraqis did not fly any planes into the World
Trade Center? Has anyone told the "yellow ribbon crowd" that there were no
Weapons of Mass Destruction in Iraq? Can someone tell me what "support our
troops means?"...

UN investigator who exposed US army abuse forced out of his job
Nick Meo, Independent
The UN's top human rights investigator in Afghanistan has been forced out
under American pressure just days after he presented a report criticising
the US military for detaining suspects without trial and holding them in
secret prisons (...) Prisoners captured in Afghanistan and elsewhere in the
region are held at US bases, often before being shipped to Guantanamo Bay.
Human Rights Watch called on Saturday for a US special prose! cutor to
investigate the Defence Secretary, Donald Rumsfeld, and Charles Tenet, the
former-CIA director, for torture and abuse of detainees in jails around the
world, including Abu Ghraib in Iraq...

Islamist militias patrolling Basra
Delphine Minoui, Iraqwar.ru
Sheikh Assad al-Basri says there's no need to worry that he and his
Islamist militiamen might recreate a repressive Iranian-style theocracy in
Iraq. That's because the Islamic Republic of Iran is far too liberal,
according to Basri, the leading local representative of rebel cleric
Muqtada al-Sadr. "Only 5 percent of Iranians abide by real Islamic laws,"
said Basri, who boasts that he and his cohorts already have blown up most
of Basra's liquor stores,! punished "decadent picnickers" and imposed
Islamic dress codes on women. "The rest of Iranians are corrupt. Look,
there are drugs and girls who don't wear hijab covering well in Iran."
(...) On the streets of this once-liberal port city — which years ago
featured a row of casinos and bars along its waterfront — Islamist militias
already have begun imposing a harsh version of Islamic law that has shocked
many residents...

Balancing the Iraq Equation
Susan Wood
A humanitarian aid worker's death in Iraq last week is spurring calls for a
public accounting of civilian casualties by the United States government
and more attention to the issue by the U.S. media. Marla Ruzicka, 28, who
fought to obtain recognition and compensation for Iraqis injured in U.S.
military attacks, did not live to see all her goals accomplished. But a
week before a car bomb took her life and that of her Iraqi co-workers,
Ruzicka wrote a toughly worded essay. In! it, she contradicted senior
Pentagon officials, stating that military commanders do keep track of Iraqi
civilians killed by U.S. forces and that the number is important...

A Global Pact Against Depleted Uranium
From Francis Boyle, www.rense.com
During September of 2004 I launched an international campaign to conclude a
global pact against depleted uranium (DU) munitions by having every state
in the world officially and publicly take the position that the Geneva
Protocol of 1925 already includes within itself a flat-out prohibition on
the use of DU in wartime, which they have no yet done. So far the United
States is the only government in the world that uses DU munitions during

Human rights group calls for criminal investigations of Rumsfeld and Tenet
AP
A human rights watchdog group wants a criminal investigation of senior U.S.
intelligence and military officials who it says may have condoned or
ignored the abuse of prisoners at Abu Ghraib in Iraq, Guantanamo Bay and
other locations. The report, being issued Sunday by Human Rights Watch,
criticizes Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and former CIA Director George
Tenet for allegedly trying to pass blame for the abuse to military subordi!

Backing Democrats Has Pulled the Anti-War Movement to the Right
Why "Inside-Out" is a Dead End
ELIZABETH SCHULTE, CounterPunch
...If there was ever a time for political clarity in the antiwar movement,
it is now--for clarity won't be achieved if we wait until the next
election. The problem isn't that the Democrats have gone off course. War
and occupation in Iraq are part of their agenda, too. And unlike
Republicans, part of their job is to co-opt, soften or squelch the message
of the activists and gra! ssroots movement. We have to build an antiwar
movement that not only recognizes the Democratic Party's shortcomings, but
understands that it is part of the problem...

