LA GATTA FRETTOLOSA
I GATTINI CIECHI
IL GATTO DELLO CHESHIRE
E " IL CHI E' " DELLA RESISTENZA IRACHENA
( CON IL COROLLARIO: 19 FEBBRAIO CONTRO 19 MARZO?)
Fulvio Grimaldi, Mondocane fuorilinea

dedicata a Giuliana Sgrena, giornalista libera.)
nominate in precedenza...

News about Iraq goes through filters
By DAHR JAMAIL
How is it that more than 40 percent of Americans still believe Iraq has
weapons of mass destruction even though President Bush personally has
admitted there are none? How is it possible that millions of Americans
believe the recent election in Iraq showed that Iraqis are in favor of the
ongoing occupation of their country? In reality, the determination
displayed by the roughly 59 percent of registered voters who participated
in the election did so because they fe lt it would bring about an end to
the U.S. occupation...

Did US Military Kill Journalists in Iraq?
Danny Schechter, tervention Magazine
...It is well known that the US military was hostile to "unilateral"
reporting from Iraq and that journalists were warned, threatened,
intimidated and, yes, killed by not so "friendly fire." After two
journalists died April 8th 2003 at Baghdad's Palestine Hotel after a tank
shell was lobbed into a hotel known by the Pentagon as a media site,
Reuters called for an independent investigation. The International
Federation of Journalists ang rily demanded a real probe. Not only were
they ignored but other media companies would not even join their call. I
dissect the incident in my film WMD (Weapons of Mass Deception) with five
footage sources, interviewing a Reuters reporter who survived and believes
her non-embedded team was "targeted"...

Iraq Invasion the 'Biggest Cultural Disaster Since 1258'
Humberto Marquez
One million books, 10 million documents and 14,000 archaeological artifacts
have been lost in the US-led invasion and subsequent occupation of Iraq -
the biggest cultural disaster since the descendants of Genghis Khan
destroyed Baghdad in 1258, Venezuelan writer Fernando Baez told Inter Press
Service (IPS). "US and Polish soldiers are still stealing treasures today
and selling them across the borders with Jordan and Kuwait, where art
mercha nts pay up to $57,000 for a Sumerian tablet," said Baez, who was
interviewed during a brief visit to Caracas...

The Election In Iraq: The U.S. Propaganda System Is Still Working In High Gear
Edward S. Herman, ZNet
In our 1984 book Demonstration Elections: U.S.-Staged Elections In The
Dominican Republic, Vietnam, and El Salvador, Frank Brodhead and I stressed
that such elections were mainly designed to placate (and mislead) the home
population of the United States rather than to decide anything important in
the countries in which the election was held. In each of the earlier cases
the election did help consolidate the power of the U.S.-chosen leaders, but
its most important function was to demonstrate to the U.S. public that we
were on the right track in the occupied countries, helping them on the road
to democracy.

Reservist says, 'I won't fight for profit'
Dustin Langley
Carl Webb is very clear about what he is doing: "I'm refusing to go to war
because I do not believe the U.S. is on the right track. I think this war
is not about liberating people, it's about oppressing them. It's a war
that's being fought for profit." Webb is a 38-year-old African Amer ican
antiwar activist from Austin, Texas. He is also a fugitive with a federal
warrant out for his arrest--for refusing to participate in the war against
the people of Iraq. ..

From Baghdad to Beirut
Pepe Escobar
Blame it on Syria. Blame it on al-Qaeda. Better yet, blame it both on Syria
and al-Qaeda. Without a shred of evidence - or perhaps profiting from
"intelligence" amassed by the Pentagon, the Israeli Mossad, or both - the
Bush administration immediately blamed Syria for the bombing that killed
"Mr Beirut", former Lebanese prime minister Rafik Hariri. And Washington
recalled its ambassador to Damascus, Margaret Scobey. Taking Baghdad to
Beirut may be read for what the denomination implies: the destabilization
of Iraq - a key Washington neo-conservative objective - exported to the
wider Middle East...

Iraqi Resistance Report for events of Tuesday, 15 February 2005
Translated and/or compiled by Muhammad Abu Nasr, member editorial board The
Free Arab Voice.
....Dozens of US vehicles loaded with American troops were observed on
Tuesday morning leaving al-Fallujah, 60km west of Baghdad, heading for the
Iraqi capital. In a dispatch posted at 4:25pm Mecca time Tuesday afternoon,
the correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported from International Highway
1, said that he had witnessed more than 90 US vehicles including tanks, and
armored vehicles, being transported on giant transporters...

