Dalla parte di Saddam:
Ramsey Clark contro le demonizzazioni.
Fulvio Grimaldi

DALL'IRAQ ALL'AMERICA LATINA
Fulvio Grimaldi, MONDOCANE
sudamericane...

Abu-Ghraib Trial: A Means to Legitimize the Real War Crimes
Yamin Zakaria , IraqWar
...The recent media focus on the trial of Charles Garner for his role in
the Abu-Ghraib 'abuse' has also contributed towards that process of
lightening the guilt as the focus on the trial means everything else
concerning Iraq is marginalized. But more importantly the trial implies
that the only illegal actions committed by the US forces was inside those
horror chambers but everything else that has happened outside was and is
someho w legal! In fact, Abu-Ghraib and the likes are a direct consequence
of the initial and the central crime of attacking Iraq. The media
manipulations with the words employed to describe the entire episode of
Abu-Ghraib are obvious...

US official confirms Allawi shot six dead
The Sydney Morning Herald.
A former Jordanian government minister has told The New Yorker that an
American official confirmed to him that the Iraqi interim Prime Minister,
Iyad Allawi, executed six suspected insurgents at a Baghdad police station
last year. The claim is in an extensive profile of Dr Allawi written for
this week's issue of the magazine by an American journalist, Jon Lee
Anderson, the author of The Fall of Baghdad and a regular Baghdad
correspondent f or The New Yorker...

Civilization under Occupation
Ghali Hassan
In 2001,"[t]he world reacted in horror and outrage as Afghanistan's Taliban
rulers defaced and demolished ancient statues that they considered heretic.
United Nations (UN) officials jetted to Kabul to plead for a halt to the
destruction, other Islamic nations denounced the actions as barbaric, and
U.S. museums made desperate offers to buy the threatened objects", reported
US Science magazine. By contrast in Iraq, the international community has
ignored the US destructive assault on the birthplace of civilization with
barely a murmur of protest...

Odd Happenings in Fallujah
Dahr Jamail, Iraq Dispatches
"The soldiers are doing strange things in Fallujah," said one of my
contacts in Fallujah who just returned. He was in his city checking on his
home and just returned to Baghdad this evening. Speaking on condition of
anonymity he continued, "In the center of the Julan Quarter they are
removing entire homes which have been bombed, meanwhile most of the homes
that were bombed are left as they were. Why are they doing this?"...

Iraq war vets fight an enemy at home
Experts say up to 30% may need psychiatric care
Julian Guthrie, Chronicle Staff Writer
...Military officials and mental health providers predict that up to 30
percent of returning soldiers will require psychiatric services -- a number
not seen since the end of the Vietnam War. And, after several years of
double-digit increases in federal funds for veterans health care, the 2005
inflation-adjusted budget is only 1.5 percent higher than last year's...

Part One: American Military Defeat in Falluja II
Kevin Thomson, The Truth Seeker
I wrote on November 27, 2004, that there was no Falluja victory by American
military (...) At the time, I believed the battle fell back to typical
guerrilla attrition, such as hit-and-run attacks, in and around Falluja.
Now more and more evidence points to a worse situation than what I
estimated back in November. It is not unfair to describe the situation as
an American military defeat in Falluja...

Iraqis discuss voting, or not, in elections held amidst chaos
Dahr Jamail and Brian Dominick, The NewStandard
..."The elections cannot be legitimate because we are under occupation, so
I will not be voting, nor will any of my friends," said Layla Hamad, a
Shiite shop owner. "It's not a matter of elections, because those in power
will stay in power," commented Suhaid, a 23-year old Shiite who is an
unemployed computer science engineer. "This is a big lie and the elections
are illegitimate"...

How Americans Were Seduced by War
Paul Craig Roberts
Americans have been betrayed. Sooner or later Americans will realize that
they have been led to defeat in a pointless war by political leaders who
they inattentively trusted. They have been misinformed by a sycophantic
corporate media too mindful of advertising revenues to risk reporting
truths branded unpatriotic by the propagandistic slogan, "you are with us
or against us"...

Sue the Messenger
Joel Patenaude
...Instead of apologizing for these actions, the victimizers claimed
victimhood. On December 28 a half-dozen Navy SEALs and two of their wives
filed a civil lawsuit against Hettena and the AP. The SEALs seek
unspecified damages and a court injunction against further use of the
photos or identification of the commandos by the AP. The plaintiffs, none
of whom are named in the lawsuit, claim the AP invaded their privacy and
intentionally caused them emotional harm. Unmentioned is what became of the
Iraqi prisoners or the extent of the harm done to them...