How Arabic text of WMD dossier was massaged by Downing St
Robert Fisk, The Independent
When Tony Blair published his notorious 2002 "dossier" which falsely
claimed that Iraq possessed weapons of mass destruction, Downing Street
also produced an Arabic version - which contained significant deletions and
changes in text that substantially altered its meaning. Translation carried
out for The Independent on Sunday reveals for the first time that several
references to UN sanctions were cut from the Arabic text. On one! page, the
words "biological agents" were changed to read "nuclear agents"...

Blair blow as secret war doubts revealed
Gaby Hinsliff, political editor, The Observer
The Iraq war was thrust dramatically into the election spotlight last night
after long-sought government legal advice, cautioning that the invasion
could be illegal, was leaked. The document appears to confirm for the first
time that the Attorney General, Lord Goldsmith, had serious reservations
about the legality of the conflict, only to change his mind as British and
US troops massed on the border of Iraq ready to invade...

In war's name, public loses information
Charlie Savage, Globe Staff
Federal agencies under the Bush administration are sweeping vast amounts of
public information behind a curtain of secrecy in the name of fighting
terrorism, using 50 to 60 loosely defined security designations that can be
imposed by officials as low-ranking as government clerks. No one is
tracking the amount of unclassified information that is no longer
accessible...

21 killed in blasts in Baghdad, Tikrit
The Associated Press
An emboldened Iraqi insurgency staged carefully coordinated dual bombings
in Saddam Hussein's hometown and a Shiite neighborhood of the capital
Sunday, killing at least 21 people, including an American soldier.
Lawmakers loyal to the new prime minister said he was ready to announce a
Cabinet that would include his interim predecessor, Ayad Allawi. Another
American soldier was killed in a separate attack...

Iraqi forces desert posts as insurgent attacks are stepped up
Oliver Poole
Iraqi army and police units are deserting their posts after the recent
escalation in insurgent attacks, according to reports from around the
country yesterday. The end of a relative period of calm after the election
has posed the first real test for the embryonic security forces since
coalition troops started cutting back on their military operations in
February. On average 20 Iraqis and two coalition soldiers have died every

Iraqi Resistance Report for events of Saturday, 23 April 2005
Translated and/or compiled by Muhammad Abu Nasr, member, editorial board,
the Free Arab Voice. http://www.freearabvoice.org
...The Board of Muslim 'Ulama' Scholars, the highest Sunni religious
authority in Iraq, issued a denunciation of the car bombing that struck a
Shi'i Husayniyah mosque in Baghdad on Friday. The statement, a copy of
which was received by Mafkarat al-Islam, said, "those seeking to fulfill
the wishes of the invaders and accomplish the! ir aims are pursuing various
paths to strike our Iraqi people, by driving one part of them against the
other, targeting the Sunni and Shi'i alike. What happened yesterday when
the as-Sabih Husayniyah was attacked in the at-Ta'iriyah area was one more
example of that effort"...

It's terror when we say so
Pepe Escobar
...What is considered "terrorism" by the Bush administration is perceived
as something completely different around the world. "Terrorism" is defined
differently in the Middle East. A helpful guide is a February study on
Middle Eastern public opinion - conducted in Jordan, Egypt, Lebanon, Syria
and Palestine - and released by the Center for Strategic Studies at the
University of Jordan. For more than 85% of the population in four of these
five countries polled (64% in Lebano! n), the US war on Iraq was an act of
terrorism. Ninety percent in all countries polled say that Israel's killing
of Palestinian civilians is terrorism. Hamas and Hezbollah are not regarded
as terrorist groups: they are regarded as legitimate resistance
organizations...

Terrified US soldiers are still killing civilians with impunity, while the
dead go uncounted
Patrick Cockburn, Indipendent
An American patrol roared past us with the soldiers gesturing furiously
with their guns for traffic to keep back on an overpass in central Baghdad.
A black car with three young men in it did not stop in time and a soldier
fired several shots from his machine gun into its engine. The driver and
his friends were not hit, but many Iraqis do not survive casual encounters
with US soldiers. It is v! ery easy to be accidentally killed in Iraq. US
soldiers treat everybody as a potential suicide bomber. If they are right
they have saved their lives and if they are wrong they face no penalty...
