Arabs Passivity
Ghali Hassan
...The massive popular Iraqi Resistance against US occupation surprises
peoples everywhere, including the Arab peoples. The Iraqi Resistance have
shown the world that the racism of Western scholars and "Orientalists" was
nothing more or less than an ideological racism designed to conquer Arab
lands and resources. The heroic Iraqi resistance stands in stark contrast
to the cowardly self-styled and US-installed Arab leaders. The Arab peoples
are unlikely to remain passive, artificially! divided and undeveloped. The
façade will fall soon, and the Arab peoples will be free of despotism and
imperialism...

Religious Toleration Under Saddam? Really?
Jude Wanniski
...There was total religious tolerance under Saddam when he came to
effective power in 1974, with the one exception that religious leaders
could not play politics (...) I think you might have to face the fact that
if there were genuine presidential elections now, and Saddam was free to
throw his hat in the ring, he would swamp the likes of Allawi and Chalabi
and the Iranian sympathizers who call themselves Iraqis -- Mssrs. Talibani
and Barzani, Kurds who fo! ught against Baghdad in the war...

TERRORE, ELEZIONI E DEMOCRAZIA: L' ALTERNATIVA DEL SALVADOR
JOE DeRAYMOND, Comedonchisciotte.net
...L'occupazione in Iraq sta usando terrore, torture e violenza contro la
popolazione civile, proprio come gli squadroni della morte fanno in El
Salvador ( come testimonia l' assassinio del sindacalista Gilberto Soto lo
scorso 5 Novembre 2004 ). Adesso, come specificato all'articolo del Wall
chiamarla Democrazia...

Iraqi Resistance Report for events of Friday, 14 january 2005
Translated and/or compiled by Muhammad Abu Nasr, member editorial board The
Free Arab Voice.
...After American technology and the US arsenal failed to defeat the Iraqi
Resistance, American imperial military leaders are now seeking more help
from their Zionist colleagues. The Palestine Information Center reports
that Anthony Tether, Director of the Defense Advanced Research Projects
Agency (DARPA), paid a secret visit to occupied Palestine where he held!
talks with "Israeli" officials concerning the testing out of Zionist
technological programs and the development of Zionist technology in ways
that might help out the US military occupation in Iraq...

Report: US forces damaged Babylon
Aljazeera.net
US-led forces have caused substantial damage to archaeological treasures by
using the ancient Iraqi city of Babylon as a military base, a British
Museum report says. The document, quoted in Saturday's The Guardian
newspaper, said US and Polish military vehicles had crushed 2600-year-old
pavements in the city, a cradle of civilisation and home to one of the
seven wonders of the ancient world...

Bush's Grand Plan: Incite Civil War
Mike Whitney, ZNet
The Bush Administration is intentionally steering Iraq towards civil war.
The elections are merely the catalyst for igniting, what could be, a
massive social upheaval. This explains the bizarre insistence on voting
when security is nearly nonexistent and where a mere 7% of the people can
even identify the candidates. (This figure gleaned from Allawi's Baghdad
newspaper, Al-Sabah) Rumsfeld is using the elections as a springboard for
aggravating tensions betwee! n Sunnis and Shiites and for diverting
attention away from the troops...

AIDing and abetting death in Falluja
William Bowles
...The issue however, is not dependent solely on numbers but on their
significance as an indicator of the value we assign to them. By this we can
assume that the underlying logic is that those who have been murdered in
Iraq are somehow guilty or complicit in their own deaths, and hence not
worthy of our compassion, how else does one explain the disparity between
the media's treatment of the two? So a death is not really a death until
blessed by the media. Terry ! Jones asked the question why the media
ignores the plight of the Iraqi people to which I can only answer, because
the media and state are in collusion...

BuzzFlash Got 15 of the Reasons Bush Invaded Iraq Right, But One Wrong
A BUZZFLASH EDITORIAL
Yes, sometimes we do get it wrong, but our March 17, 2003, editorial got 15
of the reasons Bush went to war with Iraq right. Actually, it's a few more
than 15, but they aren't all numbered. But what was the one point we got
wrong? Well, we ended the editorial with this paragraph: In a
just-published book about Karl Rove, "Bush's Brain," a Democratic political
consultant is quoted as saying about the Bush Cartel: "The! y just picked a
war they could win....It has to be the most evil political calculation in
American history." Obviously we were wrong about the evil cabal in the
White House picking a war they could win...

