AN APPEAL TO PRESIDENT CHAVEZ
Malcom Lagauche
...The Secretary-General of the United Nations, Kofi Anan, has publicly
declared the March 2003 invasion of Iraq "illegal." Yet, members of the
Iraqi government have been assassinated by U.S. forces, while others were
kidnapped and now are in jail cells and have no representation. Those hired
to represent them do not even know in which nation they are incarcerated.
If this tragedy is allowed to unfold without opposition, the results will
be much more devastating than ! the invasion of Iraq itself. The world will
be ruled according to the wishes of the strong. Any country will have a
precedent to attack any nation it desires and do the same to the government
of the country being attacked. The world will descend to a point that will
make the Dark Ages appear enlightened. I appeal to you to publicly bring up
the plight of the kidnapped Iraqi government...

UN POMERIGGIO CON MOHAMMED HASSAN
Fulvio Grimaldi, Mondocane Fuorilinea
logistico, e i giovani ufficiali! dell'esercito iracheno, ambedue forze
che, come risulta dall'evidenza dei fatti, ma anche dalla documentazione
fornita addirittura da ispettori dell'ONU, erano state preparate alla
guerra di lunga durata contro l'occupante anni prima dell'invasione...

More, surely, are to follow ... & .... The abject bankruptcy of a colonial
occupation
Imad Khadduri
...Even before the invasion and occupation of Iraq, I had publicly stated
my unequivocal conviction that "rivers of blood" will flow in Iraq, to the
consternation of several American radio stations that curtailed the
interview claiming I was threatening the sensitivities of the American
listeners.
Back in August of 2002 Vice President Dick Cheney cited the Middle East
expert Professor Fouad Ajami (who is not Iraqi) predicting that after
"liberation" the streets in Basra and Baghdad are sure to erupt in joy in
the same way the throngs in Kabul greeted the Americans (...) Unlike Ajami
and Cheney, and for that matter their "Iraqi" chorus of Chalabi, Allawi,
and their ilk, I am more attuned with the dignity, and the indignities, of
my people...

In growing numbers
Youths say no to Pentagon wars
John Catalinotto
Young people's passive resistance to the Iraq occupation is driving Army
recruiters into early retirement, depression and thoughts of suicide. In
addition, active resistance is growing at all levels, from pickets at
recruitment centers to troops refusing orders to Iraq. Individual military
resisters are becoming spokespersons and role models for other troops. The
Pentagon faces a serious dilemma: either retreat from Washington's globa! l
offensive or consider bringing back military conscription—the hated draft...

The Pope's Resistance to the "Unjust War" on Iraq
Confidential Ad Personam Memorandum
The Vatican's Divisions At the Beginning of World War IV
by Pasquale Maria Aliberti, www.globalresearch.ca
...Following his death, we now see many world leaders -- starting with
George W. Bush -- who maliciously attempted to thwart Pope John Paul's
antiwar stance, pouring gallons of crocodile tears over the TV cameras.
However, this media propaganda cannot overshadow the fact that John Paul
II's last big battle was aga! inst the Bush administration's "preemptive
war" doctrine. The Pontiff and his closest collaborators resisted an
unprecedented assault by the men of the would be new roman emperor on the
Potomac and told directly Bush and his minions that their war was an
"unjust war"...

Don't let the warmonger off the hook
Scott Ritter, Independent
...The American people have already shown themselves to be culpable in
legitimising this tragedy by re-electing George Bush, the chief architect
of this disaster, as president of the United States. In the weeks to come,
the citizens of Great Britain will have a chance to carve their names in
the annals of history, either slavishly repeating the same mistake of their
American cousins by re-electing a man who is responsible for a massive
violation of in! ternational law, or establishing the viability of British
democracy as a lasting bastion of the rule of law by voting out Tony Blair.
This will send a clear and lasting signal to those on the Presidential
Commission and the Butler Commission that illegal wars of aggression are
the responsibility of the politicians who order them, not the intelligence
officials who justify them...

The Month Of April Will Never Be Forgotten
Ibrahim Ebeid, Al-Moharer
...The Month of April will always remind us of the terror and massacres
committed against the Arab people by the US Imperialists and their allies
the Zionists. April 7 will always remind us of the birth of the Ideology
that renewed itself and gave birth to the National Resistance in Iraq and
Palestine. The Iraqis and Palestinians are fighting for life; they are
defending their homeland while the US soldiers are dying for Zionism and
Corporate ! America...

As dirty war drags on
Figleaf on occupation of Iraq is in 'chaos'
Deirdre Griswold, Socialist Worker
...Look at the news from Iraq. The farce of building an "Iraqi government"
under conditions of atrocious U.S. military occupation stumbles on, part
tragedy, part comedy. Of course, it is not an Iraqi government. It is a
colonial imposition ushered in through a weird election process in which
most of the candidates were anonymous. Even then, those "elected" know the
Iraqi people expect them to somehow g! et the U.S. troops out, but
Washington sees them as a figleaf for its continued occupation. A big
contradiction...

DU Death Toll Tops 11,000
Nationwide Media Blackout Keeps U.S. Public Ignorant About This Important Story
James P. Tucker Jr., American Free Press
The death toll from the highly toxic weapons component known as depleted
uranium (DU) has reached 11,000 soldiers and the growing scandal may be the
reason behind Anthony Principi's departure as secretary of the Veterans
Affairs Department. This view was expressed by Arthur Bernklau, executive
director of Veterans for Constitutional Law in New York, ! writing in
Preventive Psychiatry E-Newsletter...

