Negroponte, a Neo-Con? Shocking!!
Jude Wanniski
You may remember, Senator, I posted a memo on the margin to you on April
27, 2004, when I learned that John Negroponte, the US Ambassador to the
U.N., was nominated to be the U.S. Ambassador to Iraq. I told you then
that, from what I could see, he was a loyal agent of the megalomaniac
neo-con Cabal to run the world, and we would regret putting him in charge
of promoting "democracy" in Iraq. He was actually "placed" there not by
President Bush, but by his real boss, R ichard Perle, to promote a puppet
government that would do the bidding of Perle and his Cabal (Cheney,
Wolfie, Rummy, etc.) As I tried to explain to you back then, Senator,
Negroponte came up through the bureaucratic ranks by doing exactly as he
was told by the neo-cons, and now President Bush has been snookered yet
again into doing the bidding of the Cabal. He has appointed Negroponte to
be the Biggest Cheese of all in the National Intelligence Community, the
CZAR of national intelligence!!!...

Terrorism created by irrationality
Ali Al-Najafi, Al-Moharer
...The irrational policies of Washington under the Bush Administration are
responsible for the chaotic World we are witnessing and especially in the
Arab land. New gangs of terror are being created, financed and supported by
the Pentagon under the pretence to fight against "Islamic terrorism". The
US Corporations working together with the Pentagon are robbing Iraq from
its wealth, they are recruiting mercenaries from around the World and they
are hiring soldiers of fortune in Iraq...

Among the believers
At the Conservative Political Action Conference, where rabid
Bush-worshippers learn that liberals hate America and that we really did
find WMD in Iraq.
Michelle Goldberg, Salon.com
It's a good thing I went to the Conservative Political Action Conference
this year. Otherwise I never would have known that, despite the findings of
the authoritative David Kay report and every reputable media outlet on
earth, the United States actually discovered weapons of mass destruction in
Ir aq, vindicating all of George W. Bush's pre-war predictions. The
revelation came not from some crank at Free Republic or hustler from Talon
News, but from a congressman surrounded by men from the highest echelons of
American government. No wonder the attendees all seemed to believe him...

Baath Party Statement
Victory is Coming …Hail to Victory…. Hail to the Leader
Al-Moharer
...These days the Baathists live an era of heroism, they demonstrate the
solidity of the basis of militancy, science and Jihad, despite the
occupation and despite the plotters plotting while the leader remains in
the hearts and in the conscience of the People, of the Army and of the
Party. This is the state of the resisting Iraq! This is how the fields of
Jihad sparkle with thousands lights, and this is how the I raqi
intelligence creates on the grounds of voluntary and technical initiatives
a defensive military base built by the Baath and established by the Leader
Saddam Hussein...

Army knew of Abu Ghraib months before PM was told
Severin Carrell, The Independent
A senior British officer knew about serious abuse allegations at Abu Ghraib
prison five months before ministers learnt about the scandal, The
Independent on Sunday can reveal. The officer - one of the most senior
British military lawyers in Iraq - played a key role in investigating a Red
Cross report which revealed that prisoners were stripped naked and locked
in pitch-black cells for days, paraded in the nude, verbally abused and d
eprived of sleep...

RAPID RESPONSE MEDIA ALERT: OR DO WE IGNORE THEM?
David Edwards, MEDIA LENS
In a world of terrible suffering and injustice, many of us cling to the
hope that journalists will have the integrity and compassion to report
honestly. Above all, this means standing up for the defenceless and crushed
against those who would rather we did not know and did not care. On
February 17, a Media Lens reader followed up an unanswered complaint he had
sent to Judy Swallow, presenter of the BBC's World Service Newshour
programme. The email contained important testimony relating to US-UK war
crimes during attacks on Fallujah...