Sycophantic Media Abandons Professional Standards
Paul Craig Roberts
The conservative media will never recover from its role as Chief Sycophant
for the Bush administration. Journalists who demanded that Clinton be held
accountable for a minor sex scandal (Monica Lewinsky) and a minor financial
scandal (Whitewater) now serve as apologists and propagandists for the Bush
administration's major war scandals. The Republican House of
Representatives saw fit to impeach President Clinton for lying about sex.
The same Repu blicans defend to the hilt Bush's lies that launched America
into an unjustified war that has killed and maimed tens of thousands of
Iraqis and Americans, cost taxpayers hundreds of billions of dollars,
ruined America's reputation, and lost forever the hearts and minds of
Muslims...

THE LIARS' DEN!
TvNewsLIES
What a proud moment in our history, as Condoleezza Rice was sworn in as the
nation's new Secretary of State! How comforting it was to know that one
liar had just succeeded another into a post that demands the respect and
confidence of the entire international community. It's time to say it as it
is: Rice lied to us. Powell lied to us. They lied, period. And very few
people seem terribly disturbed. Their lies involved our national security
and our preparedness for and possible compli city in the events of 9/11.
Their lies cajoled an unsuspecting public into accepting an illegal,
immoral, and bloody war...

Rafik al-Hariri and the Syria Blame Game
Kurt Nimmo
..."If we look at the way the assassination has been conducted, it is very
sophisticated, I knew al-Hariri's security measures — no local system could
have breached them," Bushra al-Khalil, a Lebanese lawyer and political
activist, told Aljazeera. "The question is, who stands to benefit from his
death? Syria's enemies. I think al-Hariri's death is part of the plan to
divide the region into tiny helpless sectarian states. This plan has
started in Iraq and it will continue to hit all other Arab countries"...

Anti-Occupation Iraqis Set Terms for Political Dialogue
Samir Haddad, IOL Correspondent
...The statement also stressed elections lacked legitimacy as it was held
according to the interim administration law, boycotted by most of the Iraqi
people, and was rigged off. "The new government has no right to sign any
agreement that harms Iraq's sovereignty, territorial integrity and wealth."
The statement also urged to endorse the right of Iraqis to resist the US
occupation forces in Iraq and acknowledge the Iraqi resista nce...

Iran 'helped' US in Iraq polls
Aljazeera.net
Iran cooperated closely with the United States to win support among the
Iraqi population for elections there last month, the Iranian ambassador to
Britain has said. Ambassador Muhammad Hossein Adeli on Wednesday also said
that Tehran was ready to work again with the United States to ensure
stability in the Middle East when their interests converged. "For the
recent elections, there was not only implicit but explicit indirect and
direct cooperation between the two, Iran and the United States, in order to
keep the majority calm and in favour of the election," Adeli said (...) He
said Tehran and Washington frequently had converging interests. Their
common strategic priorities had brought them together during the 2001 US
invasion of Afghanistan...

allegations of crimes committed in Iraq, including cases relating to the
deaths of civilians. Army investigators have exhumed the bodies of
civilians who were allegedly sho dead by soldiers in the British-controlled

Iraqi troops suffer losses
Aljazeera.net

in a string of attacks that targeted oil pipelines. Security and medical
sources said on Wednesday an army colonel protecting oilfields was shot
dead near the disputed northern city of Kirkuk while he was on patrol.
Police said Colonel Ibrahim Ahmad was killed in his car in the town of
Ajil, west of Kirkuk. Two fires broke out on oil pipelines in the same

Iraqi dead is little news
ROBERT KOEHLER

A hundred thousand Iraqi dead were recently buried - on Page Five. Bear
with me. I think we need to dig them up. I'm haunted, you might say, by a
relentless optimism that if enough Americans could just notice that number,
let it gnaw at the margins of their conscience - long enough to say, "Come
again? How many? A hundred thousand?" - something would give somewhere in
the mandate George Bush claims he has to "bring freedom to the world" at a
price cruel beyond reckoning to the recipients. A hundred thousand...

wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and for other U.S. efforts overseas, pushing

Why I won't fight in Iraq
George Solomou, The Guardian
I am resigning from the Territorial Army because I believe the war in Iraq
is wrong. This has not been an easy decision. I have been in the TA for
five years - years in which I have learned a lot; won a humanitarian award
for helping save the life of a fellow soldier; made many friends; and, I
hope, contributed something to this country...