Tenet's Pack of Lies
Gordon Prather, Antiwar.com
...Of course, as we now know, the first order of business of the
Bush-Cheney administration once it came to power was to invade and occupy
Iraq, and every weenie in the White House, the Pentagon, and the State
Department, as well as the neo-crazies in and out government and their
media sycophants, knew it. But they needed an excuse and a rationale. The
terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001 gave them the excuse. A few days later,
Deputy Secretary of Defense Wolfowitz! departed from his prepared speech -
carried on C-Span - to reveal that the Pentagon had already developed a
multi-billion dollar plan of attack, but that, "We would never have thought
of that [terrorist attack] excuse." How about a rationale? Well, Wolfowitz
spilled the beans, there, too. "The truth is that for reasons that have a
lot to do with the U.S. government bureaucracy, we settled on the one issue
that everyone could agree on which was weapons of mass destruction as the
core reason." So, "Slam-Dunk" Tenet was directed to prepare "Iraq's
Continuing Programs for Weapons of Mass Destruction"...

Panel: U.S. Ignored Work of U.N. Arms Inspectors
Dafna Linzer, Washington Post Staff Writer
...The work of the inspectors -- who had extraordinary access during their
three months in Iraq between November 2002 and March 2003 -- was routinely
dismissed by the Bush administration and the intelligence community in the
run-up to the war, according to the commission led by former senator
Charles S. Robb (D-Va.) and retired appellate court judge Laurence H.
Silberman...

Coups at the ballot
Caise D. Hassan
...The US is building a dozen permanent bases in Iraq; time will tell how
the new Iraqi government will deal with the American presence, though the
government itself is dependent on American troops for protection from the
insurgency. The elected Kurdish leadership, with a long history of CIA
support, has captured many seats in the Iraqi parliament. The Kurds are the
most likely to accommodate the US bases in Iraq. Though some of the other
elected political parties want the Amer! icans to leave Iraq, they need
American protection. Iraq's insurgency pronounced its clear opposition to
those participating in the election...

US relied on 'drunken liar' to justify war
Edward Helmore, The Observer
An alcoholic cousin of an aide to Ahmed Chalabi has emerged as the key
source in the US rationale for going to war in Iraq. According to a US
presidential commission looking into pre-war intelligence failures, the
basis for pivotal intelligence on Iraq's alleged biological weapons
programmes and fleet of mobile labs was a spy described as 'crazy' by his
intelligence handlers and a 'congenital liar' by his friends...

Tomgram: Nick Turse, If You Build It, They Will Kill
Tom Engelhardt & Nick Turse
.... The insurgency in Iraq has demonstrated that a relatively small force
of lightly armed insurgents in an area roughly the size of California can
bog down, stretch to the limit, and effectively counterbalance for two
years the might of the U.S. military, despite its trillions of dollars
worth of satellites, armor, artillery, air power, futuristic weapons, and
old-fashioned bullets. Two years on, as faithful readers of Juan Cole'! s
indispensable Informed Comment blog can attest, Iraq's anti-occupation
movement shows few signs of slowing. Right now, it's keeping up a steady
pace of 50 to 60 attacks a day, despite frequent cheery pronouncements on
our evening news and in the press about "tipping points"...

U.S. Forces May Have Beaten Iraqi General
ROBERT WELLER, Associated Press Writer
Previously secret court testimony indicates an Iraqi general imprisoned by
U.S. forces was badly bruised and may have been severely beaten two days
before he died of suffocation during interrogation. References to the
alleged beating appear in a transcript, released under court order, from a
military preliminary hearing for three soldiers charged with murder and
dereliction of duty in the death of Maj. Gen. Abed Mowhoush on Nov. 26,!
2003. A fourth soldier faces the same charges but waived a hearing...

Corporate Assassin
David Podvin
George W. Bush is a murderer, and a prolific one at that. He has deployed
surrogates to kill more than one hundred thousand Iraqi civilians in a
ruthless slaughter that is ongoing. The fact that he murders via remote
control from the Oval Office does not confer legitimacy to his crimes. If
anything, it makes them all the more despicable. Bush is slaying people in
the name of democracy, yet his commitment to democracy has already been
debunked in Haiti and Venezuela, not to mention! Florida and Ohio...

Iraq assembly elects its first speaker
Aljazeera.net
Iraqi lawmakers have ended days of bickering by electing a Sunni Arab as
their parliament speaker, clearing a hurdle that has held up the formation
of a new government (...) Some criticized Sunday's choice of Industry
Minister Hajim al-Hassani, one of only 17 Sunni Arabs in parliament, saying
the new speaker didn't represent the Sunni community. Usama Abdulfatah, a
30-year-old architect, said al-Hassani's support last year of the US
assault on the militant str! onghold of Falluja showed he "does not have
beliefs and will never do anything against his benefit." Even though his
Iraqi Islamic Party pulled out of the government over the issue, al-Hassani
refused to leave his job. "How could we just trust such a traitor?"
Abdulfatah asked...

...Collaborator Badr Brigade gunmen murdered an entire Sunni family in
Baghdad's al-Baladiyat area of the Second ar-Rusafah district at about 7am
Saturday morning. More than seven gunmen, their faces covered, attacked the
house and killed all the nine members of the family, including four
children and an elderly woman. The corr! espondent of Mafkarat al-Islam
reported witnesses as saying that all the dead, including the children,
were apparently sleeping at the time of the attack, since they were found
dead in their beds...
