...Negare questo diritto, negare il suo diritto all'autodeterminazione e,
per estensione, negare l'appoggio alla resistenza (sulla base del fatto che
ha dirigenti politici "sbagliati") è la stessa cosa che accettare il
diritto degli USA a restare in Iraq ed imporre lì la loro volontà. Questo è
precisamente il tallone d'Achille della sinistra statunitense oggi, avendo
p erso il suo forte proposito di opposizione all'imperialismo USA; la
maggioranza della sinistra ha fallito nel comprendere la questione centrale
in Iraq, preoccupandosi di aspetti secondari che contraddicono e negano il
punto chiave: l'imperialismo statunitense ha invaso l'Iraq per proseguire
nei suoi obiettivi imperialistici. Solo su questa base la resistenza
all'occupazione merita il nostro appoggio. Possiamo argomentare che gli
statunitensi non hanno alcun diritto a prendere decisioni sul tipo di
società che avranno - quella decisione dovrà essere presa nel loro nome.
"L'Iraq agli Iracheni": qualunque altra posizione è una capitolazione allo
sciovinismo...

... Vietnam will be repeated and triumph will be on the Iraqi side sooner
than we expect. A Mural will be erected in the Washington Mall with a
script "They Died In Vain And For Lies" and God knows how many will they
be. President Johnson said the same thing about the escalating war in
Vietnam. His rhetoric was typical on Jan.12 ,1966 : "We fight for the
principle of self-determination - that the people of South Vietnam should
be able to choose their own course, choose i t in free elections without
violence, without terror, and without fear." Later on the saga of
terrorizing the Vietnamese people was ended by defeating the US forces and
the Vietnamese were able to liberate their country, and their self
determination was realized when their country became one again. But it
seems that George W. Bush and his cronies are not learning the lesson...

since the precious Shiite fundamentalists favored by the neoconservatives
only got 48 percent of the vote. The results, of course, show the utter
futility of the elections in Iraq. In Anbar Province, turnout was 2
percent, and similar miniscule showing among Sunnis proliferated in other
provinces, too. By no stretch of the imagination can the Iraqi parliament
be considered legitimate. That won't stop the American-installed regime
from naming a Kurd as Iraq's president: Jalal Talabani, the wily,
Iran-connected veteran of decades of intrigue who will become the first
non-Arab president of an Arab country (...) the neocons are ecstatic: not
only does the new Iraq threaten Jordan, Syria and Saudi Arabia, but it will
be people by Kurds (many of whom have secret ties to Israel's Mossad),
Ahmed Chalabi (an Israeli-connected Shiite), and other doubtful Iraq's of
Iranian provenance...

"genocide" and "mass graves" in Iraq are without foundation, with news
recently in Europe that the prosecutors planning to bring Saddam to trial
will not charge him with genocide, lacking the evidence to make the charges
stick. The "mass graves" Rumsfeld speaks about, of 100,000 dead Kurds, have
never been found and the official CIA records dismiss the charge. Yet he
still reaches for the false charge when he runs out of oth er excuses for
the war on the Sunday talk shows...

Washington's Plan to foment Civil War

What a surprise! Washington's party of choice has won the election in Iraq
with a whopping 48% of the vote (...) The Bush administration has decided
to elevate the Shi'ites and crush the Sunnis. They intend to accomplish
this by turning Iraqi against Iraqi and withdrawing their own men to the
perimeters as much as possible, where they can conduct fly-overs safely
from a distance. To achieve this objective, they must incite civil war by a
clandestin e terror campaign carried out by Rumsfeld's paramilitaries. It
will require plenty of civilian carnage and a compliant media to spin a
story of frustrated insurgents gone wild. This new strategy confirms that
the Bush administration has foreclosed on the idea of maintaining Iraq's
territorial integrity. It is an admission that they cannot defeat the
insurgency and, so, they will break up Iraq into smaller and more
manageable pieces...

soldiers to post grisly pictures of Iraqi war dead. The site (

operating for more than a year, describes itself as "an online archive of
soldiers' photos". The site is still up until now. Dozens of pictures of
decapitated and limbless bodies are featured on the site with tasteless c
aptions, purportedly sent in by soldiers. The picture above shows the dead
bodies of six Iraqi men with a comment reading "damer buffet". It is indeed
a neo-dahmer buffet, bush style...