The Atrocities of a Pale Rider
John D. Negroponte
Celerino Castillo 3rd, DrugWar.com
The above biblical quotation is the only way I can describe John Dimitri
Negroponte because of the atrocities he's previously committed around the
world (...) President G.W. Bush appointed Negroponte as ambassador to Iraq
with the "Salvador Option" in hand. The Salvador Option is a blueprint of
the Phoenix Program [a murderous assasination program that killed at least
40,000 people without trial] that was utilized in Vietnam. And know it is
being implemented in Iraq...

Bush is blinded by irrational faith
Abu Assur, Al-Moharer
Iraqis who are resisting the US invasion of their country are defending
their homes, their soil, their culture, and their natural wealth against
looters who crossed far away land and oceans to come to kill and loot like
wolves while wearing the lamb skins and talking about bringing democracy.
When some foreigners come to your place and impose their jungle law, it is
normal that honest and responsible persons would fight them and resist
their aggression. You can't possibly call these resisters terrorists,
rebels, insurgents, fanatics or diehards...

Ecstasy trials for combat stress
David Adam
American soldiers traumatised by fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan are to be
offered the drug ecstasy to help free them of flashbacks and recurring
nightmares. The US food and drug administration has given the go-ahead for
the soldiers to be included in an experiment to see if MDMA, the active
ingredient in ecstasy, can treat post-traumatic stress disorder...

Above the Law or Beyond its Reach?
Impeachment of George W. Bush for War in Iraq and Torture Policy
The Modern Tribune
"The implementation of Project for the New American Century (PNAC),
starting with invading Iraq was a flagrant, reckless, arrogant, and
dangerous violation of U.S. and international law. Although some of the
most powerful in the world put their hand to a written plan for global
domination and are openly executing it, our Congress, our democracy, sits
on the sidelines and does nothing, as thou gh they are spectators at a
sporting event. Political intimidation has frozen the processes of law and
there is no accountability for those who are above the law"...

Nation's largest newspapers play down a thousand pages of evidence of new
torture
The Raw Story
Washington Post relegates new proof of torture to page 16. The Washington
Post, apparently jaded by month after month of reports of torture of Iraq,
Afghan, and prisoners held by Americans in various other countries,
relegated a thousand pages of new torture documents to page A-16 of
Friday's paper. That story, by R. Jeffrey Smith, is excerpted here. The New
York Times also dumped the story deep into the A-section, with a meager 633
words...

US intelligence officials play the terrorism scare card, and make a damning
admission
Patrick Martin, WSWS
...He added that the Iraq insurgency has grown "in size and complexity over
the past year," and he provided figures to back up this assessment. Iraqis
opposed to the US occupation were mounting an average of 60 attacks per
day, more than double the rate a year ago. On January 30, Iraq's election
day, more than 300 attacks were carried out, despite the nationwide
shutdown of transportation and the all-out mobi lization of US troops and
Iraqi police...

'Chalabi set to become Iraq's PM'
ORLY HALPERN, Jerusalem Post
Ahmed Chalabi is likely to emerge as Iraq's leader, as originally
envisioned by the US, Dan Senor, the former spokesman for the US occupation
government in Iraq, told The Jerusalem Post on Thursday. "He has a good
chance of getting the job," said Senor. The Iraqi premiership race is now
between two seasoned 58-year-old Shi'ite politicians from within the United
Iraqi Alliance (UIA), a Shi'ite list that won the most votes in the
elections...

From Bagram to Abu Ghraib
Emily Bazelon, Mother Jones
...LAST SUMMER, a small group of American lawyers began talking about the
pattern of misconduct at Bagram and Abu Ghraib laid out in the Army's
Fay-Jones report; attorneys at the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU)
and other groups are now preparing to file lawsuits on behalf of a number
of detainees who claim to have been tortured in either Afghanistan or Iraq.
The lawyers argue that the Bush administration laid the groundwork for
abuse by claiming that thos e captured in Afghanistan were "enemy
combatants" not covered by international law. With the restrictions of the
Geneva Conventions lifted, says Priti Patel, a lawyer with the group Human
Rights First, interrogators developed harsh techniques that ultimately were
transferred to Iraq...