Is There Another 'Tet' in Our Future?
Michael Gaddy, Axis of Logic
...The most serious handicap is the same as what kept our military from
being prepared for the Tet Offensive of 1968: the inability to analyze
intelligence that is contrary to the lies of leadership. In late 1967 there
was a plethora of intelligence that indicated a major military undertaking
was in the works in South Vietnam, both by the Viet Cong and the NVA (...)
Any intelligence that revealed this buildup was discounted, because it went
again! st the propaganda that was emanating from the Pentagon: the enemy
was not strong enough to attempt such a move. I can assure you the same is
true today...

and then he points to the nearby road, "They destroyed our fences, and now
there are wolves attacking our animals, they destroyed much of our farming
equipment, and the worst is they cut our electricity"...

Ritter Right About Iraq
Randy Scholfield
...I'd like to nominate someone who really deserves the Presidential Medal
of Freedom: Scott Ritter. Remember Ritter? In a column in 2002, I wrote
about the square-jawed former U.S. Marine and United Nations weapons
inspector, who was in Wichita several months before the invasion of Iraq,
giving a talk -- no, a plea -- about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.
He was adamant: Saddam Hussein had no WMDs...

Iraqis Despair at Struggle of Their Daily Lives
Khaled Yacoub Oweis , Reuters
...Faced with constant violence and with everyday life turning into a
struggle, many Iraqis who can afford to leave have done so, to countries
such as Jordan and Lebanon. People with less money have fled to Syria,
which is less picky about the financial position of Iraqis it lets in.
Villa after villa in the affluent neighborhoods of Mansour and Arasat are
empty, their windows shuttered, their once pretty gardens overgrown with
weeds...!

Phones down, borders sealed, troops on the streets: it's time for democracy
Richard Beeston, Times Online
THE plan sounds more like the preparations for war than the holding of
Iraq's first democratic elections. But such is the dire state of Iraqi
security today that the authorities in Baghdad are considering a complete
lockdown of the country ahead of polls in two weeks' time. According to
Iraqi and Western sources, international borders will be sealed, movement
between cities tightly controlled, mobile phone ne! tworks switched off and
hundreds of thousands of Iraqi security forces and foreign troops deployed
in a show of force not seen since the height of the war nearly two years
ago...

From Afghanistan to Iraq: Transplanting CIA Engineered Terrorism
Kurt Nimmo
...In response, understanding the tolerance of the American public is
wearing thin, the Strausscons are in the process of accelerating their
agenda, calling for attacks against Syria, where we are told Ba'athist
dead-enders hang out and plot doom and destruction with the solicitous
consent of the Syrian government, and also against Iran, a nation we are
consistently told harbors the desire to construct nukes and use them
against us, or Is! rael anyway (for the Strausscons, there is little
difference between America and Israel)...

Growing anxiety in US ruling circles over Iraq debacle
Patrick Martin, WSWS
Voicing the growing concern within the US ruling elite that the Bush
administration's policies in Iraq are leading to disaster, the New York
Times published a lengthy editorial Wednesday calling for the postponement
of the January 30 elections in order to prevent the political collapse of
the occupied country(...) This editorial is only the most prominent in what
has become a groundswell of commentaries and warnings from within the
Americ! an political and media establishment about the danger that the US
occupation regime in Iraq could disintegrate into uncontrollable violence
in a matter of weeks...

Powell gives bleak assessment of Iraq security problems
Guy Dinmore, Financial Times
Colin Powell, outgoing secretary of state, says he would like to see US
troops leave Iraq "as quickly as possible" but that the strength of the
insurgency does not allow the Bush administration to set a timeframe for a
withdrawal this year(...)According to Chas Freeman, former US ambassador to
Saudi Arabia and head of the independent Middle East Policy Council, Mr
Bush recently asked Mr Powell for his view on the progress of the ! war.
"We're losing," Mr Powell was quoted as saying. Mr Freeman said Mr Bush
then asked the secretary of state to leave...