From Axis of Evil to Exit Door for Weasels
Ahmed Amr, www.dissidentvoice.org
...We are now witnessing the end game. Which brings us to Iran -- a former
founding member of the axis of evil -- now elevated to a partner in
designing an exit strategy with the neocon weasels who orchestrated this
war of choice. All the exit signs point to Tehran. The Bush administration
is now resigned to the fact that the Supreme Council for the Islamic
Revolution is likely to win the elections on January 30. For the record,
the SCIRI was established in Tehran two decades ago and continues to be
financed by Iran (...) As a good will gesture -- Halliburton just signed a
deal for a giant gas field project in Iran (...) The Iranians have already
proven their ability to deliver. With the insurgency growing in strength,
Tehran has played a pivotal role in keeping the Shiites out of the fray...

One Man Has Stopped Killing: Hope for More to Do the Same
Monica Benderman, www.dissidentvoice.org
For the past two weeks, my husband Kevin and I have answered questions from
reporters, journalists, interested citizens from almost every state in the
union, and about eight foreign countries. After all of these interviews, I
have a few questions of my own. What is wrong with a country in which a man
and his wife have to jump through hoops, take psychological tests, and wait
three months for the results of an applic ation that declares he has made a
conscious choice to never go to war again?...

Approximately 300 academics have been killed
Charles Crain, USA TODAY
...Al-Rawi, a geologist at Baghdad University and head of the Association
of University Lecturers, says about 300 academics and university
administrators have been assassinated in a mysterious wave of murders since
the American occupation of Iraq began in 2003. About 2,000 others, he says,
have fled the country in fear for their lives...

Iraqi Resistance Report for events of Monday, 17 January 2005
Translated and/or compiled by Muhammad Abu Nasr, member editorial board The
Free Arab Voice.
...An Iraqi Resistance sharpshooter shot and killed two Iraqi puppet troops
serving the US occupation in al-Fallujah on Monday. Witnesses told Mafkarat
al-Islam that the US troops were killed in the 7 April neighborhood in
central al-Fallujah at 12 noon Monday. American troops then encircled
houses in the area, searching the area for an hour after the attack. U S
forces found two spent cartridges on the roof of one of the neighboring
houses. The Americans then totally destroyed that house and announced in
the city that any house from which shots come would meet the same fate and
be razed to the ground...

A Matter of Conscience
Sgt. Kevin Benderman, www.dissidentvoice.org

deployment to Iraq for the second time, I was torn between thoughts of
abandoning the soldiers that I serve with, or following my conscience which
tells me: war is the ultimate in destruction and waste of humanity...

Abu Ghraib Result of Bush / Gonzales Decision to Ignore Geneva Conventions
JENNIFER VAN BERGEN, CounterPunch
A preliminary draft of a soon-to-be published scholarly legal article
written by a former military officer who currently presides in a U.S.
federal court concludes that the Abu Ghraib prison abuses were the
reasonably foreseeable results of a decision by President Bush to ignore
the mandates of the Geneva Conventions relating to prisoners of war..."

The Banality of Evil: We are All Torturers Now
A BUZZFLASH EDITORIAL
Any senator who votes for the confirmation of Alberto Gonzales is voting to
endorse torture (...) And when Gonzales is sworn in, torture and fast track
executions will be official government policy in our nation's Department of
Justice. This is how barbaric our moral values have become under Bush. It's
this simple and horrifying: the architect of a national policy condoning
the use of torture will be our next Attorney General. It is being done in
OUR name as Americans. The Statue of Liberty must be weeping in shame and
horror. We are...

The Ideology of American Empire
Lila Rajiva, www.dissidentvoice.org
...Was the Iraq invasion part of a master plan of crusading Christianity
and Judaism? Religious language seems to drench the administration. "Rods
from God" is the name for the bundles of tungsten rods fired from orbiting
platforms that hurtle down to earth at 3,700 meters per second and destroy
even underground targets anywhere on the planet at a few minutes' notice.
David Frum, until last year a speechwriter for Bush, claims in a recent
book th at he heard a staff member say to Bush's chief speechwriter,
Michael Gerson, "Missed you at Bible study." (...) Bush also has strong
connections to apocalyptic millennialists like Tim LaHaye, one of the
authors of the Left Behind novels, who believes that a world-wide
conflagration centered in the Middle East will be the prelude to the return
of Christ...

Wealthy Iraqis seek safety abroad
Ahmed Janabi , Aljazeera.net
Iraqis are increasingly seeking safety in foreign countries for their
families and businesses in response to a security situation that has been
worsening since the March 2003 US invasion. Fear of criminal gangs that
carry out targeted killings and kidnap children and businessmen for ransom
has driven many rich Iraqis out of their home country in search of a more
peaceful life abroad.