Behind the walls of Ward 54
Mark Benjamin, Salon.com
...The soldiers told me about their textbook symptoms of PTSD: sudden,
ferocious bouts of rage, utter detachment, anxiety attacks accompanied by
shortness of breath, and increased perspiration and rapid eye movement.
They complained of relentless insomnia, racing thoughts, self-loathing,
blackouts, hallucinations and the constant reliving of war through
flashbacks by day and nightmares at night. Some described vivid fantasies
of violence toward the Army brass in charge of patients there -- slicing
their throats, throwing them out windows or shooting them...

Journalist group calls US to account over Iraq
Dominic Timms
The US government was today accused of hiding behind a "culture of denial"
over the deaths of at least 12 journalists who are alleged to have perished
at the hands of the US military in Iraq. Re-igniting the debate that US
soldiers deliberately "targeted" journalists during the Iraqi occupation, a
press freedom body called on the US to take "responsibility" for its
actions in the country...

All Not Quiet on the Northern Front
Hilmi Toros
In bellicose tones, Turkish officials have served notice that Kirkuk, with
40 percent of Iraqi petroleum and 6 percent of the world's known oil
reserves, is a multi-ethnic city and the home of Turkomens (northern Iraqis
of Turkish stock), and as such should have a "special status". Turkey's
sharp reaction challenges claims by Kurdish leaders that Kirkuk is a
Kurdish city destined to be the capital of an autonomous Kurdish entity in
a federated Iraq - or a fully inde pendent one...

Groceries and Election Results...
Baghdad Burning, Girl Blog from Iraq...
...It's not just Sunnis- it's moderate Shia and secular people in general
who have been marginalized. The list is frightening- Da'awa, SCIRI,
Chalabi, Hussein Shahristani and a whole collection of pro-Iran political
figures and clerics. They are going to have a primary role in writing the
new constitution. There's talk of Shari'a, or Islamic law, having a very
primary role in the new constitution. The problem is, whose Shari'a?
Shari'a for m any Shia differs from that of Sunni Shari'a. And what about
all the other religions? What about Christians and Mendiyeen? Is anyone
surprised that the same people who came along with the Americans - the same
puppets who all had a go at the presidency last year - are the ones who
came out on top in the elections? Jaffari, Talbani, Barazani, Hakim,
Allawi, Chalabi… exiles, convicted criminals and war lords. Welcome to the
new Iraq...

Rumsfeld's Terror Campaign
Mike Whitney, Al-Jazeerah.info
The bombings that killed 31 people outside the Shia mosques in Iraq today
may be the handiwork of American covert operations (black-ops) under the
direction of Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld. The Iraqi resistance does
not engage in gratuitous acts of murder. These acts only serve to alienate
their base and weaken their moral authority. As reported months ago in an
Asia Times article, many of the leaders in the insurgency have studied the
works of Che G uevara who provided strong guidelines for building public
support for their cause. Insurgents must count on the sympathies of the
public to wage their guerilla war within the protective confines of the
community. Without broad public support it would be impossible for them to
conceal themselves...

Iraq: Media goes on trial over war coverage
Arab Media Watch
As the world awaits the trials of Saddam Hussein and the upper echelons of
his former regime, expected to start this spring, the media itself has gone
on trial in Rome. The charge was complicity in the build-up to the war in
Iraq and during the war itself, as journalists, media experts, legal
experts and peace activists gathered at the Roma Tre University for the
start of the three-day World Tribunal on Iraq...

Soft Pedaling Negroponte the Death Squad Facilitator
Kurt Nimmo
..."With his well-documented record in Central America, Negroponte is
certainly the right man to represent the Bush regime in Iraq," Toni Solo
wrote in May, 2004. "He is the very model of a totally Teflon torture
manager. The fact that neither Congress nor mainstream media ever grill
Negroponte seriously on his record in Honduras does much to explain the
catastrophe in Iraq. We can try and hide the truth about ourselves in the
attic like the portrait of Dorian Gray. But the ugliness and the horror
remain there all the same." And Negroponte is now the "right man" to serve
as director of national intelligence...