Britain Wanted A 'Sexier' Iraqi Weapons Report Claims Scientist

An Australian scientist involved in the US search for weapons of mass
destruction in Iraq today said the CIA censored his reporting so that it
suggested the weapons existed. He also accused the head of Britain's Joint
Intelligence Committee of wanting to to make the report "sexier." Rod
Barton, a microbiologist who worked for Australian intelligence for more
than 20 years, told Australian TV he quit the Iraq Survey Group (ISG) in
disgust at the c ensorship of its interim report presented to the US
Congress in March last year...

Iraq Shi'ites support a Kurd as president -Talabani

Iraq's Kurdish alliance, buoyed by its strong showing in the election, is
determined to hold the presidency of the new government, a move supported
by the Shi'ites, a Kurdish leader said on Sunday. "We are not playing a
role of siding with one bloc against another," Jalal Talabani, leader of
the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), told Reuters at his headquarters.
"But without reaching agreement there is some kind of understanding, yes.
The Sh i'ites are insisting on having the post of prime minister and they
are supporting Kurds to have the post of president"...

Recount Iraq poll, says Turkey

Turkey has urged Iraqi electoral officials and the UN to examine what it
claims are skewed Iraqi elections results. Turkish officials said on Sunday
that they were particularly concerned about vote tallies in the oil-rich
and ethnically mixed city of Kirkuk. Turkey has long complained that
Kurdish groups were illegally moving Kurds into Kirkuk, a strategic
northern city, in an effort to tip the city's population balance in their
favour...

The local correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam in Hit, west of Baghdad,
reported in a dispatch posted at 5:53pm Saturday Mecca time that an
American Cobra helicopter had blown up in the air and crashed. Eyewitnesses
reported that the helicopter had been flying at low altitude over eastern
parts of the city when it blew up in the air, scattering shredded parts of
the craft over the area. An American search and rescue team arrived on the
scene shortly thereafter...

Ex-U.S. official in Iraq says CPA was "Wild West"

to contracting there which opened up the system to abuse and waste, a
former employee from the authority said on Monday. Ex-Coalition Provisional
Authority official Franklin Willis cited examples of this "chaos" at a
hearing of the Senate Democratic Policy Committee and said he believed most
abuse and waste could have been avoided...

Former spy claims Australian government covered up Iraq prisoner abuse

was involved in interrogating Iraqi prisoners, saying he himself witnessed
and reported the alleged abuse of Iraqis by their US captors. Rod Barton, a

probably even criminal. In this war, many times those who died in the World
Trade Center have been wounded or killed. Over 1,400 American soldiers are
dead, over 10,000 soldiers are physically wounded while uncounted others

have been killed and maimed. How can the killing be justified? Are we going
to destroy a nation an d kill its people to save it? We tried that once
before. Support our troops? I am afraid for my son. I certainly worry about

position of killing, too. Most of all, I am angry that we are sending our
soldiers to a war that nobody can justify...

Further Lies and Disinformation: CBS Lawyer Factotum Attacks Churchill

...In the Denver Post article, yet another slam directed against Ward
Churchill, this fellow, Andrew Cohen, states his belief Churchill makes
things up. He says this must be true since, in Churchill's essay, there are
no footnotes or sources cited. Cohen mentions several things he believes
are fictitious, or at least suspect because they lack footnotes, but one
"astounding claim" in particular stuck in my craw: "He asserts that 500,0
00 Iraqi children died 'as a predictable—in fact, widely predicted—result
of the 1991 'surgical' bombing of their country's water purification and
sewage facilities, as well as other 'infrastructural' targets upon which
Iraq's civilian population depending for its very survival." Nothing
"astounding" here—it happens to be absolutely true and if Cohen had spent a
minute or two at Google he would have been able to verify it...
